When would you use the wooden frames behind the wall mats vs not? I’ve seen some videos where you use them and other times you just put them straight onto the wall.

Protrusions or Masonry. This wall had a bump out, we wanted to float OVER this obstruction, so we used the Fur-out Method. It also helps to keep pads straight and level.
