  • A powerful winter storm is moving through parts of the U.S. and Canada this weekend, unleashing snow and freezing rain along the East Coast.
    The system is sweeping through much of the Northeastern U.S. Saturday, before making its way to Ontario - where several weather advisories are in effect.
    The storm is set to hit Atlantic Canada on Sunday and Nova Scotians are preparing for its arrival.
    Vanessa Wright reports.

      That doesn’t surprise me. The one thing I will say is that allot of the tent dwellers are drug addicts, they have been given multiple chances at housing and they just can’t hack it.

    However, it does seem like there are a bunch of storms queued up to roll through eastern Canada in the coming weeks.

  • @jontoker
    @jontoker Před 6 měsíci +18

    Nova Scotia does a good job preparing for storms like this. Like she said, they do brine and salt "before" the storm. In New Brunswick, we wait till everything ices up and at least 100 cars crash before, they put any sort of de-icing agents. Luckily trans Canada is okay but everywhere else is a gamble... Make sure to have studded winter tires in NB and if you don't have to drive, don't drive...

    Halifax City Hall lets people live in tents a few meters away from the door, which is also right in front of an operating historic church, the tents are sandwiched between the two buildings. Obviously camping is not allowed on public property, which that is, but nobody does anything about it. Apparently tax paying citizens have no rights to public areas now because they're entirely covered by illegal campers, who obviously pay no taxes at all. This tells you what kind of Mayor Halifax has, obviously one who doesn't care about the city or its taxpaying citizens whatsoever. His name is Mike Savage, a former Liberal MP, he's been the Mayor since 2012. Apparently nobody else ever runs for Mayor, because how else could he keep being it when there's a homeless encampment right in front of City Hall. It would be the easiest campaign anybody ever had, "I promise to get rid of the homeless encampment in front of city Hall if elected, and I'm not Satan himself", you're elected.

      Nobody is stopping "taxpaying citizens" from going to the Grand Parade. I was there a few weeks ago, and the place was calm, quiet, orderly. People were going about their business without trouble. Take the bus downtown and stroll around. You'll be fine.
      And, btw, the poorer people are, the more taxes they pay. They pay sales taxes on every cent they spend, and they are forced to spend every cent they can get their hands on just to keep body and soul together.
      Have some common human decency.

    • @VortekStarling
      @VortekStarling Před 6 měsíci

      What if they want to walk on the grass? Oops, bumped into a tent, oops, bumped into another one, repeat about 20 times. And they sure don't pay property taxes. The city doesn't collect sales tax, that's the Province and the federal Government. There's no way that square should have people in tents on it, it's not a campground and it's illegal.@@stoverboo

      @@dazzahaywood3298 Snow like that is rare in eastern Canada nowadays. This forecast is not even true, and I'm sitting here in Halifax, with a few centimeters on the ground. It's going to rain later today. BUT, I agree! Slush and sleet is misery, but cold and snowy? You can dress for that, and if people are prepared and have proper shelter, there are magical things about winter and snow... skating on a frozen lake is one of the best. Maybe you should visit Norway? It's very much like Nova Scotia, and maybe more accessible for you. AND they know how to enjoy winter. :)

      @jennifermarlow. I'd go anywhere where there's loads of snow the more the better when I was younger we used to get the odd bad winter when nearly all roads was blocked only for a short while I used to love being out in it and still like it now..Norway do have snowy winters not seen much about Norway tho.. maybe I should be lookin closer to home. Cause we sure ain't gonna get snow

    Hold on. Didn’t you claim that the world is boiling and the climate crisis caused the earthquake in Japan? Or was that the story about wildfires started by arsonists and careless smokers being the fault of people who heat their homes with fuel oil? No, sorry, that was a different story about sea level rise caused by plastic floating in the ocean and angry orcas attacking sailboats off Portugal. Hard to keep track.

      @@user-ot6hu4gr2v , yeah, my mistake. That was the story about volcanoes in Iceland (a volcanic island) where they breathlessly reported ‘lava coming up through the ground with smoke and toxic gasses’ as if no one knew what volcanoes were. Then hurricanes arrived “without warning” during hurricane season, obviously the result of 100,000 idiots flying to air conditioned Dubai for COPOUT 28. Praise be to Allah for mainstream media!

    Yeah, we already had a big snow storm in Newfoundland a few days ago so this is a weeee bit inaccurate. I lived in Halifax for 8 years so I’m used to there being a weird big distinction in the news between the 3 Maritime provinces and Newfoundland, with NL always treated like some foreign country that wouldn’t get reported on unless something truly MASSIVE happened, but now they’re just excluding us from Atlantic Canada too, eh? 😂😂😂😂

      @@cherabulous8007 but the way the news in Halifax ignores the existence of NL is a whoooole other level to how they ignore like NB and PEI. If something kinda news-y happens in NB and PEI, they’ll report it. I saw a lot of pretty lame stories about potholes, wandering lost doggies etc from those places. They also said “maritime provinces” a LOT and didn’t mention Atlantic Canada very much, which ain’t a distinction without a difference cuz NL is notably not part of the maritimes and ohhhh it was obvious they knew that. I swear, they wouldn’t report on NL unless something like exploded and you could see the explosion from space. It was almost like we got treated as “international news” 😂🤣😂🤣
