They come up with the idea to sabotage the auditions to get the roles for themselves - in the end female actors get casted and Simon looses his job in this project too, because "he just can't write women". Lockdown is lifted and the heros meet in Cardiff, where David is expected on a filmset [THAT got resheduled several times from South Africa to Italy and then Wales because the abilities to travel freely, were still restricted] --- both seasons were "staged" - there was no play and no American filming project! 😶🌫Interim - the plague charity by Shakespeare & Marlowe (actors "in costume") AND the x-mas special of proposing a 3rd season of the main show... finally: 3rd season - two "normal episodes" of David stuck in Japan due to a volcanic eruption and not able to organize the birthday-party for his wife (probably even missing it?) the rest of the season ending in chaos because Simon is on strike after all the abuse and Gorgia has her own project of a "making of" documentary that gets filmed instead. All staged of course! The Big Finale is a "nation wide live TV show" of a version of Charles Dickens' - but the scripts that get handed to the actors are totally blank and they are forced to improvise - a bit of time-travel comes up and David has no idea, that his plans would create a paradoxon (him playing a Time Lord - sometimes) and it takes Michael's daughter Lily as a SF fan-girl, to point out that danger!

Given that all of those 'sets' are in David and Georgia's house - that's a WHOLE lot of boobies on the walls, especially with a passel of children running around. I mean, I'm not against it, or even being prudish, exactly.....I just....did not expect that.
That makes it sound like you're not terribly familiar with ANY of their other work besides Good Omens. Which would be a travesty. Go and watch ANYthing else they've done. And then go watch some more. And make sure that Staged is a part of that. These looney tunes are so amazing that it doesn't matter WHAT they're doing - you believe it - and yet you don't lose the other beloved characters they've done, you can always see something of everyone if you squint hard enough.
