- TWSBI created a 50ml inkwell that's made to fit the TWSBI 530/540/580/Mini, as well as standard international converters. It's a good way to fill your pen without making a mess. It's a classy-looking bottle that you can use for all your other pens, too, and I show you how to get the most from this bottle.
I just got the Diamond 50 today and the instructions along with the bottle were really poor. Your video was great as it explained every detail and function of this great ink bottle. Thank you very much. You are a star!
Now I see the justification for the cost of these bottles. Very, helpful video. Thank you.
Such a simple mechanic, yet ingenious. I love it.
I greatly appreciate your videos, as they are very informative and entertaining too.
Wow!! Very useful!! Also, it is GREAT that you demonstrate the PROBLEM before presenting the solution! Very orienting!
Thank you for this video, you are one of the only channels that go over this process. Big thanks!
Well, the instructions make sense if you already know how to use it :P But that's why I do these videos! Thanks for the kind words :)
My 580 just came today and this looks like a great ink bottle. Perfect for use with any pen and great for inks bought in large quantity. Makes a great gift for yourself and pen loving friends. Thanks Brian!
Glenn Higley So glad you like it, Glenn!! -Brian Goulet
Thanks for the review. You're right, why isn't everyone making these! I'm ordering mine now and looking forward to not making a mess every time I fill up my pen.
Brian, thank you that was very interesting!! As you probably know I have 3 of the TWSBY 580 diamond pen ,I was wondering what made that such a special so thanks for sharing this part I
You use the plastic cone with the 580/540/530/international filler to get over the problem of filling with only a small amount of ink left in the bottle. Same procedure of turning the bottle over before filling applies, of course. So having it in *is* "buying you something" unlike what you say at 03:50 and works all the way to the bottom getting over your 07:07 complaint.
Thanks for all the videos!
WOW!!!! that is absolutely fantastic!!!
I have an old Parker Penman bottle with exactly the same plastic cone in it. Couldn't figure out what was it for until I saw this video. Thanks!
Levenger Ink Bottles come with this adaptor inside. I bought my first fountain pen and ink from them 15 years ago. I never could figure out how to use the bottle until I saw this video last year. (the whole tip it up to fill it...) I tried to get the plastic piece to come out but couldn't. lol --- Until I learned what it was for, I was frustrated trying to fill my pens a lot.. Thanks for giving us so much NEEDED information.
+Susan Clarke Glad it helped! -Margaret
Levenger ink also has the spout in their inkwells.
Thanks Brian, I did not know how to use it when filling a regular pen and one where the ink is low. Too cool!!!
Carolyn Young many a manufacturer make so-called "inner inkwells". Visconti, among others named, also adds this to their ink bottles.
Also what do you think of Levenger inks? I have tried Cocoa, Regal and Cobalt Blue and now I'm hesitant about other colors I was going to get.
I don't know a more specific date yet, it should be pretty soon though. I'm eager for them to arrive, too!!
What an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G IDEA (and such a beautiful inkwell)! Do you think, guys, there is a chance TWSBI would come out with a ROSE GOLD lid one (to match their RG series) 🥰?! I surely hope so!
Love these "vintage" videos, Brian. They're super helpful! Have a wonderful weekend! Liat
Okay--I saw it does fit the mini, too! Awesome! :)
WOW ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!!!
Very helpful visual demonstration of how this TWSBI Ink Well works. I just learned this bottle existed earlier today in your video from 11/16/22 about the TWSBI pens and products. It would be great if you could put a link for this in that video.
It sure does :) I use that pen in the video to demonstrate the inkwell...
Absolutely had to pause the video and click like at the words "But you're not going to need that, because you're watching this video, and I'm going to tell you everything!"
Yes, the TWSBI mini works; he showed it in the demo. Cute pen.
I wonder if there would be a way to 3D print aftermarket caps to fit Pilot, Sailor etc, for this and for the little 20.
I'm considering one of these for my desk at work.
That mini internal well looks useful for samples.
2:50 the ink holder cone: Akkerman bottles have it internally (hence the weird bottle shape) and Rohrer and Klingner sell one that fits into all of their bottles.
good point, I overlooked that :P
Picasso (a Chinese brand) ink wells have in-built 'cones'. They are also extremely aesthetically pleasing!
That's cool, I didn't know that. Sailor and Namiki do, as well.
These are pretty handy.....not cheap, but handy!
Just the glass bottle part, not the adapter at the top. It only fits Standard International converters, or the TWSBI 530, 540, 580, or Mini.
Going to design and 3d print some cones for my ink bottles... thanks
I've never heard of these...a little tough to find, but from the one listing I saw the bottles actually look a lot like the older Parker Penman ink bottles...
Now this is cool!
Gisselle Chiong glad you like it! -Brian Goulet
Haha, thanks! :)
Wet noodles are a term used for vintage flex pens, and pretty much nothing today is made to those specifications, for whatever reason. You pretty much have to go vintage (not my area of expertise), or pay big bucks for a nibmeister to grind you something custom.
Levenger also has the plastic cone in their inkwells. But they do not have many colors or empty ones to buy.
Great for using the last drop of ink in the bottle!
Definitely! Must-have item for anyone with a TWSBI 580. Makes filling so much easier. - Colin
Thank you!
Interesting, I haven't tried my m800 in this bottle yet. Do others have the same experience?
Haha, no I'm not hiding anything. I was just being goofy :P
What is the music in the beginning of the video? I really love it, it's great.
Great! Thank you!
Thank you so much help🎉
Love it !
I wanted to love this inkwell so much, unfortunately it leaks quite a bit when I turn it over. Is there any solution to this? I've tightened the lid quite a bit with no luck. Maybe It's a defect and I should exchange it?
Do you plan on getting these back in stock soon? I'd really like one!
They do have the resemblance. They quite worth the price (I got it for US$8) given that I've also got 50ml of decent black ink (pretty black!), the ink is also on the relatively wet side, at least my bottle is, which I enjoy, but can get annoying with a flex nib. Oh with that in mind, do you know of any wet noodles out there?
They come with 50ml of black ink (I think they also have blue) and cost about $13 on ebay, so pretty good deal ; )
Any idea when the TWSBI Diamond 580 will release exactly? I know on the Goulet website it says that it will release in early March, but do you have a more specific date? I'm just itching to place my order.
Awesome ❣️❣️ but now someone has come up with the free standing cone and one that will go into the Noodlers bottle 😁 right!! ✨💫💖 yeaaaa❤️ now you can show us how to use that tooo!! Write ON Bubba Write ON 😃😘
Yes, that's the Ink Miser inkwell (www.gouletpens.com/ink-miser-intra-bottle-inkwell-black/p/IM-11000). Super useful, especially with low ink levels. - Colin
Really annoys me that the straw doesn't just go down to the corner so it can get every drop. Ridiculous that it isn't designed that way, especially for a custom bottle like this.
Hi Brian. I realize this video is 3 years old now, but I'd love to know if the green, purple, and orange versions of this inkwell are still available. Online I see only red, black, blue, and silver at the moment.
Unfortunately not, the ones we have listed (Black, Blue, Red, Silver) are the only ones available currently. - Colin
ugh killing me... after seeing that trick with the converter and the plastic cone thingy, I must have one of these now.
This is great, i am looking to dip my pen in a container to write. One of my waterman pens that I love a lot is not getting the ink from the cartridge, so do you think if I buy this and use the inside plastic to dip my pen in it, that it would work?
This are more specifically designed for TWSBI pens. I'd definitely go with an Ink Miser (www.gouletpens.com/ink-miser/c/462). - Colin
Can this fit the Vac 700 or do I need another bottle?
I'm not familiar with it at all (it's not a pen brought into the US), and I only found one site that has it. There's not much info there, but it looks like a fairly 'normal' Pilot pen. It fits a con-20/50, and that's about all I know.
Still waiting for them to come out with an Iris cap
Is a TWSBI converter considered an "international" converter? In other words, can a TWSBI converted pen (a non 540-580-whaterver) still use this inkwell? Thx.
will this work with the lamy converters?
so my screw in converter will screw into this ?
Delta? It would be nice to not be as messy
Does this work with the eco?
Will this work with the Lamy converter? Thanks! (using the straw function)
No, in my experience, only standard international converters fit with it. LAMY and Pilot's proprietary converters do not create a great seal. - Colin
Quick question.. Which ink well works for TWSBI Eco?
Neither the Diamond 50 nor the Vac20A are designed to work well with the Eco. They need pens with removable nib units which the Eco does not have. That said, you can still use it like a traditional inkpot and remove the cap altogether. - Colin
Would this work for Twsbi Vac700 pens? Or do they sell a similar product for vac700. I know you can use the cone but I'm not sure if they might have a matching product
This inkwell is incompatible with the Vac series pens. You want the TWSBI Vac-20 for the inkwell purpose designed for those. Goulet has a video about it too!
Hi Monsieur Goulet I have a question:
Does this inkwell fit the lamy and Pilot converters?
No and no. It only fits TWSBI pens and standard international converters. You'd have to fill them directly from the bottle just like you would with any other ink bottle. -Brian Goulet
Can confirm, 580 has been released.
$25, in the US at least.
Just a little doubt sir! Can you actually write with the demonstration ink you use in the video? Or is it only for name's sake to show the movement of the ink?
I've had my diamond mini for a week now, and I've tried unscrewing the grip section like you show in this video, but it is REALLY TIGHT. It makes an unpleasant sound when I try to force it a bit and I'm just terrified it'll crack, or something. Is it really as simple as untwisting it?? I don't want it to break! Is it normal for it to be so tight?
+TheCanadian19 It should twist off fairly easily. Have you not untwisted it before to fill it with ink? - Colin
+The Goulet Pen Company No, I simply dipped the nib into the ink and twisted the piston to draw the ink up. I've tried twisting the grip section really hard and it won't budge.
+TheCanadian19 Hmmm, I'm not sure what the issue would be then! It twists off almost too easily on mine. TWSBi is usually pretty good about product issues, so maybe try reaching out to them? - Colin
So you tell me that.
You have bought the Ink bottle as an "Empty"
So what is the type of Ink you had used in this Experiment?
Thanks anyway.
its just water and coloring :( he said that thats what he uses because its easier to clean'
Are there any other products like this for Pilot fountain pens? I'd like a way to fill my pens without making a mess. I know when using bottled ink a little mess is a necessary hazard of the hobby, but I can't imagine clients or the courtroom taking me seriously with splotches on my fingers in my near future. Is there another way to use bottled ink without needing blotting paper?
The Visconti Inkwell works with a good selection of Pilot pens (www.gouletpens.com/visconti-traveling-inkpot/p/VI-533), but the price of it would deter most people. Unfortunately, those are the only things that we offer that are similar to the TWSBI ink wells. - Colin
Thanks! The price is rather off-putting, but not unexpected of Visconti. Hope other manufacturers will produce and sell something similar in the near future.
Do you know which TWSBI has the largest ink capacity? I'm trying to buy one that will last me in college.
The TWSBI Vac700R is definitely top dog here with a 2.37ml ink capacity. The Vac Mini is second with a 2ml capacity. If you want to go the piston filling route instead, the Diamond 580 has a 1.98ml ink capacity. Really can't go wrong with any of those 3. - Colin
Could'nt you carry this plastic cone thing ? When the level is too low, I grab my syringe and needle and go get the ink like this. Then I just push it back in my converter. The cone thing is definitely more convenient !
The cone is definitely convenient but TWSBI doesn't distribute just the cone unfortunately. We do offer something similar for Noodler's bottles with the Ink Miser inkwell: www.gouletpens.com/ink-miser-ink-shot-inkwell-clear/p/IM-11003 - Colin
:)
Thanks for that, Brian. Very informative. But - judging from your facial expressions, I'd guess that you know something we don't! :)
Too bad we can't get ink sample tubes like the TWSBI cones!
hicamajig Yeah, that would be pretty cool -Brian Goulet
Cost of this bottle??
do this inkwell also applicable to twsbi eco? tnx
Not really. You can still use it as a normal inkwell, but you can't place the Eco onto the cap like you see the 580 doing in this video. - Colin
+The Goulet Pen Company Thanks Colin :), so my only option with this inkwell is to use that cone then?
Yeah, either that or dipping it into the bottle itself. An Ink Miser Inkwell could do the same job (www.gouletpens.com/ink-miser-ink-shot-inkwell-black/p/IM-11001). - Colin
Can you fill it all the way up?
If you're planning on using it with the 580, yeah you can fill it all the way up! - Colin
wow im the 20,000 subscriber!
VinniManga woo hoo!! That's awesome, thanks for subscribing :) -Brian Goulet
The Goulet Pen Company No thankyou for your content !!!!!!!!
The Goulet Pen Company rediscovered my comment from my childhood account, wow 155k now, time does really fly...
Does this work with the ECO?
No, it doesn't attach like the other pens do, since you can't unscrew the grip. You can still use it as a standard inkwell, though! - Drew
Does it fit the TWSBI mini, too?
Looks so cool! :)
Hello there! I actually own one of these and it's amazing. I do, however, have a question for you - should I be using the reservoir with my TWSBI pens? I notice that you use it without; does it make a tangible difference to take it out? Many thanks in advance :)
It doesn't really make a difference one way or another, with or without :) -Brian Goulet
The Goulet Pen Company Keeping the plastic reservoir inside allows you to get the very last of your ink out of the bottle and you're always ready to fill any pen. I like the bottle so much that I wish I had a dozen of 'em. Any bulk discounts available, Brian? ; )
Couldn’t they design an ink well that lets you get every last drop? This system seems like such a faff especially for a custom inkwell!!!
25 USD
Maybe it's me being a cynic, but I'm guessing the lack of such a simple method to get ink into a pen from a low level is so you can't use up every drop of ink and have to buy a new bottle of ink.
flootzavut ink syringe
flootzavut You can use a syringe, eye dropper, or even a Sheaffer Snorkel to get the last drops of ink.
It would have been cool if you edited out 8 mins of unnecessary discussion.
Does the TWSBI Eco fit this bottle?
