Something just dawned on me. Since Marie was only introduced in Golden, it could be argued that in the original Persona 4 on PS2, Marie could have been there too but we failed to save her so our memories of her were purged.

Marie used Ziodyne to kick their asses. Kanji and Yu (by default with Izanagi) resist thunder skills. Teddie and Yosuke, however, are weak to Zio. She's only harming the two perverts in the team.
Well, it could have been Hot Thunder too, which is an Almighty attack, and would have hurt Yu and Kanji anyway.

You know what would've sold me on the Yu x Marie romance? If they had a seen where they keep trying to go on a date but every time something gets screwed up or someone cock blocks until Marie had a big out burst complaining about how nothing ever works for them listing off the date so far but add their wedding ceremony and first child at the end. Yu obviously say some stuff to pacify her but when you find out later who she you realize she was talking about Izanagi and Izanami their past lives and how things always ended in tragedy for them.

Fun fact: Eden Riegel who voiced Marie also voiced Hifumi Togo in Persona 5. I was really disappointed when I found out that Hifumi was supposed to be a Phantom Thief too but was cut due to time constraints. She would have been an interesting character especially when you see Hifumi's aggressive side.
Another fun fact: Her brother Sam Riegel voices Teddie lol.
yakuzamonkey Actually her being planned to be a phantom thief isn’t true. There was a character that had a similar design to her who was going to be a phantom thief, but they cut that character and used he design for Hifumi. So Hifumi was never technically going to be a persona user.

Not really. I like her. Well, I like her character design, but not so much her personality. For one, she could've been a bit more like Elizabeth, though, people then would've complained that she was nothing but a knock off, she'd at least be a little more tolerable, in my opinion. Sure, the tsundere is kinda nice and funny, except for when it's overused. Then you just start to feel pissed off and annoyed.
I'd say those who hate her are the minority i always see comments praising her with more thumbs ups then dissing her. Also, haters of good stuff are usually in the minority, so yea.

Wow. What a well developed, interesting, brave, unique character. She's got an attitude so she has rough edges but she's also fleshed out with a curious spirit and a kind heart. What a fun character to add to the game, with such a cool story to go with her. She adds a whole new layer to this game and has her own heartbreaking angle on the story. Definitely a worthwhile addition.

Xackadee That's just one of many things Marie has in common with Xion in Kingdom Hearts, though in Xion's case, there's a general belief (at least on TV Tropes) that she was meant to be a parody/deconstruction of the "14th Organization 13 member" Mary Sue, so that's probably part of it in her case.
Troublethecat Suppose so. Regardless, neither of them are Mary Sues and any attempts to class them as that are done out of dislike for the character and no other grounded reason. Poor Xion and Marie are really good characters that get dismissed way too much and when I see that happen, nothing will stop me from stepping up to call it out.
At the end of the day though, negativity like that for characters that clearly don't deserve it just gets gets me down so much that I just avoid comments like that. If it's painful to put up with, I won't force myself to put up with it.
Xackadee While I'm not sure if the Mary Sue -moniker really fits her, I can see where the dislike is coming from. Her character does feel somewhat forced upon the original story and her importance to it is in the "what she is", not the "who she is" category.
It does not help that she is revealed to be a particularly strong being in her verse and a story-favored love interest of the Main Character. Couple to that the fact that Tsundere-type of characters like her are often hit and miss to begin with and you will easily end up with a divisive character.
I personally really hoped for some actual negatives coming from her self-termination attempt thus the "Friendship prevails all" felt quite cheap way to end it.

I played Persona 4 Golden first. In fact, I still haven't played the orginal Persona 4, I've only just got into the series by recently getting P4G. I can assure you, she never felt out of place. To be honest, after seeing her story, the story as a whole feels incomplete without her.
And since when was barely story-favored love interest status and high level of power negative character traits? They aren't. They're qualities some fans will take issue with for petty, illogical reasons.
I can understand people disliking her because they don't favour her personality or whatever; that comes with the trade of being a character. All characters face that kind of hate. But reasons like that are simply unfair.
Xackadee Firstly, my points were about why many people dislike her, not why I personally do (I'm more or less neutral towards her).
I can see that when the first exposure to the story is the one that the character is already included in, they are much easier to accept as part of the story. Some people don't have that luxury after the vanilla P4 and to them she's this new inserted character which already can give negative vibes.
While not a shipper myself, in a game like this that allows for multiple relationships, having a story-favored love interest may piss off some fans, especially since this interest is the "new girl".
You skipped past some of my points about her character being "special" in a way not many other characters are and her status as a goddess is the main driving point of her plotline. Once again not necessarily Sueficators on their own, but the fact that this "new girl" is not only a shipped love interest and IT's treating her like they have known her for much longer than they actually have, she's also a "special" superpowered entity. She also has nothing bad to actually happen to her even after all the "angsting" she did in her dungeon, tho IMO the angst part was understandable.
You are right about it being unfair to be overly harsh with her just because of her personality (which is a very hit-and-miss), but her insertion to the story wasn't the most graceful and the "special"-flavor does not help, especially since she's a new girl in an existing story to many.

I hope you guys know she's not actually someone like the Velvet Room attendants. The reason her and Yu (The protagonist) have such a strong connection is due to who they are/who they represent. Yu's Persona is Izanagi and Marie is actually Izanami. Izanami was Izanagi's wife.
Atlus I BELIEVE has spoken out and said if there were a canonical romance for Yu, it would be Marie.

marie is probaly my favorite character in the game. the girl with a roigh exterior but a bright soft interior. sure another character is like that in the game. but Marie is different than kanji, plus Marie really does care about everyone.

I love the relation ship and story of marie and Yu along with their personas kusumi-no-okami and izanagi-no-okami they in ancient times were husband and wife and she created the God of fire and burned herself to death, izanagi went to hell to find her and bring her back but the one he loved was gone and chased him away and they became mortal enemies. But as you see here they were meant to be.
replace kusumi-no-okami with izanami-no-okami and you have the correct myth.
Actually, you're quite wrong about that. In the true ending, once you go to visit Igor one last time before the credits, it's discovered that, after Izanami-no-okami is defeated, all of her powers come back to Marie, where she gets all of her power back and becomes the true and only Izanami-no-mikoto, meaning that Kusumi-no-okami was just one of the halves that made such goddess (the same way that happened with Loki in Bayonetta 2 but with a female teen instead of a 10-year-old boy) , which means that the history was right, but with the slight change of the goddess being only 50% complete.
Izanami-no-mikoto is just another name for Izanami-no-okami. Kusumi-no-okami is probably based on Kumano-Kusubi, who has no relationship to Izanami whatsoever.
The OP is saying that in the original mythology, Izanagi and Izanami were husband and wife and that's why the MC and Marie are meant to be. I was just correcting their saying Kusumi-no-Okami instead of Izanami.
If it's still unclear somehow, I'm using the actual mythology and not the events of the game. There is no god named Kusumi-no--Okami in japanese mythology.

Shes actually half of Izanami and even then Izanami further split herself in to two other parts Ameno Sagiri and the other one Kunino Sagiri thats why marie tells you that when you defeated the Sagiris they came back to her ... the same happens to Izanami ... so in the end of the game Marie has not only her own power but that of the two sagiris and Izanami.

Is it just me or Atlus wants to keep the True ending as hidden as possible? (every game after it either takes them b4 they finished that game (PQ) or barely ever mention it at all (P4A), even when they do mention the "God" P3 team drove back)
Most of the time your attacks on Marie get reflected. Just have to deal with it. Shield of Denial will reflect ALL of your attacks, including almighty attacks. And for the real boss, it starts by reflecting all attacks except almighty. Good thing you find plenty of elemental resistance negate items throughout the area.

Plus I hate it when Teddie ruins everything for everyone, like the Carnival when the guys are cucked out of getting dates because of that idiot pervert, and the girls quickly realize their mistake. It's stupid. Those tropes need a rest. It seems a bit too tragically comical (by that I mean it's "comedy" at the expense of another character's well-being) and I hate that kind of comedy the most.

1. Yosuke talks about the girls in swimsuits in a sexual way, I proceed to choose the reasonable, non perverted answer. Yu gets kicked into the cold water with Yosuke anyways.
2. The girls got the times of the hot springs mixed up, they acknowledge that it was their mistake but consciously decide not to apologize for injuring the boys anyways.
3. Yosuke signs the girls up for the beauty pageant without their consent or anyone else's knowledge. The girls are angry. Kanji shows interest and support for the idea. I choose the option that shows I'm against this fucked up idea. The girls proceed to sign Yu into the crossdressing contest with the other two anyways, as if he's partly to blame as well.
4. The boys try to spy into the girls naked. Yu, while not stopping them, is not participating. Yu gets punished anyways.
It's honestly really fucked up and unfair. I can KINDA see punishing Yu for not stopping them in the last example I gave, but still, in all the others there was absolutely 0 reason for Yu to get dragged into the punishment/revenge. I got really angry at that while playing through the game. I guess I can understand the third example I gave since they WOULD have to make a whole new scenario depending on what Yu chose, but 4, 1, and especially 2? No excuse, just unfair. There are probably some other moments like this that I forgot as well.
The worst part of the hot spring scenes, is that ATLUS has learned nothing, because there's also a cliche scene of girls beat up boys for an innocent mistake in the hot springs in Persona 5 Scramble. Not as bad as the one in P4 since that was literally the girls' fault and they didn't apologize, but still, it was JUST an innocent mistake(or Innocent Sin, if you're the king of comedy)
I wouldn't even mind that much if there was an option to go "I'm not gonna stop you, but you're on your own.", leading to only Teddie and Yosuke recieving karma (since, with a few exceptions, they deserve it).
Although in this scene (where they get zapped by Marie) one thing worth considering is that Yu and Kanji are resistant to elec skills, Teddie is weak to them, and Yosuke is either weak or neutral (depending on his Persona evolution), which is something to keep in mind.
alright guys, I'm just gonna say it. Marie's battle is one of my top 3 favorite Persona bosses

This is the real world... a thunderbolt of that size should have literally killed everyone, especially since they were in the water. We don't see evidence of this anywhere else, though! And besides, SOME people's personas don't even resist lightning.
Taeko Yasuhiro That's mainly because no one's tried to cause serious injury to a party member outside the TV world from what I recall anywhere else in the story. The only other answer is Anime physics and Rule of Funny. The same as the girls throwing wash tubs at the boys at the hot springs not hurting them as much as it should have.
Troublethecat Yeah, it's just suspending disbelief for the laughs xD i hate that kind of humor, though. It's hard to suspend my disbelief or feel any sympathy for Marie being peeped on when her response is to do something that in the real world by all means should have murdered all of her friends.
+Taeko Yasuhiro Eh, While i admit that the persona 4 cast is easily the weakest of the persona users (even if you include marie in their team comp) persona 1 and 2 characters where casually eating heavy nuclear damage in the real world so i think they could take maybe one of the bolts she dropped.

John Aske what i dream of is that they'll do a Persona Colletion porting P3P and P4G to PS3, it's very possible and would be totally awesome, not to mention they could do some improvements on P3P poor cutscenes (and by that i mean make give us a female protagonist hotspring scene that's actually a scene e_e)
Simply put they had more time, and more space on this version.
PS2 DVDs held 4.7GB, and I think P4 was about 4.2 or so. PS Vita cards can go up to something around 32 or 64GB. This game is at least 7GB.

I think MArie only zapped TOsuke and Teddie. After all, Yu and Kanji were still on their side of the springs. They weren't intentionally trying to peep.
Besides, Kanji likely got roped into that, he seems pretty annoyed.
