If it's like the GM Holden 6cyls over here, they had a Fibre timing gear to make it quiet. And also really helped with the common ability to shred it like cardboard. 😂. Holden didn't adopt the old drop the sump to access the last 2 bolt trick though thank the lord. What were they thinking.
A nice 292 Chevy, or if you want to go V8 nicely built 283 or 327! Hope to see your truck back on the road real soon, I enjoy watching your videos when you're running the freeways and Backroads!
I would LOVE a 292. But it would be an expensive swap. I have a 350 (Operation 8 Piece Box) that I'm putting together for her. I'll get her back on the road soon, Ian, don't you worry
Hang in there bud! I kinda had a feeling that it was a gear to gear cam drive. I have not had the GM Stovebolts torn down that far. I have had the oil pan off on our 248 Jimmy and it was not that difficult to get off. The pistons look to be going up and down in full strokes except for #1. Pushing on the rod caps and looking for play will probably be the next step, especially on #1. Let me know if you are working tomorrow on it.
Ooh. A mystery. Less fun when it’s your daily when stuff like this happens. Hopefully you’ll get ‘er back on the road soon. Good vibes from mom and pop’s in cloudy Minnesota.
That sucks, but those are very easy engines to work on. Hopefully the knock isn't anything major. And the exhaust manifold, seems like those things came cracked from the factory......lol. Had one in my old Nova that a guy welded while it was bolted to the head and it actually held. I'm pretty sure some kind of VooDoo or Black Magic was involved.

You're exactly correct. Lol

Nice work, sure interested to see under that timing gear cover. 💯🆒
Big ol pile of sawdust from that old fiber timing gear, lol
Hopefully you can get it going again
I think I can get her goin
My friend wasn't checking his fluids the past month and just overheated and blew his Saturn up. Gotta check fluids. No coolant at all it threw a rod.
Jeez! I'll ignore alot of things kn a car, but high temp isn't one

Definitely some sort of cast iron voodoo if the weld actually held haha
Time to get that big block V-6...they were put in those year of trucks if you want to keep her correct...
Man! Those things are funky. If I had one around, I'd consider it, though. Very cool old engines

Time for a 283 or 327
I wish! I have a 350 that will work, but a 327 would be ideal
If it’s salvageable are you gonna fix it or do your 350 swap?
It's salvageable, I'm gonna replace the timing gear and get her going until I can round up all the parts I need for the V8 swap.
Be careful Mooni. I wish I knew wtheck...
Those combustion chambers have combustion chambers.
Funky, right?
Sic em Ary
Why do bad things happen to good engines?
well dang dont you have a v8 ready for the truck
Almost!
