Using soap to mark fabric is literally genius!
Loved your mini bolt of cloth ...even though I’ve been sewing for 40 odd years I learnt something new...sewing the elastic together! 🥴😂💐
Same here!
Pockets 😍 best tutorial, so clear, so concise, warm and confidence building. Thank you.
Thanks for showing visually about the fabric in the bolt. I’m a newbie beginner sewer and I learned a lot from watching you! ❤️🪡🧵✂️
I love this skirt! I have trawled the internet looking for a pattern for a skirt like this, without success. This is wonderful; thank you, Laura! 😊😊😊
I learned so much with this video~ I’ve never sewn garments but your explanations made it so not intimidating! Love your fabric & color choice. Thank you for the instruction and inspiration ❣️👍
In the past I did a lot of garment sewing...so it is nice to get motivated to sew something besides quilting
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been wanting to make my own summer skirts but patterns just seem to complicated! I'm saving this video so I can make this skirt.
What did you use to pull the elastic through the waistband?
Thanks!
I just had a great idea for elastic. Buttonhole elastic (as you find in most toddler pants) should be great for fluctuating sizes like bloating or just weight loss or gain!
I love this skirt. The soft ration fabric, the pockets, the length and the color, all make it perfect. Wonderful and beautiful Laura. Thank you.
Thank you Laura. Your instructions are so clear and your positivity is lovely. I look forward to your projects and am sewing again.
Thank you for your video - I do not sew really at all and was able to make a cute skirt to go with a theme for an upcoming event fairly easy! And with pockets!
I really like your style...very easy to follow for me. Thank you very much!
Love it! Beautiful hue, lovely skirt! As always thanks for your clear and easy to understand tutorial. I’ll be sewing this skirt using rayon material.
Thanks Laura so much for this tutorial. I have just sewn up two of these at around knee length and they are perfect thanks to your easy to follow instructions. Fabulous!
I really like the pocket sewn into the waistband. No saggy pockets!
This is fantastic. My grandmother has gifted me her old serger and sewing machine and this will definitely be my first garment for myself. This mimics Sag Harbors skirts (which are my all time favorite) and they're so hard to find. Love this so much.
Excellent instructions! I have been sewing for a long time but can always learn something new, and I like how you 'grabbed' the top of the pockets and sewed them into the waistband for a very neat finish. Thanks for creating a great video!
Excellent video and methodology for making a skirt with pockets! Thank you sew much! What a simple way to construct it...
Thank you for this video. My first decent skirt made ever.... and I'm 63, so never too late to learn. You Tube is a wonderful thing.
Love rayon batiks for apparel, drapes so nicely with a soft feel. Beautiful fabric you used. Love this skirt, thanks for sharing and I want to make this for myself. Looks so comfy!
Another beautiful Skirt. Love those pockets. Skirts are my favourite. Thank you. 🇨🇦❤️
This looks “sew” easy that I can hardly wait to run out and buy some rayon fabric and sew up several skirts! And with pockets! Excellent video! Thank you so much!
You do the best tutorials. You keep any chitchat to a minimum and the instructions clear and concise In the words of Sgt. Friday. Only the facts Ma’am. Thank you
I love your tutorials because you explain everything so clearly and in layman's terms. Thank you 🙏
❤ love this...I have been trying to make a skirt but its been hard for me. Your teaching method was very good and easy to follow. Thank you.
Wow, I always wanted to make my own long skirts and you make it look so easy. Your explanation is simple enough for me to want to give it a try. Thank you!
You explain things so clearly. I love this skirt and I will have to use some of the rayon in my stash to make one. Thank you.
Thank you, thank you for this video. Thanks for explaining everything as you go along. You have a gift for teaching.
Wow! I love the fabric and you made it look so easy that I'm going to save your video to make one for summer! God bless you!!
This is the best tutorial I have seen to make this type of skirt. I can’t wait to try it.
Oh my gosh, I just subscribed to your channel!! If all your videos are this well done, I will be coming back for more! So excited to try out the skirt.
Laura your videos are so well presented and easy to follow. I am in the first stages of sewing a skirt (from a pattern I had made) when I came across your video. While my pattern is a bit more shaped at the waist, I think I can just follow your wonderful instructions for everything (even the pockets!). I have about a meter and a half of fabric left and am now thinking that a blouse would be a great go-with to be able to wear as a dress or an overblouse with a tank top to extend its versatility. Thank you for sharing this - your method greatly simplifies the sewing process which we all appreciate!
Excellent way to explain things. I am an experienced seamstress, but I learned something new with the sewing the ends of the elastic together!
You explain SO patiently and thoroughly - I really appreciate it! Also your voice is perfect for instruction. Watching these makes me totally remember and honour my grandmother who had her own sewing school. Thank you!
thank you
She's correct about that pocket, I made a skirt, with a pocket, and the pattern was very hard to understand.
She's very knowledgeable.
Beautiful skirt and beautiful fabric. Thank you for the great tutorial. I now know how to sew pockets to my skirts.
This is a brilliant tutorial and exactly what I need for my next project! Your pocket method is a lot easier that what I had planned, so thankyou!
omg i cant wait to get paid so i can buy some more fabric lol. awesome job Laura!
Thank you. I bought some material from a second hand store and made this skirt. So much fun. And great instructions.
I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR YOUR WONDERFULLY EASY AND PRETTY RESULTS
FROM YOUR INSTRUCTIONS!
Thank you so much!!!! I followed this to make a skirt for a medieval festival on a time limit. Made it in two days! Ended up having to make the waist band much smaller once it was on, as I think the weight of the fabric stretched it out a bit, or maybe it just needed more tightness to keep it up (both front and back were 54" each, as I wanted it really nice and full). Looks beautiful and is very comfortable. Thanks for the easy to follow tutorial!
Love the material you picked out!
An excellent tutorial , Laura! Pockets can be tricky to explain... thank you for all your posts.
Love sewing projects..especially beginners..cant wait for next sewing lesson!
Very cleverly done! Thank you for creating the mini example for us to follow. It made the project clear and undaunting.
Thank you, you’re so easy to listen to and learn from! My dream is to be able to make all of my clothes how nice would that be!
This was the best instructions for this skirt. best pockets I ever made, thank you!!
Love rayon,,great tutorial on making a comfortable warm weather skirt, your explanations are very easy to follow…Thank you
I made it last night! I love it. I've never sewn with Rayon before and it was a little slippery but I got there. Thank you for sharing this tutorial. I never knew that Rayon was a natural fabric. I wish I knew more about the different types of fabrics used for clothing. At any rate thank you again.
I love wearing rayon. It makes the best Hawaiian shirts and if course, skirts.
Wow! Thank you so much! This is perfect! I've put on quite a bit of weight since the lockdowns. So I've decided to sew my own skirts. As an absolute beginner, I don't even know where to start. Now I know :D
I love how you made the pockets - I must do that next time I make a flowing summer skirt. You showed everything so clearly.
I look forward to seeing what you’re going to make next time in the sewing room.
Thank you ms Laura. Correct fabric is important and I'm not always aware of which to use. So and thanks. And great video
Outstanding instructions! Thank you so much for teaching us in such a clear and concise way!
Awesome, project, to the point, simple instruction!
I have always wanted to sew a skirt. Thank you for the excellent tutorial! It now seems sew very easy!
Hello, my name is debbie I live across the pond in the UK, I stumbled across your site by accident and what a good accident it is. I have found some lovely rayon cloth for sale it is really cheap off ebay I have read up about rayon and other people say that it is not a good fabric to use it creases does not allow to sweat very easy etc. Unfortunately I am in a wheelchair I like to make my clothes I get them to fit better and I can make them to my shape I want to make a flowing skirt and now I can with your help from this tutorial I can make exactly what I want and dont have to line it another plus, having not used it before I was not sure if I had to put a lining in it. You have made my day thank you very much I have subscribed to your channel so I can see what else you like to make and what other tips I can pick up bestest regards a very happy Debbie from uk xxxxxxxxx
welcome :)
I love the way you explain things! I'm an experienced sewster, but I didn't know about using the little swatch of fabric to connect the elastic ends! Cool! I'm making a skirt for Ren Faire and I love the pocket idea!! :)
Thank you for this! I really wanted something special to wear to an event coming up and this skirt is the perfect thing!
Thank you for this. I've always wanted to make myself a flowing skirt. However, I like it when they have different colored layers of fabric.
OMG! This tutorial is amazing! Thank you so much! You are such a good teacher and your voice is so soothing! :)
Hi beautiful teacher. I just love your skirt. I just finished stitching a cotton skirt. I love it so much. I followed every step of your tutorial.. I will be making at least 5 more.. Hehehe.. Love you loads for the best skirt design.
Much love and God bless
Thank you. I was wondering if cotton would be too bulky with so much fabric. I am plus size so the fabric will be spread around moreso than someone smaller. I think I will try it. I will wash and dry first as the last skirt I made with a pattern shrunk to a different size.
@@carolg.6838 I m small size. My weight is 52kg n I'm 5'3". The skirt suits me fine. Very comfy infact..
Wow, Thank You for your easy to follow instructions!! I really appreciate it .The camera view was also important and perfectly done!!
Love it! Have to try this for summer!
Love it. Good idea for the summer. Thank you, Laura.
Really love this tutorial. Thank you for sharing.
Wow! You are an Excellent teacher!
Thank you! God Bless you!

You're an excellent teacher! Thank you for your video
WOW! Can't wait to try this. Hope it's as easy as you make it look. :)
I would like to see you make a nice flowing summer dress xx
Love this video, thank you Laura.
So happy to find your chanel, very infornative and useful. Am a new subscriber.
Thank you for this great video. I was wondering if there is a ratio you would suggest for deciding how much fabric you need for the fullness, would it be double the waist measurement?, etc. Was just thinking if I want to use this great tutorial for my granddaughters how much fabric I would need for around their waist. Thanks Laura
I love your tutorials❤
Thank you for a very detailed instructional video.I will try to make this skirt.
Excellent.. thank you Laura xxx
Very pretty, I've made skirts before, but never tried pockets.
excellent tutorial!! I need to make me a bunch of skirts now.
Love it. Thanks. I’m going to try this for summer
Lovely skirt Laura!
I am loving and appreciating the mini example. It helps me so much. I find recently that sewing videos I look up just go right into cutting and don't mention washing? Do I not have to wash before cutting and sewing these days?
I usually follow the rule if it's something that I can wash I do.The reason is is I would rather know what the fabric looks like after washing and that way I'm not surprised after
Thank you for this video. I live in Florida and I find skirts to be much cooler to wear in the summer than capris or pants.
I learnt to day how you joined the elastic together.
That is new to me.never saw that.thanks mum
Excellent teaching! Great video.
I like the look I'm gonna try this look. need to go to my fabric store.
Loved this . It was explained perfectly.😃
