Beautiful songs require beautiful voices to make them work. Here ya go! The greatest voice of all time! Long live the Queen of Jazz, Mrs. Ella Fitzgerald.
Maybe I should have saved those leftover dreams Funny but here's that rainy day Here's that rainy day they told me about And I laughed at the thought That it might turn out this way Where is that worn out wish that I threw aside After it brought my love so near Funny how love becomes a cold rainy day Funny that rainy day is here It's funny how love becomes a cold rainy day Funny that rainy day is here
I am running out of superlatives when talking abou Ella, superb rendition, emotion, peferct diction, perfect vocal control and her unique ability to reshape the melody, she has no equal.
A voice barely under control...it wants to go off into the heavens (and does). Warm basso, sweet trills, a complete understanding of the lyrics, distinctive voice, that's ella.
Maybe I should have saved Those leftover dreams Funny, but here's that rainy day Here's that rainy day They told me about And I laughed at the thought That it may turn out this way Where is that worn out wish That I threw aside After my lover was so near Funny how love becomes A cold rainy day And funny, that rainy day is here Funny how love becomes A cold rainy day And funny, that rainy day is here That rainy day, that rainy day is here
This was a year B4 I started studying w/ Ed in high school in LA, when Keter Betts was her bassist. Later it was Frank De La Rosa. Not long after, he emigrated to Copenhagen.
jimmy van heusen was one of the great composers of popular music yet largely forgotten. This was perhaps his masterpiece and this is one great interpretation by the greatest singers of popular music (yes in my opinion better than Sinatra)

The incomparable Ella, imao. She's 48 her. That wonderful, open, throat; that unforced tremolo; that incredible tonal accuracy. That modesty. Just phenomenal (but she could sing the scales and she'd have me at "doh", I admit).
Well said and agreed. All time favorite female vocalist. Saw her once in the 80s in San Diego. Wish I could go back. No one delivers a song the way Ella did.
Siriusly Sinatra satellite radio is playing an exquisite version by Ella -- a televised concert performance --of Burke/Van Heusen's masterpiece, Here's That Rainy Day. The scroll on the computer screen includes a graphic from a (new) CD? Titled “ELLA - Her Greatest Hits on CD - From the BBC Vaults.” Not posted (yet) to CZcams. But even better! This 'live' performance with one of my jazz piano heroes “The Tommy Flanagan Trio” circa 1965. Thanks for sharing ruvo. Celebrated elsewhere this day [search] " Great Melody, Great Lyric, Great Rendition, Songwriting Workshop, Harmony Central "
In my opinion - the best female vocalist of all time.
Franks Sinatra was asked "Who's the greatest living singer?" His reply? "You mean besides Ella Fitzgerald?"
She was pure magic! I adored her and still do her voice was pure velvet!!❤❤❤❤
