Tony, Crystal, and Frank team up for another Batman themed episode! Everyone knows Mask of The Phantasm is one of, if not the best Batman movie ever. We decided to shed some light on some other great Batman movies that we think deserve a closer look. We each picked 2 movies and mention some runner ups. Let us know if you agree with us and what you would choose as underrated.

Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker is so friggin awesome.
I really like The Batman vs Dracula. Also side note it'll probably never happen now but I'd love a Batman vs Predator animated film

The voice actor for Scarecrow Joker confirmed he was doing a Walken impression. Also pretty sure that was Michael Rosenbaum (Flash in JL and JLU/Lex Luthor in Smallville)
Michael Rosenbaum is great! His show “inside of you” is a great listen! He interviews actors, directors, and entertainers. They dive into different subjects and talk a lot about anxiety in the entertainment industry. Really great interviews! I love it!

Talkville is super good tho as I started watching his podcast because of him talking about Smallville and his guests so when he started up talkville I was super pumped. Look forward to it every week now more then Hack the Movies. Still love Hack tho I need Tony to get more subscribers as this channel is criminality underrated
Wow this is so cool! Under the Red Hood was amazing, I wish they would make a live action adaptation of the Jason Todd story
Check out the teaser for Hitop Film's Jason mini series. I know it's just a fan film, but you can tell a lot of effort went into it. And the suit looks good.
Mark Hamill's laugh in Phantasm still gives me goosebumps. Love that movie.

Batman Ninja was an unexpected surprise the teaser got me interested in seeing it I liked it very solid loved the art style ..it was so weird at times like he was trying to blend in but he cut a bat symbol into his hair 😂
Shoutout to Tony for mentioning this to me at TooManyGames about doing this review!!!! I'm surprised you guys didn't mention/talk about The Batman vs Dracula based off the The Batman cartoon at the time. I remember watching it at the time when it was on Cartoon Network and I enjoyed it
The Batman vs Dracula is obligatory, such an underrated movie. Peter Stormare does a really good Dracula. And the voice of Spiderman in the Playstation 1 games voices Batman.
If you like Batman: Assault on Arkham, you should watch Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay. It's in a different continuity, but it's R rated and a lot of fun.
Under The Red Hood is my favorite animated Batman movie.
Great drama, action scenes, and animation.
I would've preferred Mark Hamill over John DiMaggio as the Joker, though.

Under the Red Hood got me into the DC Animated films that weren’t attached to the Timmverse

I can't believe I missed this episode. Batman + the triumphant return of both Frank and Crystal? Sign me up! I gotta say that Return of the Joker is probably my favorite out of these, even though I generally prefer the original animated series over Batman Beyond.
Mask of the Phantasm pales to Under the Red Hood and Year One

I think the animation in Gotham By Gaslight is supposed to look like that to convey simpler times.
I loved the Jack the Ripper change. Definitely came as a shock
Im not picky about the animation but its Sherlock Holmes X Batman! Batman beyond is my favorite batman show the villains are so good!
Love this review here Tony keep up the good work. My top underrated Batman animated movies are this: 1.) Batman Bad blood. 2.) Batman: Goham by Gaslight. 3.) Batman under the Red Hood. 4.) Batman the Long Halloween part 1 and 2. 5.) Batman Hush.
Honorable Bonus versions of Batman animated movies are Batman Sub-Zero, Batman mask of the Phantasm, Batman Superman Public Enemies and apocalypse.
Why the (hate lol) dig on the phantasm? I know it might be a little overrated in this day but it still good
@@stevenpina1983 I'm not saying that I hate Batman mask of the Phantasm I actually love it it's one of the first introductions to Batman animated movie that I ever had I'm just saying that I think it's a little bit overrated.
However I will say this that it was the start of it all for the DC animated movie universe. Most of the underrated Batman animated movies that I listed are actually very good ones in my opinion.
I'm glad you picked Batman Hush. I agreed with ComicPop when they said the comic would've been better if it were just a Riddler story, which is exactly what the animated movie did.

I actually spent my Spring Break watching a lot of the animated Batman movies on HBO and I would have to say my top two underrated would be 1) Batman Year One and 2) Gotham by Gaslight . I just really enjoyed their story telling and how they each did something a little different that you hadn't seen previously.
On a different ranking, I would have to say my least favorite would be Batman Ninja and Gotham Knight.

My number one animated Batman movie is Batman the dark knight returns 1 and 2. And also Batman and the teenage mutant ninja turtles.
Batman Beyond and Boy Meets World series wrapped on the same day. Will Friedel was in both series.
Under the Red Hood is just exceptional. Takes the base story and takes out all the filler then razor focuses on the story. Even the sequel Death in the Family was fun. Then again, John DiMaggio's Joker is so underrated in the role. After that, Soul of the Dragon is my second. It is such a love letter to Denny O'Neil's Batman and Richard Dragon comics. Though Kelly Hu as Lady Shiva (reprising her role from Arkham Origins) steals that movie.
I kind of wish we got a Batman animated movie with Cassandra Cain (who I'm kind of shocked still hasn't gotten to be in any of these animated movies). But I guess I'll take her extended role in Young Justice Season 4.
There's an episode of Tales from the Crypt with Ewan McGregor where he has like, the worst American accent I've ever heard. "What's a "hhhhwanker"?"

Crystal, Gotham by gaslight is one of my favorites! You will love it!
I usually watch Gotham Knight back to back with The Animatrix, both have the same anthology structure and animation houses for each short.
Favorite is Batman: Under the Red Hood.

Gotham by Gaslight is great and would’ve been my pick.
I liked it until the ending completely screws over Gordon's character.
This is a great video and I have to side with frank batman assault on arkham and the arkham games(not knight)are awesome and as for my favorite batman movie it's batman return of the caped crusaders. Second one is mask of phantasm

The Batman Superman Movie or World's Finest as it was called on STAS. Only about an hour and it nails everything perfectly. It deserves to be recognized.
Underrated animated Batman movie: The Batman vs Dracula. It had great animation and great atmosphere. The scene with Joker at the blood bank is still shockingly amazing.

I had an idea for a Batman movie where we parallel jokers relationship with Harley alongside Batman’s relationship with Vicky Vale.
But in this film Joker would be totally devoted to her and she’d humanise him.

If I remember right, Batman Beyond was done by the time they started on the movie, then the movie had some controversy, and that’s why there’s the censored version
The joker fish comic was from the 70's, not the 80's.
It would be cool if Batman Year animated movie was recolored in old school comic books colors, while it does follow pastel colors from trade paperbacks in retrospect they are far inferior to vibrant and way more creative coloring of original comic pages had that created whole different mood.

Batman 666 came out when I was collecting comics. I really liked Damien in that era. Not just the 666 story, but in general
To be fair to David ayer, his edit of the original Suicide Squad movie might actually be drastically different. Whatever he filmed, the trailers were trending really high on social media but when they tested the movie with audiences, they really didn't like the film. So Warner Bros turned over all of the footage to the company that cut the trailers and told him to edit the movie like they did the trailer since the trailer tested well. That's why everybody gets introduced three times in the first 15 minutes and why some plot elements like the Joker are basically completely dropped. Would it be a great film? I don't know, but it definitely would have been a lot better than what we got

Batman Under The Red Hood is such a masterpiece of a Batman animated movie aside from Mask of the Phantasm.

For me, my fave Batman animated films are Mask of the Phantasm, Sub-Zero, Under the Red Hood, Hush, Gotham by Gaslight, Death in the Family, Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and The Dark Knight Returns.
Edit: I also want a animated film where Batman goes head to head with Deacon Blackfire.
In the Batman Beyond to show, they actually show the Joker’s corpse in one episode for a few frames.

Gotham by gaslight is pretty good
When I worked at the Warner brothers studio store, we had the teaser for Return of the Joker on the video wall.
The commentary stated the buildings were all empty when the laser hit.

I liked that era when movies tied into animated DVDs: Matrix, Van Helsing, Nolen's Batman. That was a cool moemnt.

@@HackTheMovies I suppose the animated Fast & Furious fits into that as a late example, even though the main cast isn't in the show. Or Jurassic Parks' animated show (which had a fun first season).

Hey, you've got the same birthday as me Tony! Just 7 years after me. Anyway, love Batman Beyond : The Joker is Back Again This Time... Again.
Unfortunately too many people hear "animated" and immediately tune out. Nearly all of the Batman's range from good to excellent. Year One is as much a Jim Gordon story as it is a Batman story, but I'm there for it. Under the Red Hood is probably my favorite, but as a fan of TMNT that movie had me smiling and laughing a lot. There are definitely a couple though that get a hard pass. Hush and Gotham by Gaslight come to mind, but there are some real gems in the DC animated catalog. The 2009 Wonder Woman is basically the 2017 film done better. Nearly all the Justice Leagues were excellent. I really liked the 2 JL Dark films. The Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen might be my favorite Superman films. Even JL v Teen Titans and Teen Titans: The Judas Contract were really good.
The Grant Morrison Batman and Robin run when Dick was Batman is one of my favorite runs in all comics.

Batman & Harley Quinn Harley is played Melissa Rauch. But in the animated show Harley Quinn she is voiced Kaley Cuoco both are from the big bang theory

"The Dark Knight Returns, Part I & II" is my favorite animated Batman movie. I own the the one where the two are edited together as one long two hour plus movie.
Dark Knight Returns Part 2 is my all time favorite. The fight with joker in the tunnel of love then Batman beating Superman was so good

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 and 2 Peter Weller's does a great old Frank Miller version of Batman, Batman and Harley Quinn was great too because Swamp Thing is in it aswell.
So excited to see Crystal and Frank on the show. They are the Batgirl and Azrael of the Hack the Movies universe.
