I had one of those from ‘84- mid 90’s. Heavy action but a unique sound all of its own. Christine McVie used one on the ‘Tusk’ album and onstage at the L.A Forum on the’Mirage’ tour.Finding someone to repair nowadays would be an issue.
I used to play your my best friend by queen back in 1982 on the cp 30, which was very new for its time, and weighed a ton to haul around, but cool nonetheless...
That's for real. I got mine in August of 1980. I had been using a Rhodes Stage 73 for several years before. I was shocked at how much the CP-30 weighed. When I moved into my first Detroit apt, I would carry it up and down two flights of stairs every day...before rehearsal...after rehearsal.
I just got a cp30, it is super noisy. I was wondering if any one knows how to get rid of the crazy ocean like humm. I was thinking of buying a ground loop eliminator. but any help anyone can give me would be great.
Radial makes a great stereo interface for pianos, the PRO-D2 ($149.95 street). It also smooths out the sound as well as killing ground loops- IF that is your problem. I owned the CP-30 back in the day, and it was quiet with no hum of any kind- but you must remember this instrument is over 40 years old. Note the outputs on the PRO-D2 are XLR with 1/4" inputs. Good luck!
@@usertubeification you mean the capacitors on the power supply? or you mean the ones that are on the final output stage (there are 3 buffer amplifiers inmediately before the output jacks: one for channel I, one for channel II, and one for the mix of both.
I had a CP-30 back in the 1980's, wish I still had it.
You can tell this video is from the early 2010's when the guy looks like a GTA V pedestrian
I've got one, paid 150€ in a garage sale.
Gorgeous endless nuances!
Built like a tank, never fails!
This is the main piano they used for the song "You Make My Dreams Come True" by Hall & Oates, released in 1980.
Yep. Greg Hawkes from The Cars also used it on Bye Bye Love.

You can fix the scratchy controls by cleaning them with deoxit cleaner :).
“I’m not a keyboard player.” Nor was John Deacon, but he got that right. You didn’t do half bad either.
I hope you found a taker for this piano.
Cool sounding, but maybe it's just room tone-it seems excessively bright, especially since you've got the treble cranked up all the way... :P
Analog piano. What a classic.
Argh! The reason you change the pitch is to turn one slightly up and one slightly down for a detune effect. It's magic. A whole new set of timbres.
This. And this piano ought to be used in STEREO. Mine has a separate chorus pedal on each channel and the results in stereo are very good.

That sounds spectacular
I like the grand piano sound
I bought one new around 1981.
Ar-too doo-too
Does the Yamaha cp 30 have a built in amp? Im just trying to figure out one i bought?
No but you might have figured that out by now

make sure you are using an amplifier that is suited to the -20dbu low impedance (600ohm) out of the CP30
Change the electrolytic capacitors on the output...or have a tech do it.

@@longde Final output stage, most likely, from his description.
Not surprised the 'C' note's not working if you you use your fingers as substitute battering rams.
what an ear
have strings?
No, is fully electronic: transistors, ICs, condensers, resistors...
