- A powerful winter storm is moving through parts of the U.S. and Canada this weekend, unleashing snow and freezing rain along the East Coast.
The system is sweeping through much of the Northeastern U.S. Saturday, before making its way to Ontario - where several weather advisories are in effect.
The storm is set to hit Atlantic Canada on Sunday and Nova Scotians are preparing for its arrival.
Vanessa Wright reports.

“Atlantic Canada..”. Shows video of Arkansas 🤯
For all we know could have been stock B reel footage from 20 years ago, that's how media entertainment works. It's all entertainment.
Weather all across Canada is unpredictable!! Why is it such a horror when things happen in eastern Canada!?
Thank you. Some common sense!!
Horror? I’m the first to dislike news drama, but this was a pretty low drama piece. Just telling us weather is coming. Get your storm chips ready lol
Tents for Canadians and heated accommodations for the illegals.
They're getting free hotel stays in Niagara falls now for over 6 months. At one point I heard of the approx 8000 hotel rooms in Niagara falls that 2000 of them were being used for illegal immigrants
That doesn’t surprise me. The one thing I will say is that allot of the tent dwellers are drug addicts, they have been given multiple chances at housing and they just can’t hack it.
Foreigners getting nicer accommodations than born Canadians is disgusting though.
Yeh it sure is crazy. A tent protects someone from wind chill but it's still cold enough to kill. Meanwhile Trudeau laps up the sun.
Yeah. On the Canadian taxpayers expense.
Omg I'm so scared help me survive a winter snowfall .
Glad I came to Costa Rica in November.. see you in May Haligonian amigos
We had snow, a few centimeters. It's cold, so it stuck. We're getting rain later today. These forecasts are complete nonsense. Enjoy the winter in your beautiful locale!
This weather comes around every year.. yet.. somehow people forget how to drive in it every year..
You should see the lower mainland of BC, Insane when it snows; too many drive like its spring and hardly anyone has winter tires.
Québec started getting hit tonight and it's freezing now. I'm worried for the homeless since we didn't have the time to prepare since the holidays in a bunch of intervention places
Didn't have time to prepare? Homelessness has been growing for a long time.
Should of approved energy east
@@user-ot6hu4gr2v because most intervention workers were on break before the snow hits... ya know we need a vacation and time with our families too?
What have they been doing , not prepared it the season for all this to happen .. been delayed long enough for excellent preparations.. wow
They say it's unpredictable yet ...happens every year 🤦
Don't know why their freaking out, this has been normal weather since I was a kid 😅 just goes to show how forgetful people are
When you were a kid, there weren't hundreds of people sleeping rough in January.
Knew we were going to get it , it’s Canada with igloos and Eskimo lol
We're getting snow in Canada in January. Well it looks like the carbon tax is really working for us. The Liberal government are geniuses!!
We will see!
NL had a storm on Friday/Saturday. Pretty sure that was the 1st 2024 winter storm for Atlantic Canada?
However, it does seem like there are a bunch of storms queued up to roll through eastern Canada in the coming weeks.
Nova Scotia does a good job preparing for storms like this. Like she said, they do brine and salt "before" the storm. In New Brunswick, we wait till everything ices up and at least 100 cars crash before, they put any sort of de-icing agents. Luckily trans Canada is okay but everywhere else is a gamble... Make sure to have studded winter tires in NB and if you don't have to drive, don't drive...
LOL! Yeah, they always make it sound like it is going to be the Apocalypse! LMAO
Ice Age will start from Canada... Canada has no future
my drive wouldn't suck so bad if it didn't require going down a steep hill to return home from work at night, AND if Fredericton actually cleared and salted the roads properly.
I’m in red deer Alberta and they don’t salt or do anything to the roads..barley get cleaned, takes weeks to normalize..really sad considering my tax dollars should pay for safe drives.
...yeah right! 😂🤣😂🤣
Thank You very much.
What about the rest of Atlantic Canada, like New Brunswick and PEI. Obviously Vanessa of Global news does not seem to know.
NB doesn't exist and since PEI is attached via bridge, they don't exist either.
Hey, we didn't even have snow forecast, it's supposed to turn to rain. The "news" is a joke. Eastern Canada is usually identified as Toronto. And the ignoring of PEI and NB is also ridiculous. It's all a big infotainment show. I think Atlantic Canada needs to separate; we have all we need to survive.
-wow 15cm of snow that 5-6 inches and it make major news ..25 years ago that was a normal winter day now its brace your self for a major winter storm...its just funny to me
We need the snow badly. There have been so many fires this last year, without the blanket of snow forest will burn even more this year. There has hardly been any snow here in Ontario, as far north as Sudbury and North Bay.
You need to stop the arsonists
If you ‘need the snow badly’ in Ontario how does a snowstorm in Atlantic Canada help you? Shouldn’t have skipped all of those geography classes.
@@johntitorii6676you mean climate activists
@@BetteLouWhothe title specifically says Atlantic Canada, and this poster is talking about Ontario. Did you read the title of the video, or reading is a little above your school grade that you finished?
Quite true. It's a pain in the butt to deal with when it's happening but it's necessary all the same.
70kph winds & 15-20cm is normal winter weather here in NS- what is the story here?
no snow, no story, I do not know where they get this snow pictures...
Trying to instill fear.
Reality has become a construct.
Growing up in NL we were warned not to walk on the banked of snow on the sides of the road going and coming from school ,because we could reach the power lines in some areas the snow was plow ed so high .that was back in the 50 and 60
So many homeless people now in Canada because of the high costs. Housing is not being built because of the high cost. Not that easy to try and exsist in Canada, it is no longer an affordable place for most Canadians.
Pray for B.C we have lots of light rain and sun in the coming days +9
Idk where the news gets its info but as of Sunday morning Jan 7/24 there are no weather warning for the Atlantic provinces on the environment Canada weather site.
exactly! and, it is NOT snowing.
So south shore of niva scotia predicted to have alot of snow bit the whole of atlantic canada is preparing?
SADLY TRUCKERS TODAY HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DRIVE IN WINTER. INSTEAD OF SLOWING RIGHT DOWN AND GETTING THERE LATE. THEY SPEED UP AND ALWAYS END UP LIKE THIS!!!
I missed the part in this video about how truckers cause stormy weather.
Well most of the truckers in Canada Come from India. What do you expect?
Halifax City Hall lets people live in tents a few meters away from the door, which is also right in front of an operating historic church, the tents are sandwiched between the two buildings. Obviously camping is not allowed on public property, which that is, but nobody does anything about it. Apparently tax paying citizens have no rights to public areas now because they're entirely covered by illegal campers, who obviously pay no taxes at all. This tells you what kind of Mayor Halifax has, obviously one who doesn't care about the city or its taxpaying citizens whatsoever. His name is Mike Savage, a former Liberal MP, he's been the Mayor since 2012. Apparently nobody else ever runs for Mayor, because how else could he keep being it when there's a homeless encampment right in front of City Hall. It would be the easiest campaign anybody ever had, "I promise to get rid of the homeless encampment in front of city Hall if elected, and I'm not Satan himself", you're elected.
One would think they would be allowed in the church for shelter.
Nobody is stopping "taxpaying citizens" from going to the Grand Parade. I was there a few weeks ago, and the place was calm, quiet, orderly. People were going about their business without trouble. Take the bus downtown and stroll around. You'll be fine.
And, btw, the poorer people are, the more taxes they pay. They pay sales taxes on every cent they spend, and they are forced to spend every cent they can get their hands on just to keep body and soul together.
Have some common human decency.
What if they want to walk on the grass? Oops, bumped into a tent, oops, bumped into another one, repeat about 20 times. And they sure don't pay property taxes. The city doesn't collect sales tax, that's the Province and the federal Government. There's no way that square should have people in tents on it, it's not a campground and it's illegal.@@stoverboo
It’s a polar Snowpocalypse Vortex!
wow... snow
Wow! Snow!
Stay warm
Gosh, I hope those tents don’t blow away while those unfortunate homeless people are at work.
LMAO the news makes a few centimetres out to be a "state of emergency" type of storm. We got storms that would bring anywhere from 30-50 cm at least twice a week when I was a kid. Now we're lucky if we get a storm of 5 cm for an entire month.
Alberta needs to get in line.
We all had a good run with no snow this year folks...maybe next year we will get a snow free canada. Remember there is palm trees on vancouver island. One day i hope to see them on mainland canada
Thank God in Mexico we don't have those problems and these seasons are very pleasant and we see this bad winter season sitting from our sofas with a cup of chocolate 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hello, I live at Hwy 215 we did not get any snow. Really Halifax is under snow?! are you sure we talk about 2024? Where these pictures came from? Even on the weather radar map I cannot see any storm.... In Yarmouth, maybe... To know what weather is we need to use windows...lol
I know, the windows weather is a joke. When I want to know the weather, I go out and look up in the sky, it's way more reliable.
Canada is 3rd coldest country in the world.
Alberta sask and manitoba uqulate yukon nwt are coldest in Canada
That is only because of its immense size. About 1 tenth of its population lives in a temperate climate where winters rarely have snow.
@@rps1689 AKA British Columbia *eye roll*
How are there any car accidents??
Every year we go through this.
It shouldn't be a surprise.
Snow is very new to Canada due to climate change
Im gonna block the highways for more snow 😂
It’s scary seeing those trucks stuck on the bridge facing outwards. Long drop down with the cab going first.
One week ago global was going on about the warm winter and how obviously global warming will cancel winter. What a bunch of special people.
Canada's winters suck. Not exactly a news bulletin.
Welcome to winter 🥶
They shouldn't have gotten rid of the carbon tax on heating oil!! Look at all that dangerous snow!
Any update on Dylan butler that we should know about?
I mean. Finally it snows when it's supposed to
All those Truck "Drivers" need their licenses permanently revoked. Absolutely unacceptable to not know where the brakes are or how to decelerate the vehicle.
What's the big deal, it's Canadian winter. When there are so many people on our roads that never learned to drive in winter conditions, what do expect would happen.
Is that South Park and Spring Garden the encampment? I hope not poor Halifax
The weather network has a hard time forecasting yesterday’s weather, little own tomorrow’s weather!!!!!
Good thing they are postulating about todays weather.....lol
15 to 30 is only a few snow flakes
I can see how a professional trucker would do well to have the right tires and chains on. 😰
we dont chain in NB or NS
so a normal snow fall is coming. Big news
Cool
“Weather in East Coast is unpredictable”, no kiddin’!
"First major storm"
High: +1
Low: -1
The manipulation of temperature increase in the city of Toronto has led to significant job losses, particularly in sectors like snow removal trucks, salt spraying, and truck repair shop.
This isn't even news.
Quick. Fly the pm to Jamaica. Cue storm tax.
its called winter
Yes let it snow ❄️ 😀
I got that exact shovel,I wonder if he stole it
yes he did
Free ice !!! YEEESSSSS!!!!!
Come on people keep it together we been there before...nof... up
Winter was edging this year 💀💀💀
We didn't get any snow
Those tampons in mens Bathrooms could be a bad weather fund for these poor people ..
The weather is beautiful we need disasters
That sounds like global cooling instead of global warming.😂😅
A no snow show, ha.
So, no school?
MotherEarth is beautiful
Snow in us before canada... I love this new world!!!!!
The new clown world you like.?
The fact that you lied to me once does not bother me , it is that i can never believe another word you say that bothers me the most.
Winter in canada, no way? lmao
Good for economy
SNOW! SNOW! SNOW! SNOW! SNOWDAY! 😃😍
For the First Time in Months ☺
Build gomes for them forever instead temporary tent😢
1:33 beautiful eyes
The climate changes every 3 months roughly
...and some folks have a complete lack of education.
you start a story about Atlantic Canada with visual of Arkansas. OMG! Such bad journalism.
Mainlanders always overreact to snow
Climate change histeria coming in soon 😂😂
Surprised Justin hasn't tried to have this news cencored as it doesn't fit his no more snow climate change ( existential threat ) narrative. We all know he has great distain for reality.
I am excited to hear what the authoritative Greta and Gore say about this.
Poor homeless this is unacceptable
Iam in the crap uk weather here is rain all winter we hardly get snow wish it was like that here
@jesuslovesmebut8180 if only ya could do that send us snow I'd love to wake up with 3 foot or more of snow
@@dazzahaywood3298 Snow like that is rare in eastern Canada nowadays. This forecast is not even true, and I'm sitting here in Halifax, with a few centimeters on the ground. It's going to rain later today. BUT, I agree! Slush and sleet is misery, but cold and snowy? You can dress for that, and if people are prepared and have proper shelter, there are magical things about winter and snow... skating on a frozen lake is one of the best. Maybe you should visit Norway? It's very much like Nova Scotia, and maybe more accessible for you. AND they know how to enjoy winter. :)
@jennifermarlow. I'd go anywhere where there's loads of snow the more the better when I was younger we used to get the odd bad winter when nearly all roads was blocked only for a short while I used to love being out in it and still like it now..Norway do have snowy winters not seen much about Norway tho.. maybe I should be lookin closer to home. Cause we sure ain't gonna get snow
Hold on. Didn’t you claim that the world is boiling and the climate crisis caused the earthquake in Japan? Or was that the story about wildfires started by arsonists and careless smokers being the fault of people who heat their homes with fuel oil? No, sorry, that was a different story about sea level rise caused by plastic floating in the ocean and angry orcas attacking sailboats off Portugal. Hard to keep track.
You forgot volcanoes erupting and the hurricanes on the east coast.
@@user-ot6hu4gr2v , yeah, my mistake. That was the story about volcanoes in Iceland (a volcanic island) where they breathlessly reported ‘lava coming up through the ground with smoke and toxic gasses’ as if no one knew what volcanoes were. Then hurricanes arrived “without warning” during hurricane season, obviously the result of 100,000 idiots flying to air conditioned Dubai for COPOUT 28. Praise be to Allah for mainstream media!
Homeless people all over Canada tired of the government we need change
Don’t worry, millions more from the Middle East are on the way to fix Canadastan.

I died on Jarvis St. in Toronto; the good, last night.
Are you in a better place?
The weather will become unforeseen, the weather variations will surprise you, the changes will be a cause for fear, without knowing what is coming, restlessness takes over human beings.
Yeah, we already had a big snow storm in Newfoundland a few days ago so this is a weeee bit inaccurate. I lived in Halifax for 8 years so I’m used to there being a weird big distinction in the news between the 3 Maritime provinces and Newfoundland, with NL always treated like some foreign country that wouldn’t get reported on unless something truly MASSIVE happened, but now they’re just excluding us from Atlantic Canada too, eh? 😂😂😂😂
Didn’t you get the memo? Nothing exists outside of the Halifax area lol
@@cherabulous8007 true 😂🤣
@@cherabulous8007 but the way the news in Halifax ignores the existence of NL is a whoooole other level to how they ignore like NB and PEI. If something kinda news-y happens in NB and PEI, they’ll report it. I saw a lot of pretty lame stories about potholes, wandering lost doggies etc from those places. They also said “maritime provinces” a LOT and didn’t mention Atlantic Canada very much, which ain’t a distinction without a difference cuz NL is notably not part of the maritimes and ohhhh it was obvious they knew that. I swear, they wouldn’t report on NL unless something like exploded and you could see the explosion from space. It was almost like we got treated as “international news” 😂🤣😂🤣
And never forget that eastern Canada, to the rest of the nation, is Toronto.
@@jennifermarlow. you think I could forget that? That’s just basic geography right there 😂🤣😂🤣
lol but the world boiling 😂.
Good thing they’re getting that break on the carbon tax, eh?
Feel bad for the Canadian people that have been forced into living on the streets because of the overtaxation by our criminal government.
I thought we were supposed to panic over global boiling.
OMG... Horrible life in Canada.... Depressed and lonely country...SNOW IS JUST HELL....This is reason why people die early in Canada bcz of harsh winters... Winter is horrible.
Omg 25cm 😂😂😂
Yaaaay!😂
