In both games bullets travel super slow and will fly straight for 700 meters or so before they get magnetized to the ground. I think WLs has easy to understand and good ballistics, "bullet go down after 100 meter" (for 762, 556, and a few others at least) basically, after 200~ that drop increases exponentially, in Breakpoint I fire 762 that shit is in the ground before 100 meters while aiming straight in a field.

Some Wildlands encounters, especially once Unidad reinforcements rock up, can be epic battles for survival. I do feel that infiltrating a Breakpoint facility can be much harder than in Wildlands. Something fun in Wildlands is that you could steal faction vehicles and not be detected.
We played co-op and my friend stole a Santa Blanca vehicle, I stuck a bunch of C4 to it, and he drove it right into the base undetected and parked next to the generator lol. He went stealth mode and started killing guys, when he eventually got detected, I denoted the C4, the base went dark, called rebels, motor, etc.
Wildlands combat was absolute mayhem and fun. One of the few games where when you blow stealth, it doesn't feel like you have to reset and try again, because going loud was just as fun. You could be really creative using faction vehicles, rebels, etc. and have a lot of random chaotic moments.

I've played around with the spartan mod and most of your gunfights have longer distance from each other. The spartan mod doubles the engagement distance and the detection range so I'm having a lot of tree line fights. The mod really leans into the "the hunter is hunted" theme that ubi was initially going for. The mod also extends most gun's range so there's less of the sudden drop off for bullets in the vanilla version. Supersonic rounds and supersonic rounds now also play a roll as firing a suppressed AR in the base will put them in an alert phase while subsonic rounds are quieter but is still pretty loud. Overall I really recommend the spartan mod to anyone who wants a sorta arcadey mil-sim sandbox shooter.

  • @bradbowers963
    @bradbowers963 Před rokem +150

Pretty much agree with all of your points on both games. However, Breakpoint is the superior game for me. Wildlands was fun for it's time but feels dated now. The customization of gameplay styles in Breakpoint is fantastic and contributes heavily to it's longevity for me. A few things I miss from Wildlands are the Unidad mechanic, the rebel support, and the livelier environment but those aren't enough to put the game over the top for me though. Here's a playstyle I developed in Breakpoint if your interested. It's good for the "Survivor Mode/Lone Ghost" players.
    - Start an new game on Immersive Mode with Extreme Difficulty. No HUD or very limited HUD. One primary weapon, few bandages, injuries on high.
    - DO NOT select any Class or skills. Zero. So, no Parachute or Night Vision throughout the entire game and extremely limited crafting.
    - No vehicle spawning or fast travel (unless your stuck in the map). If you want to fly a Helicopter you have to steal one. Same for vehicles. Also, all vehicles have fuel or power. Ranging from 5-10 minutes depending on the vehicle. Small helicopter is 5 mins. Bigger one is 10, for example.
    - AI Teammates. If you want to use AI Teammates you first have to "rescue" them from Wolf Encampments that are holding Outcasts.
    - You can only change your weapons and gear at Erewhon (via their 3D printer and supplies) or stuff you've taken off dead Wolves, Sentinels, and Outcasts. Weapons, backpacks, vests, clothes, etc.
    - Dress for the weather. T-shirts, tank tops, and rolled up sleeves when its warm, jacket, scarves, and gloves for the cold, etc.
    - Crafting can only be done in Erewhon or a bivouac. If you run out of bandages during a firefight...oh well.
    - Backpacks. If your using a backpack you have access to your entire inventory. If you're not wearing one you only have access to what's on your inventory wheel. So plan accordingly if you want to sneak into a base with an ultra low profile.
    - Food. This is optional really. You can eat and drink at a bivouac for that extra bit of immersion.
This style requires a LOT of discipline to say the least. It can be very tempting to break the rules at first but after a while it becomes more natural and you may end up restricting yourself more, like only being able to steal a helicopter if there is a Bagman on the base that has the "keys" and you'll need to kill him first! ;)

The no class chosen idea is super dope. I just got onto that same vibe starting a new game last week. Typifies the class as “Soldier” by-default. I appreciate the actual gameplay restrictions this style implies. The no HUD gets to be a problem for me when some weapon crates don’t actually display what’s inside them (which is a bug) and it says is to take the weapon or dismantle them. And the fickle context of Allied commands, alongside untying prisoners, who are next-to devices to investigate etc. And getting-into vehicles is still harder than it should be because the context windows of their functions appeared overlapped. And the objective markers to talk to people and complete missions. Should’ve given everyone a radio, stop wasting time to globetrot for boring cutscenes. Lol. If only they made things just a little tighter.. like all the laser pointers that were never zeroed to the crosshair.

    • @HomeDefender30
      @HomeDefender30 Před rokem +47

How wildlands sets up the story, the missions, and the cutscenes is definitely infinitely better than breakpoint. Breakpoint was a jumbled mess and gave me out of context cutscenes with spoilers shortly after recovering from the helicopter wreck… it was a confusing and frustrating start to the game until I realized what was actually being triggered and how… but by that point the damage was already done and parts of the story already ruined.
Breakpoint handed out quests and missions MMO style whereas wildlands felt like a natural and WELL EARNED progression.
Wildlands world is also way more “alive” then breakpoints…. Moving through the big cities and starting fire fights around all those civilians really added an entirely different dynamic than breakpoint can offer…. Yeah they have some non combatants in breakpoint but not nearly at the same scale…. It’s world is empty, and pretty much anything you come across that’s moving is ok to shoot.
Gameplay, gunplay, graphics all go to breakpoint, but wildlands isn’t far enough behind to make that the determining factor in my opinion…. To me wildlands is definitely the superior all around game.

  • @kebabit707
    @kebabit707 Před 7 měsíci +7

9 months late but i honestly can't really choose
i've always had this discussion with my friends about "do you prefer wildlands or breakpoint" and, at first, i will always say wildlands just because the world feels more alive. your AI teammates and their conversations, the civilians driving around the map, the unidad patrols and then getting into a max unidad reinforcement fight for your life is always awesome. calling in mortars on them while rebel reinforcements arrive to help you, it feels great
the stealth being 1 hit kills imo doesn't matter too much, because the idea of having to shoot, say, 10 rounds in my 30 round mag to kill 1 dude, and there's 5 of them in an area, isn't very fun to me because it means i'd have to wait for them to split up, into much more inconvenient areas, then take the remaining ones out and even THEN, risk getting spotted due to the gun making considerable noise even with suppressors
the animations in breakpoint to me also feel like shit - your character doesnt turn with your camera when walking, when prone this means you cant aim between your legs which also looks and feels pretty cool, the jogging animation in breakpoint feels VERY stiff and linear, as far as i can remember you also can't slow walk in breakpoint like you can in wildlands, you can't holster your gun, it just feels alot more boring and stiff, as if they couldn't afford to get better/more animations
character customization - i'd say breakpoint wins, not much to say there, but in both games it seems the majority of character models are asian/asian-americans which is a little strange, not in any racist way, just feels odd how there's like 1 or 2 character models that don't look like asians, not alot of variety imo
the missions in breakpoint also feel so fucking confusing to me. wildlands you have all the missions for all the different bosses in their respective province, but the missions come in a linear format, and i'm pointed TO MY MISSION. in breakpoint, not only are there seemingly 1 OR MORE main missions (my own experience), they're not really province specific, it's not like you go to [province], finish all the missions there, then go to the next province repeat. not to mention the fact that there's a damn HIDE AND SEEK MINIGAME? hello?? "[X] is in [Y] province to the northeast of [obscure landmark]"
    now for some game mechanics
prone camo (breakpoint) - absolute win for breakpoint, feels awesome to pull off properly
thermal imaging drones/helicopters (breakpoint) - fucking annoying. hate them, i'm on my way up a god damn mountain and i'm in such a spot that i cant really prone or prone camo, so i'm fucked
unidad patrols (wildlands) - alot of fun, relatively easy to avoid but fun to shoot down and can lead to some cool shootouts with unidad and rebels
classic helicopter controls (wildlands) - i prefer these over new so much more, guns become challenging to use, sure, but that's the fun part, AND flying with them looks and feels cooler and smoother

Neither are perfect and I've been on this topic myself because I've been a huge fan of wildlands. Breakpoint was jarring.
It felt like wildlands had more character, charisma, ambience and overall fun. It was way prettier, the character were dynamic and unique, Sueno was a boss. Breakpoint didn't really feel as immersive and rural as Wildlands did. It felt like I was in a rainforest in Wildlands, it just felt like random scenery in breakpoint. The stealth was in my opinion way better in wildlands, as were the weapons.
Pros about breakpoint: Holt is in there, the main antag was compelling...robots are kinda cool, as are the mud interactions. rpgs are something i wanted in wildlands.
Overall, Wildlands just had a soul.

Hoping the next GR takes the best elements from both games and improves significantly, maybe bring in some Ground Branch style customization for vest or helmets. They could seriously go all out, especially with the way how Ubi devs finally are able to have control over their games now and aren't being 100% controlled by greedy higher ups. Depending on if Assassins Creed Mirage is what fans are wanting, it could prove that Ubi is becoming what they once were. I'm hoping for that, but Ubi has been way too disappointing almost the whole past decade which is crazy to think about.

Really ever since the 360/PS3, Ubi has been shaky. Tom Clancy brand especially. GRAW, Future Soldier, and Vegas were fine but a far cry from the original Ghost Recon or the first three Rainbow Six games. Double Agent was a great Splinter Cell game, everything since has been bad or mediocre. Breakpoint and Wildlands are at least somewhat faithful to the original vision of the series, Ghost Recon fans have had it the best.

@irvinglambert9316 I thought Splinter Cell: Conviction (and even Blacklist after) was the last really good Ubi Tom Clancy stealth, apart from Ghost Recon. Both Wildlands and Breakpoint to an ever greater degree bring me back to those times when stealth felt good, and satisfying. The only other time I got the same feeling was playing Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain

@@gabrielgiron4273 Splinter Cell is my favorite series. If you've never played the earlier games, I could understand that perspective. Conviction is barely a stealth title, more a Jason Bourne/Mel Gibson revenge movie on bath salts. Story decisions in that game really messed up the series. Blacklist is okay, and tries to make the Conviction style systems work. Just doesn't compare to what came before. Reason the series is doormat is because those two games didn't leave the series anyway to go. Series would be in a much better place if it built off of Double Agent.

Picturesque, diverse, captured by a drug cartel. and something is constantly happening, people are busy with their own affairs, go to the market, dry coca, listen to music and dance. Cars are constantly driving. Anyway, the world is alive, it's dead in the breakpoint. 9:35 "...Breakpoint built to be more of a stealth game...Wildlands is more of the typical Ghost Recon experience..."
I'd def agree (for the most part) with this^. Whenever I try to play Breakpoint in a classic "Ghost Recon" way, I always end up just subconsciously reverting to a "Splinter Cell" type of playstyle...which I mean isn't necessarily a bad thing (Splinter Cell being my fav Ubisoft franchise); but, I wish Breakpoint would encourage/strong-arm me into a more squad-based tactical shooter playstyle/mindset, especially in a way like GRAW2 does to this day. Speaking of GRAW2...
12:43 "...in Wildlands it's a much clunkier experience...every game will get clunkier as it ages...Wildlands is like 7 years old now...even when you look at GRAW1 or 2...still a great time"
I've yet to put in a good chunk of time in Wildlands (its been a few years now, under 20 hours played), but from what I've seen from ur vids and from my time played, I'd say the movement and animation from Wildlands (and even Breakpoint) are WORSE than GRAW2's (maybe also GRAW1's) Single-player movement/animation; HOWEVER, both games feel on-par, if not better, than GRAW2's multiplayer movement/animation (as the multiplayer for GRAW2 was worked on from a different branch of Ubisoft, or dev entirely).

I overall prefer wildlands, after having played all of both's content. I just think the setting and environments of Bolivia pulled me in way more than Aurora and all the superclean techy aesthetic with all these drones everywhere. I also think it's more interesting to try to cross a town to get to an intel cache with random civilians wandering around, making picking out the sicarios more difficult. The whole "martial law, everyone stay indoors" story beat in Breakpoint REALLY hamstrings the experience when you know EVERYONE not in a warehouse is going to be a hostile combatant. There's never a reason to confirm targets, just shoot anything on two legs.
I do still think the other mechanics in Breakpoint are a flat upgrade, minus the AI. The injury system, inventory, prone camo, etc, are basically flat upgrades. My ideal game would be plot/setting/aesthetic/world and mission design of Wildlands, but with some of the more notable features of Breakpoint. I want the camo and the injury system but I want the AI to be more aggressive like it was in Wildlands. In Breakpoint the enemies are super passive. In Wildlands, if you sit still for a couple of seconds, the cartel members will RUSH you. It makes it more intense and difficult in Extreme difficulty. In Breakpoint you can just hang back most of the time and be fine. Hell, the few times the enemies DO try to actually go after you and throw a grenade or something catch you so off guard because its so rare.
Also I don't really care for the Class system in Breakpoint. It's barely noticeable in gameplay besides your main skill, and I think it's overall needless. I think what I'd do instead is limit the maximum number of skill points the game gives you so you can't just blanket get every skill. Use the skill tree system with limited skill points to make players specialise in their own "classes" so to speak. Allow for presets/respec and you have a system that doesn't have class restricted abilities but still allows players (and those in co-op) to specialise in specific "roles" so to speak. Or you can go for a more "jack of all trades" approach and put skill points evenly. Decent in everything but not excelling in anything specific. I think that would work better.

One thing I'd like to point out is that Breakpoint has "Always-Online DRM", which means the game will cease to function entirely whenever they stop supporting it with their servers. I looked it up and it seems that Ubisoft has mentioned their "attempts" at making offline work, but they essentially gave up and said it wouldn't work (which I think is completely false, knowing Ubisoft and big tech), however they have since improved PvE mode with its connection issues. If you're looking at these games because they're on sale, both go on sale at different times, and both go on sale for around 80%. At the time of me writing this comment, Breakpoint is $12 for the base game and $24 for the Ultimate Edition. Looking at the price history, it seems that Wildlands will be on sale during Steam's Winter sale. So you'll technically be able to buy both games at their most expensive editions, all for the price of what the original base game would be for either of them. I haven't played either yet and I'm new to Ghost Recon as a series, but this is just the information I have gathered thus far.

Breakpoint story was cool if it was executed well but Wildlands is so more realistic as I feel like I’m in Narcos or Sicario but Breakpoint it’s weird. I hope they combined what makes both good and make a more lively world and smarter AI Teammates.
Issue I had with both: Wildlands felt to clunky and the character skeleton and the way clothes fit on the body was odd to me and I didn’t like the small variety I saw myself wearing the skins more and singular outfits more, Breakpoint felt to empty with all the tech around and the apparent no fly zone I found myself FLYING to every location cause the world was just to empty, civilian design was bland and location felt empty even when there was people they felt more like props than actual people living on the island and the mixed of indigenous architecture and modern was neat but i didn’t see the point of it since we see no natives and everyone dresses like they are from Panera, and the faces, wish there was better diversity cause what we got looked like potato and the facial hair/hair option should’ve been touched up, the fact they started the game with no team Ai and when they add them like some big thing they too play like potato. Combat was peak but hard to natural have every immersive play through felt forced because there simply wasn’t any link of government involvement besides the ghost being there wish we would get debriefs in detail of the people instead of having to play Clue and look every corner of the map to find

A large elite force (there is one recoverable message where Walker comments on his backers wanting at least 200 Wolves trained - at a $million per Wolf). I felt the game should have had you constantly at risk if you stayed too stationary for too long with only Erewhon or the Bivouacs being safe.

the main problem that i hated in Breakpoint is that your character personalization wasn't as much and when you went into a safe room your guy took his helmet off and broke the immersion from being a unknown solder and trying to keep your face covered to here's bob so if you wanna betray him you know what he looks like. The cut-screens ruined my immersion in game forcing my character to remove his helmet i like having my helmet and full face mask keep my identity private im behind enemy lines. The world felt so empty i would drive for 5 km and feel bored vs wildlands i had radio and i had civilians and stuff and shit on the road the world felt alive and i would stop to take photos and put them on my steam artwork page. for me the perfect Tom Clancy game: the world of wildlands and the AI and the character customization in terms of voice lines and skin color male to female all those rpg type elements of character customization and having that custom character keep his uniform on fully in cutscenes while having the gun play and customization from breakpoint the art style the camos the uniforms the detail but non of the weapon leveling and gear score stuff that ruined immersion even more.

While I loved wildlands, and am enjoying Breakpoint too. I have to say that I prefer Breakpoint over Wildlands. I mean I loved the setting in wildlands and enjoyed the more bombastic gameplay, but I am a huge fan of Breakpoints "Outnumbered, Outgunned, and Alone" feel and the gameplay in Breakpoint is a bit more polished. I also loved the heavy SciFi setting as I am also a fan of STALKER and Roadside Picnic which Breakpoint has definitely been influenced by.

I bought both at the same time about a week ago, played wildlands first since everyone recommends it. I honestly find myself more immersed in breakpoint, from the movement to the stealth to the combat. I even felt the story was better. The enemies have conversations with each other, call-outs, it just feels gritty and fun.

what most people forget to mention when comparing the 2 games, in wildlands you are always orogressing and always have a reason to do all of the content, you got rebel ops, resource grinding, skill points, basic levels and tier one, breakpoint doesnt havr anything like that and once i bought a weapon and all the cosmetics i wanted i had no use for skell creds and they are rewarded everywere, it felt like after a few hours i had no real reason to do most of the content(bear in mind i did play with gear level turned off) and even with gear level on, gear grinding doesnt compare to the wildlands progression

Excellent breakdown of both games, you covered all the points that matter to most of us. Breakpoint is a great game, it's feel is so much better than Wildlands, better weapons, better clothing, better weapon upgrades etc...even love the classes to be honest although, Pathfinder over all! Wildlands story and general immersion is king though, Breakpoint feels like a ghost island, Wildlands feels like a land that's lived in.
Overall though, Breakpoint is the game i'll play when I want to shoot shit, it's simply more fun for me.....just wish we could combine the best of both lol...maybe one day. Great vid Thunder, enjoyed the comparison. :)

A very interesting "take" on both games. For me, on a PC w/ KB/M, Breakpoint doesn't feel as smooth, not when every two seconds in CQs or in a forest or amongst rocks, I'm getting stuck to an object. The worst being when attempting to quickly get in a vehicle to drive off - nope - stick to that darn door ... ATST in Wildlands yes indeed moving among objects or crouching isn't smooth either.
Was surprised by the comments regarding sniping and distances in the two games - GRW with its horrible bullet drop is a huge disappointment, while in GRB it's actually doable to engage with long distance (game-wise) sniping.
My bottom line between the two doesn't come down to gameplay (as I'm still playing both on a regular basis) but to the fact with GRW I can play off-line and not required to be hooked up to Ubisoft's servers for solo play with GRB. That's a very big plus in my book! :)

If they find a way to take the best from both worlds most FPS will have a problem keeping up.
If they find a way to make the CQC more like Division or RB6 Vegas then it would be unmatched.
Everything else seems to be in a league of it's own which is good. But indoors should be a little more tactical like stack, breach and clear etc.

Not just walk through doors ways without doors or sliding doors

Yeah I think breakpoints driving mechanics in wildlands would be a treat. Wildlands has the best map of any video game in my opinion its criminally underated. Also both games have one feature that annoys me, why does the character move so slowly whilst your aiming down sights. Be better if you made haste whilst aiming kinda like snake does in metal gear 5.
