Sitting in the train, listening (and watching) with headset. I notice that the guy next to me seems to pick up the groove, cause when Tommy starts playing he starts to tap his foot. While texting on his phone. So he is clearly not aware of if. music AND Tommy is magical :-)
Tommy told us to play base note first. So, following that should I play the fourth string(root D note) first? If so, which note should I play after that? What am I trying to say is while I'm holding the traditional D chord with my left hand, should I play with my right thumb like this sequence, (4th-6th-5th-4th....). Your reply is much appreciated. Thank you so much
Tommy is amazing. I was fortunate to set about 20' away in a concert in State College ,PA . My friends asked if I picked any secrets up-I said " No he was moving too fast for me" !
I wonder who those two people are that put their down votes on every TE video out there :P Probably just one guy with two accounts. Wonder what made him like that. Thanks for these great uploads btw!

Hi Tommy, basics aside, do you only wear a thumb pick and use your bare nails on the rest of your fingers or do you wear picks on all your fingers. I never got on with them about 25 years ago. Have they improved so that I might value them when playing on a steelstrung guitar finger style.?
My question is, is he muting the bass notes with his left hand or a light rest with the right? I can't tell, and can't figure it out myself, anyone care to help?
Master the basics and you'll have the foundation to master the advanced. or Don't cheat on the basics and you'll master the mastery or If you can't enjoy mopping the deck, you'll never get invited into the party!!
If a true beginner wants to play like Tommy Emmanuel, they'll have to work really hard for a long time. Tommy is a teacher for intermediate at the earliest.
He has probably collapsed a years' curriculum into a video. It starts with the first steps, the "boom chick" with the thumb, and the n gets more complex. As he says, "one bite at a time."

Me too, 40 years, a lot of Tommys stuff is still work!!
Can you explain me how should I play traditional D chord with my thumb only?
@@jubayermufid1710 Right thumb picks bass, and rythm, left thumb could help on neck by fretting the f#, whilst the other fingers make a "d" chord.

I have a feeling you won't get a reply from Tommy. However, he doesn't use fingerpicks. Or nails. Just thumb pick and bare fingers.

As much as I like him, I don't believe Tommy has taught a true beginner in a long time. Do you?
