I have memories of using both small bales & round. There was much moving using both front end loader and brute effort. We just cut the strings and shook the wee bales. The round ones were rolled out usually with a bit out hindering by the stock. But it kept you fit and warm, lol.
Good video again an usin that straw bedder the cattle are lookin really clean, love the fact u still keepin the 698 workin 💪💪 drove one o these when they first come out and handled a 4 furrow auto reset dowdeswell reversible no problem 😊
Just caught ur channel. You got some really nice looking beef cattle there An was nice to see a machine used for what it intended. Saves a lot of time too , tried to get my boss to get one but sadly he did not agree with them or to much of a skin flint . I’ll look some more of your videos. Regards from Scotland 🏴
Great to the 698 earning her keep! We are using peat for the first time this year for calving down and so far so good, we are in an area where there is no straw so it’s a huge cost. Interesting to hear straw has dropped in price again let’s hope milk heads up a little bit more. Happy farming and stay safe Thanks for sharing that video.
@@CowfarmerDan Thank you if you do a video. My 590 is going alright, I was 15 when I brought it, back in April 2018. I have took it to a show last August, it was called Honiton Hill Rally. I live down in Devon. Thanks for your videos. Keep up the good work!
Great video and great explanation for what and why you are using that machine. I have one question Dan, regarding the dust generated by the machine. Does this have a detrimental effect on the cattle’s breathing?
Dan, many thanks for taking the time to respond. Your points about the efficiency of spreading the straw and the safety of the workers was interesting. I helped bed cattle on a farm using pitch forks in the late 60’s and early 70’s as a young lad and it definitely was not efficient and we were always having to watch out for the cattle knocking you over (I was 12-13 at the time!). I thoroughly enjoy your videos Dan, do keep them up.
looks a lot like my teagle 8500 we used for feeding silage round bale less wastage and cattle eat it better it doing a great job of your straw but do you ever have breathing problem s from dust ?or eye problems?do you watch other youtubes I have channel if your interested
We have used the machine for over 6 years now with no effects from the dust. The sheds clear quickly due to natural ventilation. I do watch other channels, I'll check yours out.

Dan one man operation frees up others to work on other jobs on the the farm nice video.
Good tool Dan we have a spread a bale fits on the front of the jcb saves a lot of straw
I like how you explain things Dan great vids
Very even spreading of the bedding
We have a Lucas raptor great machine but I don’t think it saves much straw but cattle are cleaner because you bed them more often

Nice one Dan!
Thanks for the vidoe
We have 100 milk cows would it take many bales in the day to bed them. That looks a great job
Great video. Do you bed up your cubicles with straw, we have gone over to sand because the cows pick up less bugs.
No, we've gone away from straw in cubicles too.
We use a mcheal one it is much better
nice vid
Great video dan would like a straw chopper myself. Would you have any bother with stones going through it?
We get small ones go through occasionally.
Where about do you farm?
Also please could you do a video on the Massey 698, I have a 590 from 1980.
We farm in Wiltshire.
I'll happily do a 698 video.

How many weight one big square balers
400 kg
@@CowfarmerDan wawww. Thank you for sharring
Does affect cattle IES
Does it really save more or do you just do it more regularly because you use less
We still bed just once a day.
What name this machine
Kverneland straw blower
Still doing this with a fork🙁
Is straw expensive in the US?
Prices vary based upon supply...a decent gauge would be 70% of the value of grass hay. If you buy at harvest you can get it a lot cheaper!
