    Hi Joyce - Thanks very much for your sharing here! I’m considering applying for the semester course this Fall (2022) and would love to know more about the course. I’m taking a career break (was a lawyer for a few years and I’m now study social science as a master) and would love to explore a bit more in the art field (but I don’t currently have plan to work in art field / study another master degree after the break). Do you think it will be a good option for me if I just want to have a sense of the art world and the art business in general? Thank you so much!

      Hi Sissi, I’m so sorry for the delayed response!! I think this course would be an excellent fit for you especially given your law background. Have you considered going into art law specifically or are you more interested in art business in a broader sense?

      @@JoyceChow Thanks Joyce! I haven’t considered going into art law specially but just keep my options open at this point! I’m a bit concerned about the cost (as they need 10000 pounds for a semester course) and am still considering if I should do it this year (rather than going back to the work force for another one or two years and save this as my next career break option!)

      Hi Carla, thank you for your comment! When I did the program in 2019, I only had classes a couple of times a week. Sometimes classes would start at 10am and end around 5pm. It really depends on the day.

      @@JoyceChow thank you so much! I will be attending this program next spring, 2022! I am currently looking for housing, what did that process look like for you? i'm not sure if I should live right in bloomsbury (Southeast by London School of Economics, or west near Soho or Mayfair)? Where did you find a lot of students living, and where would you have wanted to live if you were able to go back out there again? Thank you so much for posting this video, it's been so helpful as I've been looking at this course!

      @@jennamoore1230 Greetings and congratulations! I'm so excited for you!! I actually lived with other classmates in my cohort about 30 minutes by tube away from SIA. There are many student housing options, but those actually are more expensive than finding a short-term lease. There are Facebook groups for housing in London that could be helpful to check out. I think I would have liked to live closer to the campus if I could go back out there again, and yet, I am also thankful for my housing situation because I think it was more affordable living further away. Please let me know if I can answer any more questions, Jenna!

    Hi Joyce,
    This is Shubhi Gupta and I am going to SIA same program in September 2022. Thank you for sharing this video. I would like to know is there any platform where one can pre engage with their classmates? What specifically should be one's focus during the program and what is the best way to connect and network with people in the art field.
    Thank you.

      Hi Shubhi, thanks for your comment! Congratulations! I’m so excited for you!
      I found Facebook to be helpful connecting with classmates beforehand but there was definitely an online platform (I want to say it was Canvas) that you can formerly connect with classmates. SIA should notify you. (I used their formal platform to meet my flatmates who were my classmates.)

    • @JoyceChow
      @JoyceChow  Před 2 lety

      Connecting and networking with people in the art field can take many forms. You will meet so many peers from around the world during your program. You will also meet instructors and art professionals as well at SIA. Take advantage of the formal and informal networking opportunities provided by your program. I also find LinkedIn to be a great platform as well. Be authentic and be yourself! :)

    Hello, Joyce!
    Thank you for sharing your experience! I’m extremely interested in this theme and I’ll be enormously grateful if you could answer some of the questions I have ..
    I’ve just finished the school and have in plans to attend MA art business a few years later, I’m so inspired to study here! And I faced the problem with the choice of bachelor degree program. I read about GAP year programs and, if I understand correctly, they don’t give an opportunity to attend MA, right? Are there any Sotheby’s programs that will allow (after finishing them) to study MA in Art business or should I have bachelor degree anywhere else and only after it come to Sotheby’s?
    which bachelor speciality should I choose to more likely be in demand as a candidate for SIA master's degree in the future?

    • @JoyceChow
      @JoyceChow  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Ulya, thanks for your comment! From what I understand, the programs like the gap year and semester-long programs do not guarantee a spot in the MA but they can help in preparation for the MA. Have you contacted SIA directly with your questions? I just want to make sure you get all the information you need!
      I personally wouldn't stress too much about your bachelor degree. I studied Foreign Affairs as an undergraduate before completing my master's in the History of Design. At the same time, I tried to take business courses to supplement my liberal arts degree. I hope this helps!

    Do you think that having an art background as a bachelor is mandatory? Right now I’m studying management but i’m very interested to to an exchange in art and business at Sotheby’s

    • @JoyceChow
      @JoyceChow  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks so much for your comment! I definitely do not think having an art background as a bachelor's student is necessary. (I majored in Foreign Affairs as an undergrad.) The program is designed to give students an introduction and holistic immersion into the art business world!

    • @JoyceChow
      @JoyceChow  Před 3 lety

      When I applied in the fall of 2018, I had to fill out an online application including two letters of recommendation and resume, and then I had a Skype interview with two of the instructors.
