I'm really don't know why he said this, because it is simply not true! Alexander von Humboldt never claimed the invention of Guano for him self, in fact he described the use of it as much older than the Spanish "discovery" of America. I'm very upset about this part of the video, it shows people, that don't know much about von Humboldt, a wrong picture of one of the greatest explorers and naturalists of all times. Unlike many other scientists of his time he had a lot of respect for native cultures.

2: Every country commits war crimes in war, it's not a US specific problem, people act bad ( Not excusing them, but it's true).
3: America has an obesity problem, yes, but it's not so bad that "every woman is fat", most are fine.
4: Completely anecdotal, again, can't judge a nation by what some people have said to you.

I watched this a while ago and I was taking an AP Environmental Science test recently and this came up and most people had no idea what Guano was 😭 literally so happy I spend so much time in the internet. The class has a lot of current events and such.

Na.
IIRC, they only have to be considered islands to extend an EEZ. However, a piece of land on the sea is only an island if it has a certain permanent size, or if it has permanent residents (i don't remember the exact requirements but it was something on these lines)
No, the island has to be permanent though, and not just a rock.
IIRC the island has to be above water 356 days a year and contain at least 1 tree (or any other brush or tree like living piece of foliage?). Population does not count.
No the actual definition is "rocks which cannot sustain human habitation or economic life of their own shall have no exclusive economic zone or continental shelf" However, they do gain a 12 nautical mile territorial sea if they have no economic of human capacity what-so-ever. In the case of the Guano Islands, the guano itself can create economic activity on the island even if no one can live there, thus potentially giving it an EEZ.
