    Chaos Warp - Often people want to reveal the top card of their deck before shuffling the card in. This matters is the top of the deck is known to to SDT, JTMS, Oracle of Mul Daya, etc.
    Grip of Chaos - Whenever a spell has to choose randomly for several targets, players often forget that once you roll multiple dice the odds change and some low numbers are impossible to roll. You need to use a RNG for each potential target to actually have equal chances of being selected.

    • @adamrobinson6951
      @adamrobinson6951 Před 2 měsíci +1

      I've had too many disagreements with people about this. There's 16 possible targets, so we'll just roll 2d8, a d12 and a d4 etc.
      Always just roll the next dice up, in this case a d20, then reroll any result above the number of targets. If that means rolling several clearly distinct d10s to generate a huge number, then that's what you do. (eg: I roll a red d10 as hundreds, a yellow one as 10s and a blue one as singles. Red: 3, Yellow: 8, Blue: 6 gives 386. Hopefully you never need to go that high).

      Probably because the spell has chosen legal targets, it resolves. Like a killspell fizzles because it lost it's singular target while Decimate would need to lose all 4 targets to fizzle. You still targeted them when they were initially legal, so why would the whole spell fizzle if it's 3 other legal targets are still there?

    I see people confused with when they gain control of someone’s creature and it doesn’t have haste.

      Thats a dumb rule for stealing creatures imo

    • @JayoticMTG
      @JayoticMTG  Před 2 měsíci +4

      It’s a rule that doesn’t really get the spotlight because most common theft like Act of Treason gives the creature haste. It’s counterintuitive, but Control Magic type effects require you to wait a turn.

      @MattHarb Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@JayoticMTG yeah it came up recently in my pod with +1/+1 counters making a huge “Skrelv Defector Mite” being enchanted by “Fealty to the Realm”.
      Fealty to the realm makes you think you’re gonna be attacking with the enchanted creature a lot. But it doesn’t have haste so it can’t attack the turn someone gains control of it. Then because it was Skrelv, it couldn’t even block. So Fealty to the Realm was significantly less efficient than we thought because of the lack of haste

    I have a personal vendetta against myriad landscape because myriad means DIFFERENT, yet because of the stupid text, the lands have to be almost identical. Even if you were to run something like rootpath purifier, the lands would still likely end up being almost identical due to those limitations. One of the official rulings here: "There won’t be an additional main phase after the additional combat phase. For example, if the landfall ability resolves twice during your postcombat main phase, you’ll get two consecutive additional combat phases after your main phase (untapping your creatures at the beginning of each), followed by your ending phase."

    Worst I've seen is stasis seedborne muse. In theory you stop everyone untapping with stasis and then untap on their untap step with seedborne muse which reads. You untap all permanents you control on each other players UNTAP STEP. Stasis reads SKIP other players UNTAP STEP. The untap step doesn't occur so seedborne muse doesn't trigger, so you don't untap. Better to use something that flickers your permanents or untaps at another point in time. Like your end step with wilderness reclamation.

    I find the decimate thing to be a bit funny because of yugioh, and more specifically for reasons that are a bit hard to explain.
    I guess the best way to put it is that because of the PSCT (problem solving card text) it's usually pretty clear what the requirements have to be to activate a card.
    For example, decimate written like a yugioh card would look something like this: "Target a(n) artifact, creature, enchantment, and land; Destroy them."
    I messed up how this would be written a tiny amount, but the idea is there. It's written to be incredibly clear that you need to target one of each when you activate the card.
    PSCT is a bit of a mess when you're first learning it, but eventually it becomes very similar to seeing keywords like flying and reach and just knowing what those mean when seeing them.
    Admittedly though, there are some ideas that could easily be portrayed by keywords like Hard Once per turn (HOPT) effects and flipping a monster face down (book).
    They would be a bit confusing at first, sure, but "target a face up monster; book that monster." Takes up less space than "Target a face up monster; set it face down in defense position."

      I like these styles of effect, but they can lead to some wonky interactions. Like you can’t redirect a counter spell to itself, but you can redirect it to Deflecting Swat itself.

    Thassa's Oracle. They think it belongs in a fun casual commander deck but really it's supposed to stay in a binder.

    Sphinx the second son and I was just as guilty as anyone else. I thought that you untapped at the beginning of your post combat main face, but you don't. You untap right before your end step.

      Sphinx’s wording is so awful and confusing, I genuinely wonder how that text box came to print haha

    I've been victim of Decimate targeting me for all its targets several times, can I count these as misplays lol (not casted by myself, someone else)

    Myriad landscape can however hit gates if they are considered a basic in deck such as with rootpath purifier ;) food for thought ❤

      The Rootpath Purifier synergy is pretty cute, even if it’s a one-of effect that’s not always going to be activate

    Master Warcraft always gets mis played, you chose what creatures attack, not who they attack. That's a mistake I've seen made a lot

    • @JayoticMTG
      @JayoticMTG  Před 22 dny

      That card’s kind of weird, so many of these types of effects let you choose who gets attacked. But it’s a pre-Commander card, so multiplayer gameplay was definitely not considered lol.

    They probably run it in colorless decks because it still taps for a colorless mana and was reprinted a lot. Yes a Waste would be better if you just need a land BUT wastes have not been printed a lot..

    • @JayoticMTG
      @JayoticMTG  Před 2 měsíci

      Yeah it’s a very accessible colourless land, it’s just useless to colourless decks haha

      Wastes don’t have a land type, they’re just basic lands
