John Powell made some of the most gorgeous OSTs I’ve ever listened to in my life. One of my personal favorites from the first httyd film is “Dragon Training.” If you’re listening to more OSTs I have to recommend “Eda’s Requiem” from the Owl House by Brad Breeck (he posts much of his work on his CZcams, if you do listen to his Eda’s Requiem music suite you want to start listening at 13:34), or if you’re still in the John Powell mood, “Po Finds The Truth” by Powell and Hans Zimmer is gorgeous and has so many great moments

I am OBSESSED with How To Train Your Dragon. It all started on October 16, 2010. My parents rented How To Train Your Dragon from BlockBuster, and I had no input on their DVD selection. We started the movie and it was okay at the start, the trailers didn't sell it for me...but then we got to the Forbidden Friendship scene. By the end of that scene, I was SOLD!!! I think it was a mix of John Powell's score and the animation and the feelings Hiccup and Toothless were feeling during that scene, but it's such a good franchise, and it's the best franchise, in my opinion! If you haven't watched the movies (How To Train Your Dragon, How To Train Your Dragon 2, and How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World) yet, I guarantee you'll enjoy them! :)

I've loved these movies ever since I saw the first one when I was a kid and by god the music is such a huge part of that. Like, when I'm watching stuff or playing something the music actually demanding as much attention as the visuals is a rare thing, but this is one of those times. If you're interested, I would also say Where No One Goes from the second movie is very much worth a listen.

This movie is literally my favorite movie in the entire world and this song nearly brings me to tears of joy every time I listen to it. I adore the soundtrack, and would also highly recommend listening to Romantic Flight and/or Forbidden Friendship. The movie is a must see. :)

I would love to watch you react to the movie. I memorized the soundtrack, unintentionally, when I was in college. I was also a clarinet in college, so this track really got me motivated. The scenes are beautifully choreographed to the music. I get goosebumps every time I watch the test drive.

I love your analysis of this track, I’ve always adored the franchise so it’s great to see you cover it.
And as for your question on the inspiration behind it, the composer John Powell said a few times that it’s mainly inspired by a mix of Celtic beats with orchestral performance to give it that sense of significance and percussionist impact while also tailoring it to the setting and heritage of vikings. You can hear this in most tracks, but Powell deliberately kept the Celtic resemblance out of certain specific tracks, such as Romantic Flight, to make them stand out amongst the others as they often represent the most significant scenes in the films or shows.
