Fantastic interview. Zoe knows who she is and what she wants and is well spoken about what she gets out of life, how she lives it and how she gives back. Zoe had my a little misty eyed too while talking about her father. My father passed away last year and it is so different to be without his physical presence. My heart goes out to her.
Props to Maria for a wonderful show and a wonderful lady to get things started with.

This interview is so interesting that you forget that it's an hour long. And I'm a guy saying this.
***** It's nice to have him distinguish it though! Not a lot of men like to admit they'll sit through something like this so thanks brah:) I'm also a guy and more guys should sit down and watch these types of interviews! A lot of them feel they gotta be guyish and watch stupid prank videos; but I learnt so much about Zoe and the insights are so valuable:)

And what I mean by negative comments, for example I watched a current interview featuring Zoe on Jimmy Kimmle, for Star Trek 2, and I look at the comments. And every comment was about her ethnicity/culture/race. Just obsessive, scrutinizing comments. What does it matter!?! Shes awesome, and she doesn't live her life, and act for other people's happiness. She does it for herself. People need to just enjoy her interviews, and appriciate her work. It doesn't matter what she is. Shes just Zoe.

Zoe is a deep little cookie.
Zoe was gorgeous, and I have to say, the first I heard of the Nina Simone controversy was from India Ari. I have to say though, Jaime Fox looked nothing like Ray Charles, but he BECAME Ray in that film. I will wait for the finished product to judge. Zoe is correct. Lets get more women in strong roles and then we can have the darker/lighter conversation. Nichelle Nichols opened doors and I am glad that Zoe seems to be doing so as well.

Why did I even watch this like seriously I'm an emotional wreck.
I dont think the issue is light skin versus dark skin, because Zoe is not light skinned. She is darker than Rihanna and Beyonce and no one questions their blackness....its about the fact that her features are so off-center from who Nina Simone was......but like i said they felt that Zoe would get people in the theater seats to watch it....Kudos to Maria for asking the tough questions

I'm sorry, Zoe seems a little naive talking about she didn't expect race to be an issue in AMERICA and how she doesn't see color. The lady interviewing you is white and you are black and there is nothing wrong with that, but that whole "colorblind" philosophy is total bs, of course people look different and are treated different. She said we have to be equal as women first. If there are a whole bunch of great/capable actresses, even oscar nominated actresses or singing actresses who just happen to have dark(er) skin, not even be considered for a role portraying NINA SIMONE, to where they have to black face a black person (who doesn't consider herself black), how is that equal. And the fact that she doesn't get that...ugh.

color blindness is a pc ideology used by people who don't have the intellectual capacity to address and understand issues of race/ racism. No one is above it all, we all have prejudice, even if we are not aware of them. Ignoring the fact that a black man walking down a street in a hoodie is looked at different than a white man walking down the street in one only ignores discrimination, not ends it. Colorblindness is not something one should aim for. We are different, denying that is ridiculous. I would rather hit the reality that people accept and enjoy each others uniqueness(whether it be culture, race, or religion) Maybe you should step from behind your keyboard and read a book...I suggest The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness

This set looks cheap. The room is too small, the lighting is awful, and the LA background is tacky. For someone like Maria Menounos, who has the capability of bringing in a large viewership from TV, you would expect proper set design and higher quality production. I've seen better from 18 year olds making videos in their room.
