I actually really like the rougher finish. It's different than your typical style and it hides all of the seams of the cabinet. Love these type videos! And thank you for sharing the "oops" and the lessons learned as this provides HUGE value for anyone that wants to do this themselves.
Projects rarely go 100% perfect. Gotta show the lessons learned! Thanks bud!
The rougher finish definitely looked better. I would choose the rough look of the Raptor liner
Dude! The rough finish looks killer!
Personally, I like the rougher surface better. Aesthetically more pleasing, and durable looking - Not to mention, acoustically it is probably less reflective. - Cheers!
I would on this box but I just spent a lot of money on the birch to build it so it’s getting a stain lol
Thanks for sharing your experience with this. It should really help in a couple weeks when I do this myself.
Looks great, but I do like the ease of water cleanup with Durtex. I'd love to see a Raptor liner / Duratex / Exohyde ding/scratch test to see which holds up better.
When will you put some demo videos of the actual subs in use? I have not found very many videos of any of the GSG 24" subs, I would like to see some dual 24" subs or multi 24" subs in use and reviews of how they sound
I've been Raptor lining anything and everything for the past 5-6 years & if there's anything I can pass on it's ditch the spraygun the kit comes with & spend the extra cash on their Vari-nozzle. It allows you to dial in the texture from uber coarse to ultra fine & do it consistently. Also, start with a fresh bottle once you get down to the last 1/8th. That's where it's most likely to start spraying globs.
Thank you for the tips! I'll definitely look into that gun. I saw it when purchasing but opted to go with the regular provided one for this go round. I definitely want to do some more projects with Raptor in the future!
I like the rougher finish, looks pretty good.
I've always rolled on Duratex for my enclosures, but this looks super tempting to try on the next subwoofer enclosure I'll build. I love the rough finish on yours here.
Do it. It's a super nice and tough finish!
Nice Job...✔✔✔✔👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I like your Valuable and interesting contributions, very encouraging. As I live in the Philippines I wish to use my cnc router to make the evolution enclosure myself.. I am curious if drawings (dwg) are available..
Which is bigger Kyle's arms or these enclosures 💪💪
Camera is playing tricks. Clearly it's my arms... 🤣
4:56 that's what she said😂😅
haha. I am curious if the Raptor Hardener also works for different applications. Asking for a friend.
@@Youthman 😅🤣 you made me spit out my water
😅 more testing needs to be done for conclusive results...
I'm looking for a non toxic liner for my two 1-2 year kids.. is this it? can you recommend one
I like the option but i'm still an Exohyde fan
I still like duratex for a smooth matte finish as well. Just another option if us DIY guys need something stronger 😉
Another great video. Can you spray the Raptor Liner with its supplied gun using a small hotdog compressor or do you need a larger one.
Hot dog, no go. I should have mentioned it in the video, smallest I would recommend for spraying is 15 gallon. I used one for years out of my garage. Our shop has an 80 gallon now... You'll run out of pressure within 20 seconds with the smaller pancake or hotdog ones unfortunately
Ok thanks.
Heh big fan of the channel, just curious how come you went with straight with Raptor liner, no undercoat or primer? Is this due with a supplied gun the rougher finish covers more of the imperfections?
Hey Phil, no undercoat or primer is needed per the manufacturer on wood, most likely due to it being porous and able to soak in a bit I would imagine. As far as imperfections, I feel likes I spent a whole day sanding and prepping all the seams lol. They all have a wood glue and water mix x 5 layers over then too. So there definitely was prep, just not in the sense of primer. The rougher texture will definitely cover smaller imperfections better, but won't do miracles. Larger cracks, raised edges would be seen
OK, that makes sense, either way, they look really great, wish it was easier to get the drivers and enclosures over here in the UK. Look forward to the finished result and some demos in due course@@LifeofBliss
I wonder if dust accumulation would be a problem on the rough finish? Is it tacky when dry?
It's not tacky at all. The HVLP made it feel like fine sand paper. The regular rough texture is obviously rougher, but it doesn't seem hard to clean off. I'll touch on that once they get in the house and I try to clean it off lol
Hey Kyle, do you think either of the liners would work on the front fiberglass cap of a travel trailer for protection from gravel?
That Raptor liner would be great for something like that. Duratex would not. They make tintable Raptor liner too so you can do whatever color you'd like instead of black
@@LifeofBliss that's awesome and good to know. We have a black stripe up the middle of the trailer but it is wide on the sides so white would match everything perfect but black wouldn't look bad either. Thanks for the info
Raptor liner. Would you say this more closely resembles JTR finishes?
I believe JTR uses duratex if I'm not mistaken. Not sure if they spray or roll, but I've seen them up close. Definitely more of a duratex finish even if it's not that exact product. The Raptor has a different sheen and is rougher looking.
When you are done building these subs, what will you do with them?
Throw them in the theater for some testing and comparisons. They are done besides the dual 18. I just need to find the time to shoot some video and run some sweeps
you said 60-80psi, what size compressor are you using with the raptor gun? cfm?
80 gallon tank on 240v for this. Not sure the cfm rating on it to be honest.
Did you have to seal the screws you used on the feet of the sealed enclosure to prevent any possible air leakage?
Nope. There's no way air is leaking out with the amount of threads being utilized. Not to mention the rubber feet and washer being tightened down to make a "seal". No worries about that at all
That'd be similar to worrying about the screws holding in the woofer leaking. Not an issue 😉
Beauty, thanks again.
