Yes, I used to plant truckers favorite non GMO corn for both my consumption and livestock and if nitrogen is available
During all phases of the growing season and moisture is adequate it'll grow very tall and produce a large crop of ears

I really liked this one, too. Memories! Riding in the wagons. "Surfing", or what we called surfing... The huge, flat hay wagon beds became super slick and polished from years of hay bales being drug'd across the hardwood. Add a little hay chaff and you could truly "surf" as the wagons were hauled to and from the fields on bumpy dirt roads. We had skills! (or so we thought) And the corn cribs. Endless corn cobs for making corn cob pipes stuffed with tobacco salvaged from cigarette butts -- left on the garage floor! (tobacco wasn't harmful in the 60s. It was recommended by doctors in the commercials) LOL! Our corn never suffered from mice. We had resident King snakes. Several lived in the corn cribs. You want to see a farmer go Nuclear? Just kill one of his snakes. I never thought to ask about mice in the winter. Snakes hibernate...

Nice to know about leaving schucks on even in dry Saskatchewan. I have a small city plot and will be planting the crimson clover I bought to plant a fun garden. In it I ordered gem glass corn to plant. So excited for spring. Too cold here over winter to plant crimson clover. As early as possible in the spring my clover is going in. 🤓

My neighbor had a manual shucker I guess you would call it. You put the ear of corn down in it and crank the wheel by hand and it would peel every bit of the corn off the cob. That old thing works great and I help him run a bunch of corn through it.

The only way you'll get a crib mouse-proof is to line it with #4 hardware cloth and tack a strip over the edges, otherwise you are going to have a bigger problem with mold.
