  • Many people have the new LEGO set 60304: Road Plates, and they don't really know what to do with all the left over slopes. Well, I used them to create my own LEGO Öresunds/Øresunds train. And it's fully motorized!

    Nice. That's a good use of the slope pieces. Besides too few windows, you really catch the look of the Öresunds trains, with the rubber front and the slightly curved gray sides.

      @Solbrick  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you! Yeah, that's a hard compromise. There are some really good Öresunds train mocs out there though. I think the walls are supposed to go more inwards at the top, so I was thinking of experimenting with hinges where the top is 4 studs wide.

    I feel that anyone who complains about too many weird pieces in a set they’re not using isn’t creatively advanced to use them. I didn’t think of building the side of a DMU train like that

    It might look better if you use the slopes only on the bottom and use flat tiles and wedges for the top half

    I look at tons of things and wonder how to build them out of LEGO too lol! I think this is a pretty cool way to use the road slopes. I think tiling the tops of the cars would definitely add to the sleekness of the real life train. 👍🏻

    Great episode. If I had a bunch of road slopes I would consider using them for train parts.
    (Not that I have any road slopes at all. But if I did.)

    • @Solbrick
      @Solbrick  Před 2 lety +2

      One day you’ll probably have a lot of them. I think LEGO will continue pushing these out as part of city sets etc.

    Nice use of the road plate slopes. Too bad it couldn’t have more windows and a door that mini figs would be able to use to board the train.
    Just the same good build.

      Thank you! Yeah, that's the trade off with this design. It's been growing on me since I built it though, so right now I'm keeping it. I'm going to start working on a more traditional LEGO train soon!

    1:37 I remember going to Belgium and seeing a train thats similair (like the front looks nearly identical perhaps their just different versions of the same train). I believe it (belgian one) was called class 97 or something i dont remember.

    Awesome build :-)
    As a train-nerd and former employee at DSB (Danish Railways) I'd say it's pretty good, though you should ad a third car to make it more like the real "Öresundstog" and perhaps have fixed wheels only at each end and then two turning bogies between car 1-2 and 2-3 ... :-)
    Nerd-knowledge: The rubber-front serves several purposes, besides as you described when connecting several trains together (up to 5) it also has another very unik feature: Because it is hollow and filled with preasurerized air the rubber-front will act like a perfect cone when reaching speed of 90km/h making the train extremely aerodynamic... :-D

    • @Solbrick
      @Solbrick  Před 2 lety

      Wow, I didn't know that about the rubber-front! I thought the train just was kinda forced through the air. That's super cool!
      I did try to make it longer, and it looks better that way, but at the same time my platforms are to short for longer trains, and I know it's the Swedish way to buy longer trains that won't fit the platforms (Regina ...) I just thought this would be cuter (and now I've totally taken the whole build a part ... because it got stuck in my tunnels .... LOL)
