I like to think that a modern remake would have Sam passing by and liberating Alien worlds that have been "cast down" by Mental as punishment for defying them, primarily by sending their inhabitants back to the stone-age so-to-speak and then manifesting their worst Enemies to torment them forever, in the case of this particular world, Dragons, the ancient Enemies of the planets inhabitants. This could also explain why Mental has such varied types of Monsters serving them. If they did it to Earth, for example, Humanity would be getting tormented by Vampires, Werewolves, Undead, Mythological Monsters and Demons manifested by Mental to torture Humanity as an eternal punishment.
