Boy, oh boy, watching these classic full-length episodes with the commercials in them are amazing. I just transported back to 1981. It's so wonderfully surreal.
Hi Eric Springer, If you're interested in watching even more 1970's-1980's-1990's and 2000's Guiding Light episodes, Then Go To These CZcams:(coffeegulper905, classicGL, munecojim, bluerose8508, Phantom3377, bandstandmike, soaploversuniversity, snarkweighsin, Dave dvlaries, 0814btm, Bold Restless, jimmuneco, nycTMONTYB, disabled1955, jenniferec2003, IsaGL, bnedceo, IIheartbreakerII, excuseyou77, kerster22, stiffkids2006, Yodaluver28, thomas123853)and Select the Guiding Light episode/episodes that you wanna watch and just push play and just enjoy those Guiding Light episodes right now and right this second, Just Check It Out, ASAP!! Thanks!!
Really enjoyed this, especially the beautiful Kelly/Morgan scenes, radiant Hope and her relationship with Alan, and getting to see more Trish. Trudy looks like Hope. Barbara seems so superfluous. Diane kicks ass!
Well this certainly brought back memories. I started watching GL around this time in the summer of 81, i was just 17 at the time, just to tune into Morgan & Kelly's wedding, and I was hooked. John Wesley Shipp not only was he my first soap opera crush, but one of my first gay crushes as well.
This was Guiding Light's best year, IMHO. They had an amazingly talented cast, and the best soap head writer of all-time. 1979-1985 or so were the true Golden Years for GL. The most obnoxious thing is that most of the episodes from spring and early summer of 1981 are missing. 1980's are there but not 81. These missing episodes were some of the best ever, as they include the height of Nola's machinations with Kelly, as well as many of her brilliant movie fantasy sequences. If anyone knows where I can find some of these, please let me know. (GAME OVER, end July '81 is here on YT. It's the few months before that I'm mourning). Most people were glued to GH in 1981, but for my money, the real action was going down in Springfield. The masses might not agree with me on this one, but the critics certainly did. GL won Best Drama twice in 3 years during the early 80s as well as Best Writing. Doug Marland fleshed out his characters with the meticulousness of a brilliant psychologist, and the depth of writing in these few years remains unparalleled in daytime history, though Marland would come close to this brilliance against as head writer of ATWT from 1986-1993 or so.

Amen:)! Hope and Alan/ Holly and Roger were where it was at:) and Guiding Light ruined both of them:( I can not believe that neither of their weddings, were ever put on that DVD they had. It's a crying shame:(

Christopher Croom I am already subscribed to most of those channels thanks. If you know of any others that have more of Hope/Roger, please let me know.
Axlelives1 Totally agree, they could have had them have problems but should have NEVER broken them up. I had an idea that I thought would have been a good way to end GL (not the same at all without Chris Bernau) but instead of having Alan die, they could have had both him and Hope (the original) go to their island alone depressed about their lives and then have an accidental glorious reunion on the beach (and then lived happily ever after) oh well. It was a total shame that they didn't bring M. Zaslow back as Roger with ALS and let Holly be there for him until the end. Just total stupidity but guess that is why it was cancelled. I also liked Ron Raines as Alan but the guy who played Kyle Sampson would have been an awesome replacement for CB.
Lori Mendoza Alan and Hope NEVER could have worked; that was the whole point of intrigue of the relationship. Alan was a cunning sociopath, and Hope was a sweet, wonderful, naive damsel. Those types may initially be attracted to each other but are archetypally opposed. There's no way that Hope could have been true to herself and stay with Alan--for very long. I'm a psychotherapist by trade. Just trust me on this one.
Who wouldn't want to see awesome characters Ed Bauer & Mike Bauer persue Roger Thrope AGAIN(Who had poor Holly hostage) Who wouldn't want to see the drama that had lead up to Roger Thrope falling off a cliff?(in the presence of people who hated him the most THEN the people being Holly,Ed & Mike Bauer. Mike Zaslow is gone, but not forgotten. Who couldn't forget Roger's return(wearing an avacado on his face)he he (in the late 80's.) When Guiding Light fell in the ratings,I think Guiding Light was"smart" to bring Roger back(in a thrilling way)avacado & all he he
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again GL stunk from late 85 after the mass exodus of Marland era characters Nola, Quint,Tony,Annabella, Jim, Peter Simons Ed and so on and until Roger started getting name dropped big time in the summer of 88 and the big reveal that Blake was actually Christna things started getting better. Then at Christmas Eve at the Baurs the doorbell rang and when the door opened I lost my mind Holy was back! At that moment that’s when stale boring GL went bye bye. I’m sure I wasn’t the only who thought when Holy showed up Roger wouldn’t be far behind. And while I am not the biggest Pam Long fan she did helm some of the best storylines late 83to mid 1985 GL was Awesome. And for someone who threw a lot of GLs history out the window she did Rogers story perfect. It’s almost like it was an I’m sorry moment and she finally gave the fans somthing we all wanted. When Ed ripped that mask off Guiding Light started remembering it’s rich history again and it erased the horrible previous three or so years. It was great television that would only get even better by 1991-92 when Phelps and company made it an ensemble show again and gave us the greatest storyline in the shows history Blake and Ross!
Yes I know that, I am a member of three GL fan groups. We were discussing why Ron replaced Chris, you just can't see that as the comment was removed after the user deleted their account. What a show! I still miss it!
Who wasn't transfixed by evil Roger Thrope's many disguise changes AND the fun house terror he caused?. (that was seen in 80's Guiding Light) I wish Andy Thrope didn't end up in prision & had wanted to strive to be a better person(ended up doing community service) Andy emotionally admited to his mom & sis Holly that he regretted his blacking scheme. If I remember correctly Andy Norris was misunderstood..
Bryce -- about a year if you can believe it. They starting using it about a week or so after they won the emmy and then every day afterward. I remember clearly watching the next year's daytime emmy awards (it was run in daytime back then) and afterwards watching GL and on THAT episode they went back to the "sunlight through the trees" closing (probably assuming they wouldn't win the award again the 2nd year in a row so they didn't want viewers to see that closing with the emmy award anymore.)
I remember weird quirky Floyd(Nola's taste in men changed for the better. her naughty girl obsession a.k.a Kelly Nelson & her greatest love Quint Mccord
I stand corrected. I don't know what turned Andrew Norris bad. I think when he hung out with Josh/Reva (in the early eighties)& he wasn't bad THEN.(I didn't know he'd hurt someone "Trish")
Oh, please, Phantom, tell me that you may have the greatest mystery I've ever seen...the Diane Ballard murder! Or it's revelation! Or the killer's trial! Or the killer's biggest secret of all! I've not seen any of it in 30 years!
Is it just me or was the new Ed Bauer a wimp?(his new potrayer potrayed him as a wimp) note:Fans of classic"The Guiding Light "soap join me in pettioning Cbs to show classic 80's Guiding Light (on the Tv Guide Channel). I wish soap net hadn't folded.
This is fantastic! I like most of the commercials that are in this video ... and I dislike the theme song that "GL" used during this time. In my opinion, it's too sad and depressing.
I agree with you. Although it's beautiful, it is hauntingly sad. The theme that they used after this one and the disco theme was by far the best ever. It fits the soap perfectly.
The theme from 1983, "MY GUIDING LIGHT " was the absolute best. It was the 1980's personified. When those lush strings come in towards the end , it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. It's so beautiful, and sexy.
Boy, oh boy, watching these classic full-length episodes with the commercials in them are amazing. I just transported back to 1981. It's so wonderfully surreal.
I remember this era very well of Guiding light, my mom watched this so faithfully back in the days :-)

Barbara seems so superfluous.
Diane kicks ass!
Barbara was indeed superfluous by this time but definitely not in the early and mid 70s.
Brings back memories remember my mom watching this, I liked this Alan Spaulding
in the 70's & 80's Guiding Light dignity meant somthing to GL characters
i remember this has a child so much thanks for psoting bringing bacl so many fond memories
The recast of Ed and Morgan along with the Firing of Jane Elliot and letting go Diane Ballard, was the nail in the coffin for classic GL.
Thanks for this upload, it's so cool to be watching tv 39 years ago😁
Well this certainly brought back memories. I started watching GL around this time in the summer of 81, i was just 17 at the time, just to tune into Morgan & Kelly's wedding, and I was hooked. John Wesley Shipp not only was he my first soap opera crush, but one of my first gay crushes as well.
der22672 God; he’s sooo gorgeous here. I loved how he’d hang out at The Bauers’ pool during the summers!!
In nothing but his Speedo!!
JWS was incredible and man what a body! Great time for GL. Good stories and characters. So miss this classic gem.

Lori Mendoza Bwaahaaaahaaa!
I love these old episodes bring back a lot of memories 😍😍 😍🤗 🤗🙂🙂 🙂
I remember Andy the character on Guiding Light he is the son of the legendary actress Cloris Leachman
I wish Alan and Hope could have lived happily ever after. They were the best.

Ted Leplatt as Andy was cunning and great !
yes, he was my favorite villain on the guiding light; even though he was just the bad guy until the big name bad guy would return.
He was suppose to come back into the story but Marland quit as writer.
It's a boy named Alan Michael Spaulding.
Betty Rea was a wonderful casting director

Alan and Hope my favorite storyline on GL and soap couple .
Before cellphone Twitter Facebook and Instagram
Chris left in late-1988/early 1989. He died in the Summer of 1989.
Actually, I only have a few of the 1981 and 1982 episodes. I do have the 8/25/81-8/27/81 episodes. I am uploading the 8/27/81 episode tonight.
IF I didn't know better, I'd think Owen Wilson was playing Andy.
ThI s episode aired right befored i left for navy bootcamp
Morgan and Kelly bringing back memories
Yes I know that, I am a member of three GL fan groups. We were discussing why Ron replaced Chris, you just can't see that as the comment was removed after the user deleted their account. What a show! I still miss it!
I keep thinking Andy's lawyer looks like one of the Wilson brothers.
Who wasn't transfixed by evil Roger Thrope's many disguise changes AND the fun house terror he caused?. I noticed Andy is wearing a belt while in jail.
Trish was very pretty. I had a big crush on her.

TimsDale4ever They didn’t win the Emmy 2 years in a row. They won in 1980 and 1982, but lost to juggernaut GH in 1981. They did win Writing in 1981.
After i joined the us navy in 1981 i couldn't watch regular what year did floyd turn killer
Dr justin marler would move to Arizona
I hated when they starteded filming at peapack NJ
I remember weird quirky Floyd(Nola's taste in men changed for the better. her naughty girl obsession a.k.a Kelly Nelson & her greatest love Quint Mccord
Question, how long did the "Emmy Award" closing seen here last? And do you have any with that closing and a full credit roll?
I stand corrected. I don't know what turned Andrew Norris bad. I think when he hung out with Josh/Reva (in the early eighties)& he wasn't bad THEN.(I didn't know he'd hurt someone "Trish")
I know that Alan and Hope always loved each other but Alan,s lies always got in the way
Oh, please, Phantom, tell me that you may have the greatest mystery I've ever seen...the Diane Ballard murder! Or it's revelation! Or the killer's trial! Or the killer's biggest secret of all! I've not seen any of it in 30 years!
So andy was sent to prison and never seen again
These commercials drive me nuts! So corny, especially the Pampers one...really!?
Is it just me or was the new Ed Bauer a wimp?(his new potrayer potrayed him as a wimp) note:Fans of classic"The Guiding Light "soap join me in pettioning Cbs to show classic 80's Guiding Light (on the Tv Guide Channel). I wish soap net hadn't folded.
Which "new" Ed Bauer? There were lots of them. If you're referring to this episode, this Ed Bauer had been around for a long time.

Mariell Clement Agree that that was the best, but Ritournelle (this one) was my 2nd fave.
I hated when they starteded filming at peapack NJ
