Omg you did Crass... I'm impressed
That's what I'm saying. I'd of liked them to do so what.
I wanna see then hear some dayglo! Is this disgusting. 2 dogs fucking or wasp.
I'd love to hear Vin's thoughts about "Bloody Revolutions." It would be very timely
Crass lived on a farm and sustained living using commune practices
jacob price some of em are still there and anyone is still welcome to stay
Dial House, Penny and Gee’s home.. Your home too, if you wanted to live there.. Crass is the truth..
Lyrically Crass blow everyone else right out of the effin water. Stylistically in a class of their own. My favourite band of all time. And thankfully all recordings came with lyric sheets. Thanks for this.
Yeah I don't know about that. Iggy...the damned....sex pistols....I think their creativity made them more special.
@@Godloveszaza Lyrically they are very intense and powerful and he's basically rapping? without actually RAPPING rapping, but his rhythmic delivery is very similar, like some musical version of convergent evolution. But when it's fast you lose the clarity and it's a different shouty thing. Musically they do some REALLY interesting noise and tape loop / sample stuff and they had SICK bass lines. One of my favourite ever bands.
Once Crass started making money, they recorded new bands for free, the money they made from their art, they spent on other bands
They gave some of that money to families that couldn't survive on their income (welfare, unemployments benefits etc).
they did it for cheap and a small percent it wasnt free and tey did poison giorls cos poison girl s loaned them the money to press feeding of the 5000 second sitting
There's a documentary about Crass called: There is No Authority but Yourself. Basically, Crass lived in a communal setting and never had the need to sell out to provide for a family. To me they are very idealistic but practical in the sense that they proved it can work on a fundamental level. Appreciate your guys open minds though. But try and be an optimist. Humans are at the baby stage of our potential development.
Crass - Big A Little A
Crass - If there was no government
Where was Exploited, the Ramones, Social Distortion, Minor Theat, Black Flag....I could go on forever. We need a punk month! Regardless, you did awesome!
All great bands I would love hear all of those bands what about the Bad Brains
Dead Kennedys, UK Subs, Charged GBH, The Damned, Discharge, Anti-Pasti, Nina Hagen, Anti-Nowhere League...
@@Module79L I was fortunate enough to see GBH awhile back in San Francisco at the bottom of the hill club in the great show I think I paid 10 bucks they were amazing
Omg you’ve done Crass 👍👍👍 how about doing Big A little A ? Best Crass tune 👍👍
Heh, does anyone else remember when some old punk cut a Crass symbol in a field and everyone thought it was like a legit crop circle? UFO pages were trying to figure out what the symbol meant... I'm like, hello, it's the cover of a Crass album...
Much Respect for reviewing Crass!!! A true life changing band-for me anyway. They had integrity and massive influence to many bands including Dead Kennedy’s. I saw em in a disused Police Station (very apt) in early 80s. It blew my mind!
The Damned - Neat Neat Neat
Dead Boys - Sonic Reducer
X - Sex And Dying In High Society
The Clash - White Riot
Bad Brains - I Against I
@Dane Gonzalez better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
@Dane Gonzalez I don’t need to rebut a child that doesn’t know the history of punk.
@Dane Gonzalez you think it's punk to write a diss track about another band? Sounds like rap. They gonna add a dj? Maybe an MC? They need some street cred so they went after a superior band? Are they East Coast or West Coast? Crass are over-rated. Have fun listening to an inferior band with your 16 year old gutter punk friends.
Crass did the artwork for all their albums. They originated the A in a circle logo. They would print on the cover "Pay no more than 1Pound for this record". That was their personal anarchy.
@@MacGuffinExMachina It doesn't matter. On the whole they were unusually original in their lyrics, ideas and at least attempted to live what they "preached".
Prouhon created it in 1830. The circle is an o which stands for order. Anarchy within order. go figure...
Really interesting discussion (from a Crass-appreciator, as you may be able to tell from my avatar), coming from people who are presumably unfamiliar with anarchist ideas. Without going into too much detail, the general idea of anarchist philosophy is that by taking responsibility for your life you empower yourself (and others), thereby you are your *own* leader. On a general level, your points regarding anarchy and human nature make me think you would really enjoy/ benefit from reading from Peter Kropotkin's works, in particular Mutual Aid! would love to see you do a video discussion of extracts from that : )
P.s. The state - largely as we know it - has only existed for a few thousand years (for example, the Mesopotamian Empire emerged just 3-4 thousand years ago), which, given the fact that humans have existed for about 200,000 or so years, makes what you say about anarchistic ways of life being "impossible" extremely problematic to say the least...
You must do the full album, feeding of the 5000 to get the real orchestra of the band 👍👍 thanks for this you’ve made my day 👍👍👍👍
Crass are the most intelligent and important band ever to emerge from the UK. They were also offered millions of dollars to be just another money-making slave for major recording labels, but refused. They are not a punk band either. They despised The Clash and the Sex Pistols.
CRASS!!! THE BEST PUNK BAND EVER!
You two are SO awesome together!
THE EXPLOITED - Punk's Not Dead
You can't end punk week without the Bad Brains.
Your the first person so far that's mentioned the Bad Brains so far tyvm
"Who's Steve Jones"?
"Who's Patti Smith?"
Ahahahahaha. *This goes on for quite a while.*
well Crass never signed to a major Label. They produced and sold their records by themself. They did everything they can ro keep their records and concerts as cheap as possible.
really good review of some Crass..really enjoyed this...great drums on every Crass song
Come on Man you have to do Institionalized - Suicidal Tendencies - Origianal 1983 Version All time Punk Classic
I think both of your reactions are truly impressive! That is, of course, if you had not researched beforehand. But I think you did a good job of interpreting the legend of CRASS. Thanks, cheers.
"Patti Smith, you're napalm!" has always been my favorite line in this song. Haha.
Misfits - “Hybrid Moments” or “Die Die My Darling”
CRASS is amazing. Thank you for delving as deep as you have.
With Bad Religion, The Descendants, and Offspring it's great that all 3 lead singers have PHD's. Punk is varied and the genres are vast. Thank you for looking into it. You might like The CRASS song Big A little A bouncing B or Revolution. Punk itself is quite similar to Hip Hop in its social commentary.
You really need to react to Reality Asylum by Crass. You really do. I dare you. I double dare you. You will have never heard anything like it. Love your channel. Interesting hearing your opinions on these records.
I'm so excited to see a CRASS reaction. You should definitely explore their catalog. I'm a dedicated metalhead these days, but I grew up on alot of anarcho punk like Crass and Conflict. Their story is pretty amazing, what with making international headlines about the whole Thatchergate scandal and being very vocal about the Falklands conflict. I'd definitely recommend checking out Big A Little A. A personal favorite and great social commentary on late 70's England. Also, catchy as all hell
Wow nice pick very very old school stuff here I really love these guys brings back good times ...... ..... NOFX....would be a great reaction guys thanx for punk RAWK week I'm loving it. This is so much fun
D.R.I. ! A lot of metal (thrash genre at least) have been influenced by the punk scene. Just take Slayer's Undisputed Attitude punk hommage. If you want the real Offspring punk era go back to their 2 first albums and pick songs like Kill The President, Tehran, Jennifer Lost The War , L.A.P.D., Kick Him When He's Down, No Hero, Forever And A Day or Burn It Up.
Wow really going underground... some Anarcho
You guys must do more Crass, totally under appreciated
Aus Rotten
Or
Behind Enemy Lines
Both are American Crust Punk
Awesome lyrics, any song
Behind Enemy Lines is great, but Aus Rotten is the necessary context
I'm so impressed you reacted to Crass. I think Bata Motel, with their female singer, has to be a much more profound song. It's my favorite of theirs. I had never heard a woman talk about things like that before (in the early 90's when I first heard it).
X Ray Spex -The World turned Dayglow
Should totally check out Choking Victim or Leftöver Crack. Or both! Botu are FANTASTIC!
Punk week without NOFX? NOFX the decline is a must Vin.
I'm sure they just didn't upload the videos in order, if you noticed at 7:45 they said they listened to The Kids Aren't Alright by The Offspring (much to my annoyance, haha), and they didn't release that one yet... I have no idea they did NOFX but I guess there are a bunch of videos still to come, they've only uploaded like 4 punk songs that's not a "week". And I doubt they would have a punk week with no Ramones, The Clash, Misfits, etc.
@@Kyomaro09Takamine lol pop stations love 18 minute progressive punk rock ballads.

They don't have enough knowledge about Crass full stop and I don't expect them to. It's good they listened at least. They would need to listen and read a lot more about them to understand exactly what they were/are. Also his interpretation of Anarchy is a very general view. Its not what Crass where about I think. There is a lot more to the meaning of anarchy than what his interpretation is. But then again that's his view. Fair enough. He hasn't got it. CRASS influenced my world view more than anything. Conflict as well. It all still stands true.
So 'Punk Week' is only two days long? WTF?!
Crass - White Punks on Hope
That one's pretty interesting.
holy fuck, you did crass?!! Wow. So much context in needing to know the history of punk and politics of the UK at the time to really get this song, but cool you listened anyway.
You absolutely need to hear The Misfits. I'd suggest Hybrid Moments, Skulls, Last Caress or TV Casualty.
Great songs, but the lyrics mean absolutely nothing... and I'm a big Misfits fan since 1988.
This video should've been followed immediately by the Exploited's "Punk's Not Dead". ; )
Much love
Wow brought back some memories, was a big crass fan in the 80’s
The Interrupters-Take Back The Power
Angelic upstart - the murder of Lidl tower
Crust anarcho-punk. Love Crass!
I know I've suggested Crass but I really didn't think y'all would pick them--too esoteric for most people, even though in Punk circles they are as popular as The Clash.
I highly, highly recommend looking up punk subcultures, like "crust punks," for instance.
I know what Vin means by, "outsider," but "outsider" music is literally a genre--some outsider music is goofy on purpose and some outsider music is sincere so it can be funny, cringy, and sad all at once. "Outsider" music as a genre, part of the broader genre of "outsider art," is music that is entirely amateur, created by non-professionals, also is often by people who are not skilled or educated in music. The Frogs and Daniel Johnston are two artists that are sometimes considered "outsider" and if you check them out you'll have a better understanding of that genre; however, like most punk, I do not consider The Frogs or Daniel Johnston to be "outsider." When it comes to "outsider" music I tend to think of the instant record booths people would go into and record a short record, (Jack White's Third Man Records has one of these booths, check out the CZcams video by Adam Savage at Third Man.) I also think of the field recordings of old blues and gospel music.
Patti Smith is just Patti Smith.
Speaking of Napalm, have y'all checked out the band Napalm Death?
AntiFa is not a group it is literally just a shortening for "Anti-Fascist," so AntiFa actions are just anti-fascist actions, whether or not they are individuals acting or groups acting against fascism. Whether the group is a group organized with a hierarchical structure or an anarchist group with an anti-hierarchical structure. Mainstream, and especially "right-wing" media have misconstrued what AntiFa is. I suggest checking out the book by Mark Bray "Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook," and give Philosophy Tube's video on AntiFa, "The Philosophy Of AntiFa" a watch.
I was so happy singing along while your jaws were on the ground. Steve Ignorant was Ol dirty bastard of Punk rock
Crass. Probably the most influential British punk band ever. Politically important. They influenced so many. Their album "Yes Sir, I will" was a classic, mixing crap commercials and music. And you got it right, they believed the Clash etc... Sold out. The last I heard, the lead singer of Crass still lives in a community of hippy types. They were hugely important to me.
You know what, I think your more punk than you think guys. Metal was always the corporate cousin of punk. Metal bands were always more into money than any kind of message.
Never thought I'd say it, but Vin. You got it totally right.
One thing I gotta say is one thing about punk is that it's kind of like love. Everyone interprets it in different ways and fights about what it truly is.
When they speak of CBS they are referring to CBS records which was pretty much under Columbia Records at the time. They aren’t referring the news outlet in the US.
Lazarus A.D. - Revolution
I love that you featured Crass, have you checked out The Exploited? stay away from their albums after 87'.
Fair play, that's some proper punk and I love the lead in, even in punk week you're not ready...
Man this is this the funniest video on t'internet and Crass were spot on...
Punk is Dead!
Oh man, Vin I love you, is Malcolm McLaren your dad, m8 you could be a punk!
Smash the System!
Anarchy is based on mutual aid.
Mutual aid between living beings in nature is scientifically proven.
Therefore they are wrong in saying that anarchy is impossible because it does not occur in nature.
Anarchist is the person who does not want to dominate or be dominated, who wants peace and freedom and rejects violence and authoritarianism.
I do not see so difficult a world under these parameters.
Sex Pistols were a boy band put together by record execs that's why Crass roasts them
Have you checked out "Pink Flag" by "Wire"?

"Name me a band that's done it"
NOFX
Plenty of ways to twist it, but those trash bags "made it" well before any corporate influence became involved.
You should really read up on the history of Crass. What they did and what they were about was way more than music.
The Damned, Smash it up! Please! Karl, UK.
On CRASS: since they self-produced and self-distributed their music, selling it for the lowest price they could, they totally made Punk an out-of-the-system thing. They also re-invested their profits in releasing other bands and in counterculture stuff, never getting rich in the whole process. It was like creating an alternative way to do things in the system, but against it (if the philosophy of capitalism is "sell your product, make profit", they totally turned it around). AND they did it all WITHOUT a side paid job, since they were a collective living in a squatted country house. Oh, and they were offered to be a part of the mainstream, but they stayed in purity. Even nowadays they keep a lot of that purity.
On Anarchism: I believe that your christian conception of the world blinds you causing all this "we need a leader" thing and the "we are inherently sinful" (not like I believe we're "inherently good"). It's leaders who create systems, not "humans", and it's leaders who take systems created by pure people and turn them into something corrupted and wrong. But politics are not the main topic here. Just felt the need to point this out.
I enjoy your reaction videos, specially when it's satanic stuff. Keep up the good work.
- An Atheist-
So how did Crass label survive and thrive for so many years? They were selling records for 20% of the price of any of the big labels. 99 pence compared to 5 Pounds for a Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin album. Not just promoting themselves but so many other bands.
Who did that in the USA? Do remind us.
i was hoping for a Crass track on here and i wasn't disappointed. Been watching these for a while since someone sent a link through to the bad religion band page on facebook admittedly i kind of had my hopes built up that it was "asylum" or "where next columbus?" - maybe in the future?
The Offspring "Gotta get away"
After the Burial - Lost in the Static🙏🏽
I believe CBS was the record label the Clash ended up on... the Crass are an amazing band, also much love to the discussions you two have after listening to punk.
The thing about being signed by major labels is then they control you and force you to change your message. Major labels invariably sanitize your music.

You seem to over look that some people refer to a band being a sellout isnt that they become popular or are making money but that they change their music or what they fight for as a result of it.They lose sight of where they came from or what they stood for.
Exactly. Selling out is essentially compromising your values and who you are as a person in order sell more albums and tickets.
GBH.. City Baby Attacked by Rats..
Lou Reed also snubbed Smith : Fuck Radio Ethiopia - this is radio Brooklyn I ain't no snob ! ( Take No Prisoners 1977 live Album )
I am not an anarchist because I am still learning about it and am not sure I agree with the ideology, but there are answers to your questions if you google them. I' glad you at least know that it isn't chaos... or rather the political ideology is not about chaos. In fact, the circle in the circle A symbolizes order.
Also, there are different schools of anarchism. They don't all agree with the approach. It's kind of like feminism or really any ideology. They agree on a core value or core values, but everything else is up for grabs.
Shit, Christianity is a great example. Saying you're a Christian is incomplete. Are you a Catholic? Baptist? Methodist? Etc.
And everyone thinks they believe in the "true" form of it and everyone else is wrong.
The Sex Pistols told EMI to fuck off after they stole their money for their signing. And in the song "EMI," they said "Goodbye A and M, with a fart sound." The Pistols burned them both. Crass talks about Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols a lot. I don't blame them history hindsight 20/20. Cheers.
You speak of systems right now but what about this quote? Albert Einstein Quotes. We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them. What you and a lot of people seem to have the problem of doing is to try to fix issues with current logic instead of moving your thought forward.
Nina Hagen - Hochzeit auf Ibiza
I fucking loved that song.
I hope the song was all you listened to before pressing pause. Viewer Warning - in this clip, for several minutes Vin and Sori talk "right-wing" delusional horsecack about everything from the nuclear family (an inherently abusive destructive phenomenon) to the functioning of various political sects - but what do we expect, after all they're dangerous psychowhoofers (that's what any religious person is).
Not all Anarchists are antihierarchy. Depends what kind of Anarchists we are talking about.
Anarchy doesn't have to be applied to the family structure either.
@@Grithron2 Make an argument with substance. There is nothing to respond to in your post.
5:10 Vin, most bands these days have 'day jobs'. The music industry isn't what it once was, and they have to these days to survive.
Crass was one of the bands I had pained on my leather jacket in the late 70s
Well, shit. I was just on the previous video saying that I hoped you had took this "punk marathon" to react to The Offspring's original version of "Gone Away" because you reacted to the emotionless cover by Five Finger Death Punch and never redeemed yourselves by listening to the guy sthat actually wrote the song. And then I get to this video, and learn you instead listened to The Kids Aren't Alright?
Please transmit my extreme unhappiness at whoever told you to react to that song. Not just because you didn't pick Gone Away (although it's my favorite song by them, along with Dirty Magic), but because a song like "Come Out and Play" would surely have given Vin a lot to talk about, while being a much better song instrumentally, and you didn't pick that either.
I once worked with a guy who played drums for Crass. He started a conversation with me at lunch after clocking my Sick of it All t-shirt. He wasn't the original drummer, and only played for about 6 months, but was now suited up in sales and marketing! Dum-doosh dum-doosh dum-doosh dum-doosh....
