Kevin's Notes:
I always forget that Fire Emblem really is a series that carved my love of Video Games. When I got this game for Christmas, I played it to completion, and it was right at the age when I started "Beating" games, especially longer ones.
It lead to me using GameFAQs to figure out how to get the Gaiden chapters, what other units were out there, and everything about the game really is close to me. The fact that I care for the story in it, really speaks something.
If there's things I would've added to this. More stuff about how each playthrough can be different. But to avoid spoilers and save from hyper-specific examples, I felt I brushed over it to some capacity.
I'll likely be playing through each game again and make videos on each. This series really is special, and I think it would be better if the channel just went through series at a time, rather than jumping around.
Well this was fun to write! If you read this, thank you! You must be a pretty good fan/friend for actually bothering about my thoughts on how I make these things.
Also, Hector for Smash Ultimate!
#FireEmblem #FireEmblemGBA #RekkaNoKen
I think Fire Emblem is the best Fire Emblem tbh, at least it's better than Fire Emblem.
Mangs How dare you! An egghead like you can't possibly understand why Fire Emblem is better than both Fire Emblem AND Fire Emblem, smh.
Also hi Mangs.
At least you still hate fire emblem
Nah bruh. You just like it for the Bartre meme x)
10:04 at least it's better than Louise
You guys are all forgetting the best game in the series, Fire emblem, it trumps Fire Emblem, Fire Emblem, and Fire Emblem.
GBA animations are the best imo
good man
You're right
FE10 best 3d animations imo... Maybe.
The crits were sexy asf
to me it's the snes animations...especially the crit ones
why FE7 is the best:
1. It has Best Boy Lucius in it
2. what you said too
preach
I unironically agree. C rank staves on promotion made me love this game and Lucius so much
I don't even use staves that much, Lucius destroys everything.
Lucius is best boy. But it's still his fault I had to restart the game two times. He wrecked everything, and stole all the exp. And all my other units were too weak, because of him. But I still love him, he's precious. And he's the only bishop that matters. Because, if you're a monk and your name is not Lucius, you're fucked.
Mage: Hey Lucius! Anima beats Light magic!
_1 damage_
Lucius: ...allow me to reeducate you on the magic triangle.
Holy shit another person who loves Matthew
SimplySam in my second play through, I found out he is the best endgame character in the game... holly shit Ohko ing the final boss is no joke lol
Matthew's Awesome, But Jaffar Is Just, Better
Matthew sucks. Jaffar OP
errybody loves Matthew
He died in my game Xd
If they ever make another game with 2d animations, I'd like each character to look more unique, instead of a different palate, or in some cases, just a different hair colour.
FE6 was the first to have support conversations. FE3 had invisible bond supports.
I think that might be a bit too much work if everyone had something completely special.
I think hair style and clothing maybe?
But anything else is probably too much, like they'll probably reuse the same basic model for most of them for example.
@@mauvedragontiddies9244
I'd be fine with animations being the same, just the look. Echoes did a good job of that imo. (At least when the characters are in their starting classes.)
So basically along the lines of Guy and Legault having their unique animations then?
@@mauvedragontiddies9244
More like Echoes.
Like how Saber, Kamui and Jesse have different clothing even though they are of the same class.
Engage seems to be moving away from what Awakening started, and seems to be inching back to GBA style of crit animations, very slightly so.
What annoys me is how they did pegasus knights. From GBA titles to the Wii game - which I only seen screenshots of - the knights sat behind the wings and had their legs under the wings. But come Awakening to Engage, every rider of a flying unit sits in front - maybe on the shoulder where the wings meet - and have their legs in front of wings. Not a secure riding position. Unless the mount is like a giant bat or a pteranodon, there’s no reason for the rider to sit on shoulders and legs in front of the wings.
Dorcas gets a point of speed at a level up

I put so much into Dedue, then he fuckin died. I lost my tank!
Also...I like Dorcas
@@NearLife4lifededue wishes he could be Dorcas
I want a remake that combines Fe 6 and 7. Awesome video man!
I think half the people want that, while the other half is afraid that they'll mess it up.
But yeah, having it be a bit like Genealogy of the Holy War would be awesome, except that they don't continue the same conflict.
But it's cool nonetheless, and it would allow them to make decisions made in FE 7 or casualities you faced carry over.
Since many people don't like FE 6's huge cast, they could actually turn some characters into substitutes.
Like say Dart survived FE 7's story, he would appear as berserker in a later chapter and Garret doesn't appear.
Or maybe keeping certain characters alive would make specific relations canon, while they're made non-canon if they don't survive.
For example (since many people actually want that) if Dorcas survives, Dorothy would be Dorcas and Natalie's daughter, but if he doesn't she's just a normal girl and her story gets altered just a bit.
I would just looove stuff like that.
And maybe they can just throw other characters from the previous game in there too that don't replace anyone.
Like Sain and Kent, even if it's just in a cutscene.
Could also out Lyn in the story, even if it's just her ... well ... dying along with the other Sacaens, would at least be closure.
Not to mention that say Wolt's stats could be different depending on the father.
Like more strength if it's Sain, or more defense if it's Lowen.
Oof, sorry for the long comment.
Should probably just post it in general instead of it being a response to you, but it did fit.
@@mauvedragontiddies9244
Great ideas you gave there. I would give the option to play FE6 without FE7 alterations if you wanted. Like if you played FE10 without transferring from FE9.
Der Slendy That. Sounds. AMAZING! 8D
Fire Emblem Echoes - the Elibe edition. Take my money now please.
Would also love to see a remake of FE4 with FE5 as episodic DLC. (The two wouldn't necessarily fit together as a cohesive game like FE6 and 7 would.
Huh. I didn't expect a thoughtful video having been linked this. There's a lot of heart here.
You have yourself another subscriber.
I like how Path of Radiance handles support conversations the best. They're story relevant, like in this game, but you don't have to do them in battle.
This. So much this.
Started playing this on a gba emulator on my old PSP and as someone new to anything like this kind of game I’m really enjoying it! Love the music, the noble hearted characters and story, and animations/visuals, and it’s actually got decent gameplay too... I want more like this!
I want a FE 7 remake so badly especially considering that Echoes was an excellent remake.
Imagine an FE6/7 remake where you marry parents in 7 and then growths get passed down to kids(Like Genealogy). It would be super long, but I think that would be amazing. Of course, not all characters have parents in 7, so it would have to be balanced. This would be an amazing game though
Bigevilshark no it wouldn’t
Echoes was fantastic
Why Fire Emblem is the best of the series?
Well, Hector.
Hector should have been smash bros fighter using both lances and axes in his attacks
@@smashikeryu1881
Huh?
Hector uses lances?
But yeah, Hector would be a great addition to the smash roster. A better choice than Lucina or Chrom.
Yeah I know, Lucina and Chrom are just Echofighters, but they taking places in the roster.
But if we talk about a lancewielding Fire Emblem Character, how about Ephraim from Sacred Stones? :)
@@AaronCalibur perhaps both Ephraim and hector should be in . Now that would make the Fire emblem roster better :)
Hector and Lyndis were my favorite characters of this game
My Favorite Lord & Character In The Franchise, No Question
I honestly prefer Sacred Stones, but FE7 will always be my second favorite for introducing me to the series and for its gameplay
everyone knows advance wars 4 was the best fire emblem game
Advance Wars 4 doesn't exist. There are only 1, BHR and DS. Because AW without Andy, Nell, Olaf and Kanbei ain't AW
Eliwood is my favorite Lord in the series. I really wish they’d remaster this game, Echoes was the proof I needed that they could do it right.
Nah man Roy’s our boi
@@voltron77 Go back to Smash bros.
@@macdhomhnaill7721 ?
Honestly, having some sort of true ending is something they need to bring back.
Although that should be more along the lines of FE 6 and not FE 7, because FE 7 just locked away the villains backstory for the "true" ending, which is a really dick move.
It's nice solving puzzles, but villains drive the plot, so the main villain coming off as some cartoonish Disney villain without it ... was a bad decision, it really was.
Renault on the other hand ... I loved that.
Night of Farewells was the bane of my existence...I was not prepared for that level at all
Always remember, Eliwood is EliGOOD
This is my first gba game
And it's fun
I played this game in summer holidays
i was playing awakening earlier today and when i saw the ship you could fight on in chapter 12, i got the STRANGEST sense of deja vu. well bam, 8:38, not deja vu!
but seriously, your video touches on EVERYTHING i love about fire emblem, particularly the 'just play the game' bit, without overwhelming the player with a ton of options. i got so nostalgic watching this! i want to play it again!!!!! thank you for this video, 10/10
So glad I discovered your channel!
Not quite sure how I feel about this, must say that I wasn't a fan of archers in fe7 due to them nerfing effective weapons to do 2X damage instead of 3x
as well as maps like the night of farewells and the chapter Nino joins being rng heavy.
Also thieves when promoting into assasins not having the ability to steal is annoying.
Branch promotion from fe 8 I feel helped though Fe 8 suffers from its easy gameplay.
Lastly, supports take way to long to grow naturally, unless you take 25+ turns of just turn skipping.
Before playing FE 7, I always wondered why everyone loved it. Was it just nostalgia, because it was the first one in the West? But after beating it a few times, I realize it's because it's such a tightly designed experience. It's probably my favorite in the series now, despite never growing up with it (I never expected it to overtake Sacred Stones for me). It's just such a classic, with a slew of memorable characters, bouncy music, and fun scenarios the whole way through.
Did you use the clip of Heath dying like ... 4 times or something? lol
I didn't have many deaths to use as examples :P
But yeah I used it too much ^^;
Good unit.
Lol Heath is a bad unit
KoibyTheBigOofMaker Not if you train him. That 7 speed base is misleading but he can very easily reach a very high level of speed.
And imo he is the most fun unit to train up ever. I always like to kill the boss of the chapter he joins in, because he has a Spear, which really helps Heath. Only weighs him down by one and is the most powerful 1-2 range lance.
FE7 is amazing and it is among my favourites in the series. Its super nostalgic for me since it introduced me to Fire Emblem. I loved FE6 as well.
You submit really great content, keep it up! :)
Really enjoyed the video.
Dorcas getting +1 spd is a very good level up...
Matthew is your boy? I see you're a man of culture
I dont know why it got me so hard but that quick focus on "Who are you?" was hilarious. It really just kind of sums up a lot of character recruits, doesnt it?
I love this game , my first Fire emblem ( i still have the cartridge) and is my favorite. The music and characters are great (love lyn) and is more challenging than sacred stones .
Same here still have the cart but my ds died long ago
Great video as always, made me want to download this Fire Emblem in my Wii U, also, it is just me or the sprites remind anyone else of the Dungeons & Dragons Capcom Arcade games?
I loved the production quality of this video! It's been great to see your channel mature over the years.
Fantastic video. I’m definitely going to sub
10:05 "Bad level-ups" Excuse me?
It's Dorcas not getting str or skill, what would you call it?
I'd call it perfection, because Dorcas getting speed isn't something you see too often.
@@mauvedragontiddies9244 But how often does it happen? At the end of the day if it only happens once or twice, how useful was it? Dorcas getting only speed is like a Barte (FE6) getting res, sure it's cool and rare but it's too rare to be useful, and if that is the only stat that gets upped in a game with limited LVs, it was a wasted LV long term
Sure, Dorcas' speed is beyond salvageable, but him getting one point of speed just flat out improves his performance more than a point of strength and skill would, there's no denying that.
But the kinds of units that can out speed him do so by more than 2/3 points, and if a nomad or myrmyr doesn't have more than 5 speed on him: What is wrong with them?, what is your Dorcas on? and where can I get some?
Getting str or skill is the same as a mage getting magic or a theif getting speed, even one is always helpful and helps his overall performance
I waited finish the game for watch this video. You are completly rigth, this fire emblem have all elements of future games. Thank for tour work
I remember reading about Fire Emblem in Nintendo Power when it was featured in the Epic Center and really wanting to play the series. When Blazing Sword finally hit stateside I got it. I felt a sense of accomplishment when I finished it and it is still the one I go back to the most and would take it to a desert island
Fe6 has a really good and not boring story and you don’t need to beat it 7 times and every character is interesting and I will never forget them
This games is one I hold very close to my heart I remember playing this game with friends at school and family at home I had so much fun with this also it was my only video game for awhile when I lost all of my gba games for like a year except for both my fire emblem games I still have my original copy even thank you for making me realize how much I too love Fire Emblem
Been playing Advance Wars on my laptopimean GBA, so was interested to know about this game. Thanks for an instructive vid 😊
I loved this game so much. Gameplay and story and characters and worldbuilding all blended together so well. The game's length, optional grinds, customization, all so great. The big "plot twist" moment is still one of the most memorable I've seen. It left a lasting impression on me because it wasn't spoiled unlike other big moments like Vader and the Red Wedding. I would still recommend it today if you've never played it. The only thing imo that hasn't really held up is the difficulty, it's pretty easy if you've been playing games for the last 20+ years.
I agree, I have "Fire Emblem", "Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones", "Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon", "Fire Emblem: Awakening" & "Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia" and there is just something about how cool it looks in that 16-bit context. I guess since the SNES is my favorite console, I can see why.
First time I saw Lynn crit I was hooked. And I was terrible at the game as a child because I would skip the dialogue and didn't really know what I was doing. I'd play it for HOURS!
I’m glad you drew the connection to d&d because it most certainly is there.
Dude, your his mic is so good that you can actually hear his saliva.
I can't unhear it now
We must always protect Matthew! My first run through, he somehow maxed Strength and I really truly thought he was just completely busted.
Gonna buy the original Fire Emblem for Game Boy Advance soon. Will be my first Fire Emblem
You should!
Is 2 October 2022 I'm written this message, and I never in my life played Fire emble, until 5days ago and Im loving so much, In fact I ramdomly select this Fire Emblem - the blazing blade, just ramdomly and glad to know is one of the best or the best Fire Emblem game
so far im loving so much, playing it on android gba myboy emulator♥
I just started FE yesterday. I’m very late to the party on this one. I’ve been interested to play the Switch game, but I wanted to try the og fire emblem. I downloaded it onto my Wii U.
FE7 is my favorite too, but strictly on the merit of its characters. I actually *hate* all the restrictive, old-school elements you praised (because I am a filthy, dirty casual).
That said, the humor and editing in this were top-notch. 10/10
i agree.. this game takes me back to my childhood. Wish they would remake this. Cant wait for Three houses to release on switch.
You know when I first played this game 3 years ago I was really underwhelmed for some reason but I decided to replay it to give it another chance and to get hyped for Three Houses (since the marketing wasn’t doing it) and I have no idea what I was thinking three years ago, this game rules. Lyn and Hector two of the best characters in the series but Eliwood (who I used to find dull) was like the perfect straight man to this very entertaining trio of a main cast, they play off each other perfectly. The story was really engrossing, it was very well told and the characters really elevated it.
The dialogue in this game is excellent “your soul is black and devoid of warmth” stuck out. The emotional scenes (primarily the deaths) were really powerful and the villains have way more depth than I remembered (Jaffar is a great character and Nino’s arc was with Sonia was really interesting) or they’re just fun to hate. Each character had a really interesting personality though I would say the support system in the game kinda blows and I wish I got to see more conversations but initial impressions always worked in making them memorable.
The maps were great, like really great. I’m pretty forgiving of weak map design (I love Echoes) but I always appreciate a game that feels like an excellent 2D platformer where every level/map had tons of thought put into it. The music was really good (though some songs can get repetitive) the battle and talking sprites were excellent (Sad Eliwood always gets me) having side quests was really cool and I felt satisfied whenever I accidentally discovered one.
My only complaints really are the support system and also the lack of anything else to do... I wanted to spend more time with the characters I got attached to but the game has no post game.
ooooh jeez...I seen that myrmadon crit attack. A tear dropped from my eye and a flash back to my childhood hit like that food critic on ratatouille. Thank you sir, currently playing 3 houses now. Its good, i love it, but nothing beats the classics.
So I think that lord of the rings the third age for gba is not just one of the most underrated handheld games of all time, but one of the most underrated games of all time. I’ve always been interested in fire emblem but never actually had an idea of what it was. Wow have I been missing out. This looks like it would blow tta out of the water
Downloading rom as I type
There is a reason I keep coming back to FE7 and dropped the 3DS titles. Especially Fates. I found it incredibly boring and the gameplay isn't that special. I never got bored with FE7 and yeah sure some chapters are actual hell (URSULA AND SONYA'S CHAPTERS CAN GO AND DIE) and the story was really interesting, the gameplay is hella fun and not to mention the multiple endings thing. It's so good I go back to play it over and over.
Blazing Blade when it was localized as just Fire Emblem was my first Fire Emblem game on its release, Sacred Stones my second, Awakening my third, tried Fates...didn’t care much for it, my true fourth being Echoes Shadows of Valentia, tried Three Houses...again didn’t care much for it despite the hype and marketing, and Engage became my true fifth. Didn’t know about the others despite having the system for them.
All that said, Lyn from Blazing Blade is my all time favorite out of all the Fire Emblem games I played. Too bad she and the tactician couldn’t support. My head canon is that she and the tactician ended up together on the plains, rebuilding her tribe with her as the proper chieftain of her people.
Fire Emblem has the most charm out of them all.
The Binding Blade/FE6 seems to be the game in the series with the most different opinions on it. Some people think it's the best GBA FE while others think it's on the lower end of all the FE games. Hopefully one day it get's an Echoes remake so I can finally play it myself lol
I only have Fire Emblem Scared Stones. Definitely about to order this Fire Emblem game. More games like these should be made IMO
Very nice video. I enjoyed it and overall agree with your thoughts, even though I personally think Radiant Dawn has the best models and attack animations in the entire series. GBA Fire Emblem and FE7 in paticular is thoroughly enjoyble, with great models and animations. However a lot of Radiant Dawn's models are HIGHLY similiar to FE7 counterparts, just look at the Marshall class and compare it with FE7's General. It's practically a perfect match. And the attacks, oh the attacks. I think Radiant Dawn is the one 3d Fire Emblem game to date that maintains the same or at least a very similar power and punch of GBA, while the 3ds titles are.........lacking.........something.
I think I'll purchase a copy , at a high price $70
I'd be interested to see your take on the Tellius games, since they're such a mixed bag of good classic elements and questionable new choices, and a few cool new things.
Followed. I only have a gba sim with fire emblem so I'd like to play it soon. For now, i shall continue playing Awakening. 😁
Can't wait to see your next video:
Why Final Fantasy II is better than Final Fantasy II.
Yeah i have replayed this game so many fkin times
I remember when dorcas spd stat raise by 1 happened to me
I was like THATS IT!?
I like how every point you brought up could also be applied to fe6 although that game actually has good gaiden chapters
Give me the happy medium! I don't need to have kids just want optional grinding, good supports, challenging chapters and for it to look modern/badass!
Nice video. I started FE with the 3DS games so I can't say I have much in the way of nostalgia goggles for FE7, but it's still my second favourite in the series anyway. I love the cast, the story's good and the soundtrack is pretty baller.
Also, agreed on all the FE6 chat. That's the one FE game I've never gone back to
Honestly you're wrong, Fire Emblem is the best Fire Emblem. Not Fire Emblem. Fire Emblem pales in comparison to the gem that is Fire Emblem. Smh stop spreading misinformation
Fell in love with Lyn at first glance
I loved the game, I had completed the support gallery but the tellius games with ike were even better for me.
I’ll be real I always shut off animation except for Cynthia from Awakening because she’s bae
Completely agreed on the wonderful 2D sprite graphics in this game. FE games have never looked better than the GBA games. Those sprite animations were so stylish and well done, the low-poly 3D graphics that followed still suffer by comparison IMO. I get why Nintendo would choose to move to 3D, but it definitely came at a cost. The new FE they're making for the Switch is beautiful looking, hopefully it winds up being a good game.
All you sed is right thanks
My first fire emblem. I though it's the first of series too because the name is just fire emblem
Was my favorite fire emblem.i wish they would port to switch as my ds broke years ago
I haven't even watched the video but subbed to be your 10,000th sub
oh wow, DonDon somewhere OTHER than Mekkah's, never expected to see that happen.
Dar, dar dar dar, dar, darrr, dar dar dar _or_ 'together we ride (dat ass)' is still the most iconic and my oedipal favorite from the hole serious, if not the whole series
As someone who only played the 3DS Emblems I fell in love with FE7 the first time I played it. The game has superior characters, setting and story which are some of the most important things for an engaging FE game. Though one thing I found better with the 3DS Emblems are in general more replayable as I've only played FE7 6 times while with Birthright alone I've played it 8 times (I only had Awakening back then, don't judge me)
I have a dream of buying a GBA Sp and playing this game how it was meant to be played. One day...
He clips through the backround at the end.
Rath (with boots/longbow) is so op
As much as how visually stunning the other fire emblem games are after the gba trilogy they can never give the same thrill when getting a Crit in the gba trilogy and see those amazing animations
Back when Fire Emblem was released, the series wasn't popular at all (at least outside of Japan), now imagine if they release a game of this quality, with the franchise's current fame...
Im totally agree. The other Games just doesnt do it for me but I always come back to the 3 GBA Games
Well done video! I kept trying to think of games that cover as much ground and are as well rounded as FE7 does but nope. You discussed the 3DS games and Binding Blade, but I'm feeling like expressing my thoughts on the series today so here goes.
Sacred Stones is amazing with branching classes and multiple routes, but its short story, easy difficulty, and no true gaiden maps holds it back.
Path of Radiance has a great story and cast, but its ugl and animations are eh.
Radiant Dawn has great animations IMO, but its utter lack of supports and awkward character availability kills parts of it.
The DS remakes, particularly New Mystery, have strong gameplay but meh presentation and ugly battle sprites dont do it for me personally
And the NES and SNES games, while I'm a big fan of most, are full of differing problems, with them all sharing the issue of lack of true support conversations.
Yeah FE7 is pretty damn amazing. My only true annoyance with it is Lyn Mode being required honestly.
IMO, you should checkout Thracia 776 if you havn't already; a lot of FE7 is inspired by that game I find (the smaller scale story, the final chapter map, and the arena music) and it's an underrated gem. Only complaints are no supports of course, some undeveloped units, and some less than favorable RNG mechanics. (Maybe a video on what makes it Unique? ;) )
Wait, I just realized.
If there was to be an FE6+7 remake...it'd probably be on Switch.
ELIGOOD IN HD WHEN, IS?!
Seems like a lot games loose there charm going from sprite to 3D models
FE sacred stone was my first game to play on DS Lite but this title was the most memorable of all that i played (path of radiance, awakening, birthright, echoes)
Fire Emblem is definitively one of the Fire Emblem games of all time
P.s: Fire Emblem is also really good too
i emulate FE 7 on my Android, i have save states to do perfect
I loved playing through those great gba fire emblem games. Any recommendations on other fire emblem games I should pick up? I’ve played path of radiance on GameCube and did like that one.
Three Houses on switch is fantastic and i’ve heard great things about Awakening on 3DS
Radiant Dawn since its the sequel to Path of Radiance.
Me after reading the video title: keep talking dirty to me
Sacred stones was also solid 👌👌
*cough*
path of radiance
*cough*
No seriously though, I really enjoyed this video and I'm glad too see Fire Emblem (GBA) getting some proper love that it deserves!
Royboy Path of Radiance has Maniac Mode, and if you don’t know how it is, watch a playthrough.
Also, Hector kicks 20 forms of ass.
Genealogy is pretty good as well in terms of story
Fire Emblem is the best Fire Emblem because this Fire Emblem is called Fire Emblem.
After finishing Aria of Sorrow I realize I've slept on too many GBA gems. I'll do this one next!
In fe8 there's two arenas but if you play the wii u version it gives you save states so break the game is what I did before tower of valni
