In the deep factory settings menu of our new xtrons android headunit i have found a feature that automatically connects the iphones hotspot, which means you no longer need to touch your phone to give the android unit internet access. I have had the feature turned on for about 4 days and it works flawlessly, no longer do we need to manually turn on the iphone hotspot. You just turn the car on and it auto connects, its brilliant.

Mate you have no idea how much you helped me with this video! I was completely frustrated with continuous disconnection of my hotspot while driving, specially when you are using the GPS this could be extremely dangerous. Thank you very much!
3 years later... :) Another way is to set up an Automation in the iPhone's 'Shortcut' app to turn on the phone's hotspot when your phone connects to the Android unit's Bluetooth. You can also add a 'turn on hotspot' shortcut to the home page or even *lock screen* of your iPhone if it disconnects. Useful if you need the full bandwidth of your internet connection.

Does it also add “Ethernet” thing somewhere near WiFi and Bluetooth in iPhone settings menu, or is it just mine doing a weird thing? I don’t understand why it would create an Ethernet
Hi, I don’t have other option in factory settings and also the Bluetooth network settings is missing. It’s android 10, the options in factory settings are down the side, not across the top like yours, would it be under anything else? Thanks

Hi I’m looking for some help. I have an android 13 head unit built into my ford. I can’t get it to connect to the internet via my I phone hot spot. When ever I turn on the WiFi on the unit it automatically takes me to car play, every time without connecting to the WiFi. So annoying I can’t I can’t get WiFi hotspot to work. Help please

Unfortunately as more and more companies have made these the operating systems have varied so much. Definitely try and look up specific ones for your model number.

What if I have my iPhone on USB and in the arm rest storage? Is USB tether possible and is it better than BT speed?

@@ZeroTo60Tube I’ve been running a 4G SIM card in it to date that works a treat for data, but if I try and make a call from android auto it tries to do it from the data sim rather than my phone (which is paired via Bluetooth). I presume android auto on yours would call from your phone?
Before I go for a drive I connect to ZLINK for car play & when I’m using maps & Spotify at the same time it randomly disconnects from my iPhone . Can you please help ? Thanks in advance:)
Mine is finding the hotspot, connecting then doesn't connect and says it was the wrong password. No matter how many times I forget the hotspot, it wont connect. Do you know a fix? Thanks

New Android 9 head unit installed this afternoon. At first it found my iPhone's hotspot. Entered password and then it disappeared. I'm guessing the headunit can only do 2.4ghz and not 5. What do you think?
I was able to use my Galaxy's hot spot after I configured it to 2.4ghz

Wait a min. So I can share my Bluetooth hot spot to the android and enable data sharing. So if I understood it correctly, that means my car android will have internet using my phone unlimited data without sharing my network hotspot and running out of data?
get well soon! Anything in particular you've gotta do on the iphone? Furthermore, that factory settings menu contains so much stuff I haven't been able to find any documentation for. Link to earlier vid or new vid?
All the iphone needs is to be paired to the xtrons bluetooth. The factory settings i normally use to turn off the radio app, and then there are settings for reverse cam as well, which are handy. I would greatly avoid the touch screen settings. On one of my old units i messed up the calibration of the touch screen somehow, and it took ages to correct it.

I'm either being incredibly dumb (highly probable!) or I'm missing something? I can now get my iPhone to act as a hotspot (had to disable my Roadangel dashcam first though, as it was taking preference!!) but the head unit needs to be told to search for internet connections every time I switch the ignition off and back on again!!
this thing is unbelievable, but my word is it irritating!!!
also as a side note, i don't suppose you've covered "sleep mode" in a video by chance ?
How do you get your unit to load instantly. Mine has to load the android software every time. I have found that the manual that came with the unit is well useless.

There didn’t seem like there was much interest and other things were more important to get done. And about a month after this xtrons released the new model so it become irrelevant real quick.
Been thinking about upgrading to a new Oled screen version lately.

My problem with using my iPhone as a hotspot is that iPhones require me to go to the phone's "Personal Hotspot" screen and toggle the hotspot off/on every single time I got in the car - as I'm working with delivery, I must have do it 50 times a day and wait some time until the head unit get the signal.
I want to be able to just get in the car, not have to touch my phone and have the Head Unit grab my hotspot right away. Any idea?

Go to Bluetooth on your phone settings and the option will be there to tick to share contacts

It may have old firmware. Or not compatible bluetooth chip. Worth speaking to where you purchased.

Does the heat unit accept a sim card itself
It doesnt, this is non 3g/4g model. Unfortunately non of the china androids seem to work with out australian networks anyway.
Martin at MCM also sounds a bit crook in their latest vid. I've been tested 3 times negative in the last month since I can't seem to shake this cold.

Had it at the start, 2-3days feeling like death n got over it within couple of weeks but lungs felt knackered for a month or so after! I smoke to lol brother got it a couple of weeks ago n had exactly the same n he don’t smoke!
Yeah fingers crossed. I don't feel too bad, just can't talk for too long, or my throat appears to turn to dust. I have been working on the zeroto60 website in the mean time, so hopefully have something useful up in the next few weeks.

Mate, just get one of those USB dongle-shaped wifi dongles that the Aussie telcos used to sell. Not one of the small standalone cellular wifi ones with the battery inside. Plug it into a cigarette lighter to USB adapter and it’ll turn on when you start the car, and turn off when you turn off the car.
I had one of those in my previous car when I had an Android head unit. Worked flawlessly every time.
They are another option if you have a spare sim for sure.

For some reason my iPhone hotspot wont work? It will connect but the internet wont work? It will save it as a hotspot but the internet wont work nor will it come up on my phone as the unit using my hotspot? Has anyone else had this issue?
