    Beautiful job. You show people how it's possible to live the Good Life for cheap. That's what I'm all about - marrying the economy of means with the richness of results. Putting the stain over various dark/light wood adds complicity. The eye loves complicity. Well done.
    Questions: • Where/how did you get the 4x16 pallets? Was there a cost for the pallets? • You mentioned that you had leftover stain but for those of us who don't, how many gallons of stain does it take? Was it transparent, semi-transparent, or would you recommend solid coverage IF you had to buy it for this project? • Did you lay the gravel base, or was it there already? How much gravel did you use, or how much would you recommend getting for this project? • Did you lay a tarp under the gravel, or would you recommend that it should be under there? • Did you use anything to secure the deck from slipping out of place, IOW did you secure it to the ground? If yes, what did you use? How much did that cost? (For example: 4' X 4' post sunk in cement?) • Of course, I don't know where you live at all but, Did you need a permit? Were the building codes where you live such that you didn't need a permit? [Discussion: I really hate permits. You don't get a product or a service for your money, all you get is their permission to do on your property what you're brave enough to do at your own expense and your own sweat. I consider permits to be legalized bribery. That's why I hate them. I also hate them because it's like they're saying that they're the ultimate owner of your property and therefore you need their permission so they can ensure you don't lower their financial interest in your property. I realize that's a rant but I really do hate it that much.] One dude had an inspector show up on his property, measured everything, told him he was "lucky" bc building code said that if a structure is under 18" off the ground, you didn't need a permit. Otherwise he'd forced the dude to tear it all down. Yeah right!
    Thanks for taking the time to answer so many questions. I do plan on doing this build and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.

      Thanks. I got the pallets for free from a building company called abc they give them away. I purchased the 2b stone probably about 4 tons of the rock I used some of the stone for my shed ramp cost probably $30 per ton. The pallets I put them directly on the stone they are pretty heavy, not going anywhere. Stain was semi transparent you can use solid I probably only use less than 2 gallons, only did on coat though. No permit, didnt need one this is a moveable structure didnt make it permanent with footings for that reason.

      Love love love projects using reclaimed materials! Sure, you can spend over a thousand dollars on deck like the one that was built on a CZcams video sponsored by a big box store, but sometimes all ya need is a low cost deck.
      Especially if it’s not going to be a long term deck sitting in the front of your house for all the world to see (especially your HOA).
      And don’t skimp on quality when it’s an elevated deck where structure and stability really matters. There probably is always some building code for elevated decks and decks connected to houses. Still, in a lot of situations, reclaimed materials is an option.
      I’ve got salvaged lumber from a late 1890s house that I’m using for some projects.

    Hello and blessings to you.
    I built a pallet deck last year for my mom and now I want to do one for myself. I loooove your work…it looks amazing!!! I noticed you did not space the wood to allow wood swelling and/or rain to pass. Kindly and respectful asking…is the wood spacing not necessary when using pallets for decks? I built my mom’s deck with pallets as base then use weatherized wood planks for the decked spaced about a quarter inch apart.

    • @ezcare5075
      @ezcare5075  Před 3 lety

      You should consider spacing it will help to reduce swelling, I didn't do spacing because I had these pallets drying for a long time so I just chose to not space them.

    Good effort! However, two concerns that I didn't see you address: 1.) Sub-terrain Termites coming up from under the ground to attack the non-pressure treated wood, and; 2.) spacing the deck boards to allow expansion and contraction in the weather.

    • @ezlawncare1073
      @ezlawncare1073 Před 4 lety

      Pallet boards aren't perfect so they had enough spaces between them because I didnt remove every single board, so upon reinstalling the spacing wasnt necessary because of the different sizes I was putting on, and these boards wasnt dry all the way so they eventually shrink. Not worried about termites where I live and some pallets does have chemicals

    the new boards you went and bought...what size were they?

    • @ezcare5075
      @ezcare5075  Před 5 lety +1

      Which one of the boards? I didn't buy any boards, everything was pallets broken down, and these pallets I get free from the lumber store. The pallets are 4x16 but you can use the 4x4 pallets and put them togetter.

      @@ezcare5075 oh ok....I thought I heard you say you bought a few boards to fill in. Great job!! I actually have a Blinds company near my house that give away 12 foot pallets...Imsure I have watchedall the pallet deck videos..lol yours is the easiest and eplained well!

      @@kims7150 thanks, I try to get as much detail explained so that others can try to do it themselves. The 12 foot pallets should work, you will have to break down as much pallets to use those boards to fill in the empty spots, and alot of trimming to do, but you can do it. You can buy deck boards from the box store if you dont want to breakdown the pallets and cutting out the nails.

      When you put the pallets on the ground...did you leave the back boards on?

      @ezcare5075  Před 5 lety +1

      @@kims7150 yes, leave them on they help with the strength support. You can also run additional 2x4x16 in between the pallets to create even more strength and nail them down.
