    Iron Heart is an absolute pillar in the Japanese selvedge denim space, oftentimes the first and the last brand people buy. It stands out in the space, interestingly, but how consistent and smooth and NON-gimmicky they are. They're slow to fade and in some respects unremarkable, until you know what to look for and they become glorious examples of Japanese perfection in craftsmanship. Troy has 4 pairs and they're the only jeans he wears, and he's given his overview into his all time favorite denim brand.

    I always roll my eyes at the people who judge cell phone fades as the wrong kind of fades. Raw denim is supposed to reflect how you live as it fades and we can clearly see you live incorrectly because you put your cell phone in the front pocket 🙄

    I have two pair of 21 oz, a 555 and a 777, and a black overdye work jacket that they released last spring. Love the open, ropy texture and the slow fading. Extremely comfortable for what they are, and great on a motorcycle where speedy riding can make lower weight jeans flap like a flag and can be really annoying.

    I think you nailed the perspective. I have a pair of 14oz Iron Heart jeans, which I bought two or three years ago. I’m not a huge fan of fades and so wash all four of my pairs of jeans pretty regularly. My Iron Hearts have faded the least. And so when I don’t feel like wearing something more formal but want to dress up a pair of jeans a bit, I always reach for my Iron Hearts. Also, the 888s fit me well for the same reason you mention in the video.

    I'm currently wearing a pair of 25oz Samurai jeans for the Indigo Invitation Y4 and I would add one additional PRO to the IH column. IH jeans are tighter woven so they are more resistant to blow-outs and general wear and tear. I've been wearing my competition pair for about 100 days and I'm already noticing a significant blowout in the thigh area (I, too, have thicc meaty thighs). Samurai 25oz is more so a "pretty boy" 25oz denim as opposed to the "tough guy" 25oz Iron Heart denim. I go mountain biking on weekends and my IH25oz jeans can take a beating after I've fallen off my bike and slid on the gravel, but I doubt that the more artisanal Samurai 25oz would shred like tissue paper.
    I have a grail pair of IHxSelfEdge 21oz jeans and after about 10 months of constant wear, they are as comfortable as pajamas. It sounds unbelievable and oxymoronic, but comfortable selvedge jeans are possible! I can't wait until my Samurai jeans get to that level!

    Iron Heart: High-level construction, lined pockets, hidden rivet, etc., combined with a more homogeneous denim that is even comfy at 21oz.
    Samurai, Pure Blue Japan, The Strike Gold.: Less technical in terms of construction, concentrate more on special denim texture and dying procedures.
    I tend to combine both types of selvedge, as both is interesting and brings joy when wearing. I love the diversity here.
    BTW: "Raw" is not the case as most are sanforized or one wash.

      @olgi2068 Před 3 měsíci

      @@tyarnold4088 I´ll try and put it differently: IH manages to deliver a product that just feels extremely good. Given the large variety of shapes of jeans, everyone should find their best fit (777 for me), the construction is impeccable, which means to me that the jeans are only getting better over time with wear and are very durable. In comparison, as much as I dig the slubby, natural indigo hank-dyed PBJ I own, it does not have all the above-mentioned properties (and remember, it cost double the IH). It doesn´t feel like home and clearly is not as durable. Hence, when I chose to go for one jeans for three months, it was the 777-IB in 21oz.

      @@kongengorm3360The price is eye watering. I only have one pair and not sure I could bring myself to buy another. However a part of me thinks they are worth the price. My pair are 6 years old, worn regularly and still in great shape. I have worn out several other jeans in the time I’ve had these and all from respected brands. Free repairs for me as well as I’m UK but they won’t need that for a while yet

    If I had to define Iron Hearts to Japanese car, they would be the Subaru of the denim world. Like Subaru they blowout like Subaru Engines, now if you want a Honda in the denim world that lasts longer and only are the desirable as it ages you are looking for Samurai LTD CO.

    I actually cut my leg from breaking in the 666 UHS, in hindsight, NY’s humid August is probably not the best timing to break in a 25oz 😂 Once broken in though, extremely comfortable!

    I buy jeans because they last and not fades. To me fades are not important. If they are built to last im in. But iron heart prices are not reasonable for true working class. Tough sale. Great video and I enjoyed it. Nice work.
