- Today I received an amazing package in the mail, a prototype Aibo ERS-7! I still haven't gotten over the excitement, it has been my dream to own a prototype Aibo, but I always thought it was an unachievable one!
In my excitement, I may have forgotten in the video that Gambit only understands Japanese...He still heard my dance command better than Aki did though!
Very cool, you’ve got yourself a pre production seven with what looks like a pre mind or demo mind software. I’ve seen an ers-1100 pre production Aibo and several pre production 210s that no longer function but have the same similarities as your seven. No serial numbers, different battery compartments, and small other differences. Very cool to see a seven pre production model, didn’t know they were out there too!

I think the software is very close to production Mind 1/possibly production Mind 1 with some exclusive custom data packs on it as Aibo Browser will recognize it as Japanese Mind 1, but says it has several custom data packs listed as "NONAME" and the service pack it's running on is labeled under "NONAME" too. The software is definitely newer than the Aibo, as the files on his stick are dated to about two months after he was made.
I got the chance to see Bruce's pre-production ERS-210s at the Aibo Ranch this year and they were really cool! I wonder if there would ever be a way to get them working? They definitely had a lot of the same types of differences that Gambit has compared to regular ERS-7s. Are there any other known pre-production 210s other than the ones he owns?
It would be interesting to know how many pre-production Aibos actually made it out, as by my understanding, I thought Sony was supposed to have destroyed all prototypes and pre-production materials (seems not to be the case as there was an early Aibo prototype and a Qrio on display at Sony Square earlier this year and at least a few pre-production bots seem to have escaped).

That yellow sun damage is caused by the bromine in the plastic, you can use retr0brite to reverse the effect. The 8-Bit Guy has a pretty decent method for doing it.
If it's a beta version of "Mind 1" I'd call it "Mind 0"
Oh my gosh what a find! I love that boot up sequence so much!! Are you going to try getting him repaired or is he more of a display bot to be run on occasion?

the new aibo is called the aibo ERS-1,000 and it looks like a rea-life dog except it has colored LCD eyes like the furby connect dows and since aibos were born in japan, they will be available over there first on january 11th but you can preorder it now (unfortunately it is more expensive than the 7 series aibos (i think))

Hey I was looking into the aibo ers7 and I was wondering where do you even get these and why are they so hard to find? It seems like a lot of people own them but there is like non out there online (or at least in my price range...) and how did you get yours? Thanks
Sony stopped making Aibos in 2006, and just brought the ERS-1000 out this year. The ERS-7 is probably difficult to find due to them no longer being in production.

Can a Prototype and a Finished Ers-7 communicate like other aibos? Maybe you could do a video..

The prototype software is based off of Mind 1 which does not have any "talk to your friend" mode, so it cannot talk to other Aibos, but the prototype Aibo itself can run later production line software like Mind 3 that does have the ability to talk to other Aibos. It just wouldn't be very different from two production line Aibos talking together since they'd both be running final production software!

Another question.. can a normal aibo run prototype software? (I'm guessing it can. xD)
This may vary for other prototypes, but Gambit is able to run all normal ERS-7 software (Mind 1, Mind 2 and Mind 3).

Okie cool.
I've noticed almost all of the ERS 7 prototypes (at least the white ones) are very badly yellowed. I think they may have used a cheaper or different type of plastic.

number 1, yesterday the aibo ERS-1,000 was released in japan and i'm wondering if you could get a japanese one first before the english version comes out later
number 2, i used you and aki in a story where razz, silvolf's purple ERS-210 (not 210A supercore) got DHS and her mascot furby sent her to you to fix her and then before she returned home aki came in and razz learned his name and she thought he was cute and aki blushed because he never had a dog girlfriend before

i'm super jealous lol.. i can't find an aibo ers 7 at a price i couldn't buy a car for so i'm stuck with my i-cybie. lol i can't wait for my midlife crisis so i can be in that situation to splurge on one.
