I have to say, you seem like a really wholesome dude! As a diehard fan of fantasy, I need to check out your book!

I read one of your comments on another channel and thought I'd check out your channel. Thanks for the great video! I enjoyed your story of meeting Sanderson, and I appreciate your insights into the writing process. Great review of The Way of Kings, and your enthusiasm for the genre is awesome. I'll be checking out some of your other videos!

I was excited at the end to see some representation (mm romance) now im starting to wonder if its going to turn out super dark to lol im only on ch 3 so far but really enjoying your characters.

I love fantasy and have enjoyed Mistborn, Elantris, as well as his Wheel of Time completion novels for Robert Jordan.
However, I have started Way of Kings twice and have really struggled to get through the first few chapters. Guess I’ll try again and hope third time’s the charm.

Brandon has said that the first 13 chapters are very hard, and than it really gets going. but trust me, it's worth it in so many ways.

Oh man, this is one of those books that I really want to like and read, but every time I try I just can't get into it. This is exactly the kind of book I usually like (big story, big world, human characters), but I don't know what it is. I just have trouble staying interested. I will try again once I can go to the library again ;)

I love this book but it's long and full of weird and wonderful things. Brandon Sanderson himself says to try mistborn first if you haven't read any of his book's.

@@MrRutty1984 Ha ha I did try Mistborn and wasn't into that either. Elantris I liked but something came up and I stopped reading it.

@@fredrikgranstrom6743 It's not that I think I should like it, I just wonder why I don't. When I start reading it, it's not bad, but I don't find it compelling. I can't put my finger on why it doesn't grab me.

    • @Law-of-EnTropy

@@JoelAdamson it's probably subject to taste. I actually always find Sanderson's books compelling. The people are as real and well-thought-out. They aren't just a flesh of personalities clumped together, instead, they each represent the dynamics of people experiencing the world and the challenges it gives them. The worlds are very fleshed-out and he always finds a logical way why magic exists in those worlds. His prose is not as poetic as Rothfuss's, but they're straight forward and they're there for a reason (which is surprising, because I always thought Rothfuss's style was unique to that, but I'm wrong). Sanderson has a way of slamming it down your face and challenges you to know where to look. Connected to that, his plots are always crisp, the payoffs are satisfying and worth the wait.
So yeah, it may be an element of his writing that you don't find interesting enough to hook you. As he said in one of his lectures, every writer should always be aware of readers that will never read their book. It's one way to guide the writer to write for himself and keep the material's authenticity than to write for everyone's interest just to please them.

Always love to hear people gushing over Sanderson! His book endings are phenomenal. My other favorite ending scene in fantasy is the conclusion of the second and third book of the Licanius Trilogy (it’s the same scene).

I'm in the unpopular crowd when it comes to Mistborn. I loved his magic system with Allomancy, but no character description and (sorry) not very well written. I'm hoping The Stormlight Archives changes my mind about Sanderson.

I’m with you, Mistborn went from good to okay to meh. However, having read Way Of Kings, I can recommend it it wholeheartedly, one of my favourite books!

The big grand story in mistborn was very good. But there was too much unnecessary nonsense.
The siege of the city and them conquering other cities in the 3rd book... It was boring and turned out to be unnecessary filler.

  • @mattronimus

You can't say it was fantastic right off the bat. I listened to it for 16 hours today and it took a very long time for me to get invested in the characters.
I know it will be good, but off the bat it was quite boring.
