    Just to point it out, this is the holy grail of unique trader recruiting out there. I have seen loads of videos on how to obtain them, but this is the only method that has truly worked with 100% result. It took a long time to set up, but once it was done, recruiting the traders was no issue at all.
    Cheers on being perhaps the only creator with a video dealing with this topic with a successful formula to make it work.

      Wow! What a compliment! It was a ton of work but yes, I feel comfortable saying this is the best method for attaining all of the merchants with reliability. Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback!

    • @apocalypseapostle8319
      @apocalypseapostle8319 Před 2 lety +7

      Good work deserves recognition. Videos on the topic have so far been on how buggy it is and the go-to solution has been console commands to fix the issue. What you did was not just show that it`s not a bug, but show how it actually works through the already existing game mechanics. And in doing so show why it can mistakenly be seen as a bug, not just just a bad game mechanic, and explain precisely how it really works in detail.
      After seeing the video I decided to test it myself to verify if it worked, and got them all with no issue at all on the first try. So your guide is not only on point, but could possibly be unique on the topic, as I haven`t seen any video like it so far, and I used to watch a lot of videos on the topic from all kinds of channels, big and small, before reaching the conclusion that it was a bug. Not only can it be done without cheating, but it`s really easy, just time consuming. Hence the praise is well placed.

      @@TheEfficientGamer I would also add that I have tested the spawn trigger where you find Trashcan Carla, and you can pick up both Smiling Larry and The Scribe at said point with ease. Came from the base of the bridge with the gunner camp west of Walden Pond, and the trigger is just a small leap before the stone where Trashcan Carla is found when following the road. There was a couple of small treeclusters before the stone and if you make the save beside the second one, then go across the road to where Carla sat, you can circle back to the north side of the rock and the instance is triggered. The elevation of the rock allows you to vats the target with a rifle to see the encounter. Makes the trip to Cambrige unnecessary as it can all be done around Concord.
      When you get Carla, always check that spawn to ve sure they havent triggered Larry or the Scribe just to be sure.

    I spent all day today trying to get Ron Staples then I read on the Fallout wiki that some of the campsite encounters only show up at night. My save at the stop sign was 8 am, so I waited until 8 pm and made a new save. I started seeing new encounters like Dreth, and then finally Ron Staples himself.

    Was able to get all four traveling merchants for the first time!
    Couple things to mention for anyone else attempting this:
    -Tenpines Bluff area is a no go zone until you are ready to recruit. The rail tracks right next to the cliff spawn a fluid encounter.
    -Walden pond is also a no go zone until ready - there is a campsite encounter just south of there. You CAN go into sunshine tidings to get the magazine/set up a settlement if you want. It's far enough away that the encounter does not spawn.
    Thank you Efficient Gamer for the excellent info - enjoyed learning these behind the scenes mechanics. Despite the buggy nature of the game, the mechanics of these encounters seemed fairly reliable.

    XBOX ISSUE FIXED -- I followed this guide to a T. I went to use the Campfire East of Concord and ended up getting Ron Staples relatively easily. I then tried to get doc Anderson for an entire hour and she did not spawn. to fix this. After talking to Ron Staples, I went to sanctuary, assigned him to the level 3 bar. And then fast travel back to red rocket. I then repeated these steps to go through the campfire East of Concord. But instead of using that site as the farming site. I continued over towards the cabin by dremlin diner. I made a quick save around the. Broken down Billboard and continued over to the small shack. I got doc Anderson on the second try..

    Don't know if you planned on doing a part 4 but one tip that can be useful is completing Nuka world and building tribute chests, booze stills and Chem stations at some settlements then kill all the raiders before completing "The First Step" for Preston. This allows you to keep all those items in your settlement so long as you don't scrap them.
    One warning though, a settler or raider interacting with the tribute chest will cause a crash, so try to make them inaccessible to NPCs.

    I've never commented on a video or channel before, but wanted to say thank you for this series. Absolute gem to find, as you've done some amazing research and testing. I've added a little below for Survival players too.
    I play unmodded survival generally (love some of the brilliant mods the community has made though), and while the timers you've mentioned for some things are a little off this method does work brilliantly. The only changes I've needed were to prevent Danse glitching by completing Fire Support in order to ensure he went inside the Cambridge Police Station before moving onto the Scribe and Smiling Larry. Due to not having the hard saves I slept for saves at Red Rocket for the initial 2 vendors, and in a sleeping bag located under the bridge between Cambridge Police Station and Beantown Brewery. Also thanks to the time needed to recruit enough settlers for Smiling Larry (22 needed it you then get both Doc and Ron, as well as complete Prestons quest and assign Codsworth, 23 to be safe) you have increased time to build and level so I'm currently lvl 35. My next steps will be to collect Ada for automatron DLC, then Sunshine Tidings for the double meat book (really handy in survival), before collecting Piper for the exploration xp boost and weapon hunt at Vault 88 (double shot Combat Rifle - Overseer's Guardian - is ideal for Wasteland decimation while wandering) before recruiting the final vendors. For character build I chose to max Endurance and Intelligence from the start, as Endurance conversion to HP is not retroactive and every point matters in the starting of Survival mode.

      @Jon Bunkle Do you have any tips for Survival mode? I’ve been getting pretty far but I’m curious on your thoughts and if you’re able to farm legendaries.

    • @lazywonko
      @lazywonko Před 2 lety +1

      @@Ser_Thaddeus With Survival I am not sure my playstyle is ideal. My character only carries the most basic equipment due to carry weight, and I wear my Lab Coat / Road Goggles / Destroyer's Helmet (switch into Charisma suit/glasses for conversations) everywhere while killing everything from stealth with the Overseer's Guardian. If I'm doing a heavily combat oriented mission I'll put on full combat armour (combination of Black Ops / Destroyers and Synth gear) but even many of those are easily achieved wearing my normal gear. Otherwise I carry a few basic meds and use only cooked food for dealing with standard debuffs. If you don't mind getting occasional Todd Howard game buffs (if it's not removed as a bug it IS a feature) you don't need to avoid the buff food. If you do, carry noodle cups and mutt chops or iguana on a stick everywhere. Mostly, if you feel like you've got a heap accomplished and don't want to die... go back to a settlement and craft until you need a proper sleep and rake in the crafting xp.
      Legendary farming is a lot more challenging sadly. While we can spawn them and find them in all the same locations, and in fact seem to have a higher % chance of legendary spawns, I haven't found a way to loot lock the spawns or even guarantee it will be the same groups spawning every time. So instead of going on specific legendary hunts I've been placing half a dozen cages in isolated areas of my settlements and clearing those out whenever I am near. If it's useful I will use it or give it to a settler and if not it's more caps and xp to continue along. If I do discover a method to consistently get results I will add it here or make some guides for Survival myself.
      As a general suggestion I recommend changing the Pip-Boy colour to a lighter blue from standard green because it lights up everything noticeably better so you don't miss random loot along the way. I hope any of that is helpful.

    • @Ser_Thaddeus
      @Ser_Thaddeus Před 2 lety

      @@lazywonko Much appreciated, my playstyle seems fairly similar to yours. Though there’s some things I’m still tweaking.
      My settlement is pretty well built in Starlight, I can easily resupply and I got a few of those important vendors.
      For companions I’m on the fence because they seem to get in the way but I’m digging the Automatrons and Sentinel Power armor (from the CC).
      For weapons I want to try melee but that seems dangerous and foolish, so I’ve been sniping mostly.
      Hopefully I can get better armor, then maybe I can try melee. I’ve seen videos for loot locking Survival but I’ve yet to try it. Seems possible though.

    One thing about Trader Rylee that you didn't mention. When you go inside the cannery do not speak to her. Let her finish her conversation with the owner and let her leave the building. Then you can follow her outside to recruit her. There is some kind of bug that occurs if you speak to her while indoors. Once recruited, do not go back inside and start/finish the Mystery Meat quest. If you do she just disappears from your settlement forever. I don't know if that was intentional on Bethesda's part or just another bug. You can go inside to get the bobblehead and magazine but that's all.

    The Automatron DLC makes it harder to recruit these 4 merchants because everytime when I quicksave to trigger The Scribe or Smiling Larry, I always get the Mechanist Hostile Robots, they also break the campsite random encounters which reduces the chances to get Doc Anderson and Ron Staples.
    I had to download the mod called “Intergrated Commonwealth” which reduces the chances of the Automatron Robots to appear.

  • @johnnooyen461

    I came across a useful discovery for those attempting this process and wish for a boost: Abernathy Farm is within range of a campsite encounter (south), so once you are ready to recruit Doc Anderson and Ron Staples, you may visit the settlement to start their quest. While there is a fluid encounter nearby Satellite Station Olivia, testing with the spawning of said encounter revealed that so long as you do not enter the map quadrant containing Thicket Excavations as well as the quadrant east of, IT WILL NOT SPAWN (However I still recommend staying north and looting the robotics disposal ground), allowing you to complete the quest and gain Abernathy Farm as a settlement. If you aren't planning on completing the Nuka World DLC prior to saving Preston on the gang, you will have 20 settlers needed for Doc and Ron, 2 from Doc and Ron themselves, 3 from Abernathy, and 5 from Preston, for an immediate 30 settlers needed to recruit Smiling Larry. Happy Hunting!

    • @johnnooyen461
      @johnnooyen461 Před rokem +1

      Second Discovery: You can settle in Sunshine Tidings Co-op without triggering any campsite or fluid encounters, by simply traveling near the western border of the map from Sanctuary to Sunshine, and entering through the west side. There is a nearby campsite encounter east and north of the settlement (the northern one being in range of Abernathy), but as long as you do not cross the north dam/bridge or exit east it should be fine (there is a chokepoint encounter on the bridge if you wish to activate it). Another tidbit I discovered along the western border was a scrap trader near the small body of water on the map.
      WARNING: Do not use the east campsite encounter to farm for Doc or Ron, there is a second campsite encounter within range west of it (under the bridge), and a third campsite encounter east of the bridge (in a house). If you are careful you could activate all three campsites for quick encounter rolls.

    • @johnnooyen461
      @johnnooyen461 Před rokem +1

      Third Discovery: You can settle Outpost Zimonja, travel along the north border until you reach the settlement, you can clear down to the trailer without triggering the nearby fluid encounter. DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY FATMAN INDUCED MUTILATION. I recommend grabbing the fatman + nuke at the robotics disposal ground to deal with Boomer. Zimonja + Sunshine will bring your total settlement count to 4, double the video's count, this will greatly speed up the time needed to recruit the 20/30 settlers for the campsite/fluid encounters.

    What a fantastic tutorial this series has been. Just want to add my 2 cents from a survival perspective, because the first time I followed this I came to realize that I've screwed up somewhere on the road to Carla (even if I approached her peripherally) and my Doc spawn was broken. Lost about 11h of time so I restarted. Now on the first day I run directly to Red Rocket, build a bed and save. Then I run to Carla approaching her carefully and after that back to Sanctuary. Then I save again on a bed and change difficulty to very easy. I use the console to teleport myself to Doc or Ron (in the secret room) and after I check all four of the traders are in there, I delete the save and reload my last survival save on Sanctuary to level up to lvl20.
    Only relevant for PC and survival difficulty obviously.

    If you break the spawns (and it isnt always broke just because they spawned previously, its if they get killed while spawned) you also can just add them back to the waiting room with a few simple commands... I'd say using a shelf XP glitch is more a cheat, than simple re-enabling a rare encounter npc into the waiting pool who got killed before you even met them.

    I was able to recruit Vault-Tec Rep without having a Lvl 3 General Store initially present, he works fine.
    I tried to recruit Tina DeLuca, I made a hard save before sending her anywhere, she would never reach anywhere, she would just un-exist no matter where I sent her.
    I tried to recruit Trader Rylee and sending her never worked, so I would try to walk with her to the Slog, or Coastal Cottage, or Finch Farm, and I would see her just instantly un-exist.
    I have never even seen Doc Anderson, or Ron Staples, and now that you explained how campsite spawns work, I probably despawned them permamently without ever realizing it. Man, that is bad design but, thank you for teaching us about it.
    The Scribe... that guy... he would never appear if I sent him to a settlement. I had to walk (slowly) with him from that road by CIT to Hangman's (the closest) walk. I actually got him to staff my armor stall. I went to a chem bench to make jet to trade, on my way walking back all of 50 ft, I saw him just turn in place and vanish completely out of existence leaving a small puff of smoke by his feet. My Hangman's tour video has that same stall marked "In Memoriam The Scribe".
    I never ran across Smiling Larry, even though he is not a campsite spawn, so I might not have ruined him ...yet..

I have several settlements. Some populated at 25. I'm just starting to build trading booths, but have no idea how to set supply lines. I think I'm at a level 30 and I don't even know what that means. I know I have both local leadership stars. But I'm really enjoying your videos as your extremely knowledgeable, and I need all the help I can get. I've gone rogue in this game just focusing on settlement building as that brings me the most joy.

    Hey, I'm leaving this comment just in case some people might have had the same problem. I think the first campsite broke because nobody was showing up at all. So what I did was use the same method, but tweeked it. I made a hard save at the first campsite, made my way towards drumlin diner, but just before moving past that big billboard, I made a quick save and moved towards the second campsite spawn. After a few reloads from the quick save, I finally got Doc Anderson to spawn for me. I'm not sure if this is consistent, but if is, this is another method that could be used. Not sure why the first site broke, but maybe it's due to DLC in some way. This was done on the PS4 btw so hopefully it works for anyone who couldn't get the first method down. I'll probably edit this comment if I get Ron Staples using the same method.
    Edit: Okay! Literally 10 minutes after I left comment, I did the same method I just listed, and got Ron Staples. I wanna say that this is a consistent method of getting those two characters to spawn, along with what was said in the video. To also clarify, I didn't ever go beyond Red Rocket Truck Stop besides to talk and sell to Trashcan Carla. I hope this helps anyone else struggling!

    Once you have Ron Staples and Doc Anderson at your settlement working for you. You will then encounter them randomly in the wasteland which is weird cause they're at your settlement working at a vendor stand. It's like they're a copy or maybe a synth. I haven't killed one to see if they're a synth but next time i see one of them appear i will save then kill them to see if i find a synth component or if they're just the same identical character that is part of the normal random encounter system but because they're at your settlement they're not removed from the game files is what I'm guessing or maybe the institute really did make copies of them.

A few days later I'm walking by that house which is a random spawn point next to Drumlin Diner and she was there treating people. So I immediately fast travel back to Spectacle Island and sure enough her booth was empty, however I came back the next day and she was there.

Its honestly amazing the amount of ways Bethesda can take a neat idea and completely fuck it up.

    One correction i might add to this is that Rylee is EXTREMELY bugged out. Even if you get her to your settlement and such, there's a whole mess of issues with her regarding the Mystery Meat quest inside the factory. People reporting her disappearing after you complete the quest, or not being able to do the quest at all. She says "i'm confused" the first time you try to recruit her and goes through the second time, but then she's stuck with the "work for me?" option when shes back in your settlement.
    tl;dr Rylee is too buggy, so if you're looking for perfection then i'd probably go with the Vault Tec Rep. or maybe Tina, i've never used her. Never had issues with the Rep in my own playthroughs. Only downside of him is that you have to wait an eternity for him to ramble basically anytime you wanna talk to him. I can't find anything saying if different level 4 General merchants have different stocks though.
    I have no idea how you managed to get Rylee without her being bugged.
    EDIT: After reading the wiki page for all 3 of the merchants, VT Rep is by far the least buggy, and almost all of his bugs seem to be resolvable without console commands, unlike the other two.

    I did some searching online, and it looks like there's a bug where she goes missing after you complete the 'mystery meat' quest at Lukowski's. I did that quest right after making sure she showed up at my settlement so it makes sense. Just wondering if you've done that quest and if she went missing for you as well.

    10:35 Trader Rylee. There is a mission underneath the factory. If you choose to do that mission you'll anger Theo and you must deal with him. If you kill him you defenitly loose trader rylee forever. Theo is her brother afterall. If you want to do the mission bring a Power Armor fit with a jetpack. You need the PA to reach Theo after you've been in his cellar. He shoots his robots are shooting at you too. But don't kill them or even harm them. Instead, fly to Theo and you can talk to him then. Spare him and he become a better trader too and you'll keep Rylee in your settlement.
    But,,, why take the risk??? Don't go in the cellar anyway. There is nothing special there except for one Legendary enemy and a bunch of normal enemy. Story is nice though.

    So if one of these NPCs showed up in a random encounter without me knowing they were there or if I couldn't recruit them, they are gone forever? How do I know that I'm not wasting my time?
    Because I found both Ron and Anderson before I could recruit them, I found Ron later again while farming them and I recruited him, he showed up but disappeared quickly after. I ended up finding him in another random encounter where I killed him for abandoning me. Same exact thing with Rylee, however I recruited her at her fixed initial spawn at Longneck. However, I haven't met Anderson ever again and I have been farming this quite a bit. Also, for some reason I can only find campsite encounters at the Mass Fusion shed. The campfire outside Concord has a never despawning corpse of the sick guy, the house near Drumlin diner where I found Ron early in the game for the first time before I could recruit him has also dried up. I found Anderson on the dam near the relay tower near Oberland, also there I found Mikey and Moss and the 2 people threatening the Synth. That one seemed to has the most activity but has also dried up. I tried new spots, like close to westing estates and peabody house but nothing ever spawned there so as of right now only the campfire near mass fusion shed spawns anything anymore, but its hostile enemies everytime now and most of the time robots. This is where I found Ron the 2nd time when I recruited him and where I found him and rylee again after leaving my settlement. im still trying to find Anderson but since I found robots at the shed like 20 times in a row i decided to move on to trying to find larry and the scribe and after quite a while i found larry actually, recruited him and bought the reckoning. But i havent found the scribe yet. now my question is, how do i know im not wasting my time trying to find anderson and the scribe? maybe i ran into the scribe without realising it and he disappeared. maybe anderson disappeared after meeting her the first time, while ron didnt bug out. i could really use some help, please.

      Virtibird grenades. I have a huge stack of those in my survival save , and I couldn't live without them.

    Most folks already know this, but you can get Parker Quinn as a sort of secret 9th level 4 since his inventory is a copy of Ron Staples.

      @@austinmaddox8390 There are videos on how to get him here on CZcams. I wasn't the one that figured it out. You can probably find them by searching Parker Quinn Fallout 4.

      @@austinmaddox8390 I play vanilla. No, Parker Quinn the charge card guy. You can intimidate him into one of your settlements, then assign him to a bar. He won't allow you to do bar stuff until you get the charge card, but then he is a bartender with the same inventory as Ron Staples.
