simply by being aware of the situations that gave your inner child pleasure and safety in the past you can guide the inner child more towards the discovery of the future without risking to upset the child.
one of the main reasons that makes us upset is because we get confused, if this confusion continues we can begin to doubt ourselves and even allow hate and shame to build a wall that separates the beginning of hope from the world of life:
we can begin to live in a façade of our own fear.
We can break this wall by being interested in the things that confuse us.
