    N. T. Wright approaches the Apostle Paul as the world's first, and greatest, Christian theologian. Much of his lifetime study has had Paul, his life and writings, as the focus. He has offered detailed insights into Paul's life and times for over 30 years, beginning with his dissertation on Pauline Theology and Romans and continuing through his recently released, two-volume Paul and the Faithfulness of God. In between those writings, Wright has produced over 60 books, many of which have dealt with Paul, and another one is soon to be released, Paul and His Recent Interpreters.
    Bio info:
    N. T. Wright was born on December 1, 1948 in Morpeth, Northumberland, England. He is a retired Anglican bishop and a leading New Testament scholar. Wright was the Bishop of Durham in the Church of England from 2003 until his retirement in 2010. He is currently Research Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at St. Mary's College, University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
In a 2003 interview he said that he could never remember a time when he was not aware of the presence and love of God. He recalled an occasion at age four or five when "sitting by
myself at Morpeth and being completely overcome, coming to tears, by the fact that God loved me so much he died for me. Everything that has happened to me since has produced wave upon wave of the same."
In addition to his Doctor of Divinity degree from Oxford University, he has also been awarded honorary doctoral degrees from Durham University in 2007, the John Leland Center for Theological Studies in 2008, the University of St. Andrews in 2009, Heythrop College, University of London in 2010, and the Ecumenical Institute of
Theology at St. Mary's Seminary & University in 2012.
Among modern New Testament scholars, Wright is an important proponent of traditional views on theological matters including Christ's bodily resurrection and second coming. Further he has expressed strenuous opposition both to the ordination of openly gay persons and the blessing of same-sex partnerships and
marriages. On the other hand, he has criticized the idea of a literal rapture, coauthored a book with his friend Marcus Borg, a widely known voice of liberal Christianity, and is associated with the Open Evangelical movement and New Perspective on Paul, both of which are controversial in many conservative theological circles.
He has published over 50 books and spoken often on radio and television. His latest books include Paul and the Faithfulness of God, Paul and His Recent Interpreters (forthcoming), How God Became King, and The Case for the Psalms: Why They Are
Essential. One of his most important popular series is his New Testament for Everyone that includes 18 volumes.

Wonderful! This lecture gives what to me was an in-depth look into Wright's thinking on Paul and on justification. And it isn't just a lecture, it's a sermon in which you really get to see some of the depth of Wright's faith and love for the Lord and his appreciation for Paul and what he did.

Very much appreciating Dr. Wright's words (@35:45), "I have a mantra, which I run regularly, which goes like this: We must stop giving 19th century answers, to 16th century questions. And, start giving 21st century answers to 1st century questions. That's hard." Amazing insight… Here are a couple of hard 1st century questions, for 21st century theologians:
Paul said Moses veiled the Old Testament, that was only UNveiled by the "Spirit of the Lord" (2Cor 3:12-18 KJV). Certainly, that's a "Comforter", the Holy Spirit of Truth, kinda thing. The proverbial mark of Cain being exemplary. Jesus' Divine Paternity was challenged in John 8:12+, responding that according to Mosaic Law (Deu 17:6; 19:15), "two witnesses", Jesus and His Father, testify to His Divine Paternity (John 8:17, 18).
Jesus' testimony was something He "saw with" His Father (John 8:38). God's testimony was a "truth" Jesus "heard from God", something Abraham never heard (John 8:40). Both of those OT testimonies are veiled in the OT. Two entities (Jesus, and Father/God), in two testimonies (John 8:38, 40), by "two witnesses" (John 8:17, 18)… according to Mosaic Law (Deu 17:6; 19:15)… that “converted” (v. 15, Mat 13:10-17) Jesus’ ‘believers’, into His “disciples indeed” (John 8:31, 32). Something seen, and something heard... eyes to see, and ears to hear (Mat 13:10-17). Recall the Great Commission. Speaking of "disciples indeed", Acts 11:KJV,
    25. Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:
    26. And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
Paul, fluent in the OT, evidently taught the explicit and succinct details of those two testimonies (John 8:38, 40), that authenticated Jesus' Divine Paternity: "And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch". So, the original Christians were Jesus' "disciples indeed"; and, Paul even stayed with one before the scales fell from his eyes (Ananias, Acts 9). I've asked a half-dozen PhD theologians in a familiar accredited university, about that scenario. The sad state of affairs is only one even realized there WERE two testimonies authenticating Jesus' Divine Paternity (John 8:38, 40). And, he humbly responded that he'd been pondering those testimonies for about eight years, to no avail.
Perhaps those two unveiled testimonies (John 8:38, 40) are too hard for 21st century theologians. All disciples are indeed, Christians. But, Christians are evidently not all disciples, nowadays. Somewhat plagiarizing, "truth" is greater than the sum of all knowledge... And, what makes those testimonies hard, is their unveiling totally shifts the framework of the Bible… Folk will find themselves being Mat 8:19, 20 followers of Jesus… because there are no churches that teach what Paul evidently taught at Antioch. What are the explicit and succinct details, of those two testimonies (John 8:38, 40)?
    Kayaker, neologian.

Being led by the spirit of God actually has a very specific meaning: it isn’t just a bunch of words. The led are actors - you don’t know any of them, they aren’t people you come across in daily life. Christ is very pessimistic about the response to the teaching, because all the great prophets are well briefed as to the dismal state of humanity. They know the impact is minimal. They know the response is dominated by self-serving hypocrisy - just as described in the gospels and in Acts

What is so interesting about these comments is one person is trying to out do another in their scriptural knowledge of the God of Love. You can argue the laws and the dispensations all you like one true resounding message is very clear, love one and other. In the end do you think your sum total of life will be how you all argued so well about what the words mean't or will the sum total of life be how you treated people with love. Paul did put it beautifully when he basically said do not drag yourself down and get involved in humanities attempts to understand God. Get on with loving life and one and other. If your understanding of the words enable you to hurt another human being you are part of the problem, not the solution.

From the comprehensive study of the scriptures, placing the content of the New Testament within its historical context, it is clearly revealed to us that the conversion of Paul (Shaul) consists in that he is an Israelite Jew from the tribe of Benjamin, a Pharisee, a disciple of Gamaliel, who believed that Yahshua is the Messiah of the Hebrew people, prophecied by the word of God within the same Hebrew tradition. Because of having believed in Yahshua, Shaúl (Paul) is baptized in the baptism of Yohanan (John, who is a respected Jew considered a prophet by the people of Israel) for repentance of sins. God instructed the people of Israel about these sins that they had to repent and turn away from through the Torah (law of Moses). Shaúl (Paul) was chosen by Yahweh, God of the Hebrew patriarchs to know his will and was sent by Yahshua to minister to both the Gentiles and the kings and children of Israel, for which he received the Holy Spirit through the imposition from the hands of Ananias (who is also a Jew). Here we can clearly notice that it is not a question of a conversion to "Christianity" or to Catholicism, considered as a new church or religion separated from the people of Israel and the Hebrew tradition. (Acts 22: 6 to 21), but rather this conversion implies the abandonment of the religious beliefs dictated by rabbinic Judaism to deliver their Faith to the Messiah of the people of Israel announced by the Hebrew prophets, within the same Israelite tradition.
The truth that the scriptures reveal to us is that Paul never denied his origin or his Jewish faith, what he abandoned was his stubbornness to deny that Yahshua is really the savior expected by the people of Israel and recognized him as Messiah. He never claimed to be "Christian." The great value of Paul's ministry is that, while fully preserving his Jewish identity (Pharisee of Pharisees, disciple of Gamaliel, connoisseur of the Torah), he showed a genuine interest, dedication and love to share his faith and the gospel of the Messiah of people of Israel with all the Gentiles outside their tradition, fully convinced that Yahshua is the resurrected son of God, and made a great effort to introduce the gospel to all nations, facing the rejection of the Hebrew orthodoxy that refused to recognize Yahshua. He rejects the hellenization of the Jews avoiding paganizing the tradition, but neither does he tries to convert all gentiles into orthodox Jews, however he insists that the law (the Torah) and the prophets must be known. He never teaches two different gospels, he teaches only one based on the teachings of the Messiah of Israel. The prophets tell us of the vision that the gentiles will abandon idolatry and come to worship the God of Israel. The idea propagated by the fathers of the Greco-Roman church that the mission of Paul the Jew was to start a new religion is as absurd as thinking that Yahshua came to found a new religion. The "church based religion" is an invention of the "church fathers" that came after the disciples of Yahshua were gone, based on the missinterpretation of Paul´s epistoles. If there is something that Christian theologians master with great skill, it is the use of Greek techniques of rhetoric.
Personal testimony that Paul made in his defense before Rome, according to the word we read in Acts 25: 7-8 “When he arrived, the Jews who had come from Jerusalem surrounded him, presenting against him many and serious accusations, the which they couldn't prove; Paul alleging in his defense: Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I sinned in anything. " Words that are ratified in Chapter 28:17 “And it came to pass that three days later, Paul summoned the chief of the Jews; to whom, after they were together, he said: I, male brothers, having done nothing against the people, nor against the customs of our fathers, have been delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans; " the same in Philippians 3: 6 as to the justice that is in the Torah, I have been blameless. So there are only two possibilities: either Paul lied by stating on different occasions in his epistles that he never did anything against the Torah and its traditions, or those who are lying are Christian theologians who claim that Paul invented christian theology.

@@joe-jg4bh getting back to watching it now. The speaker suggests a very late date for Acts. my understanding on the two books authored by Luke written to Theophilus a Roman official was an attempt to show the accusations against Paul to be false. look at the words charged against Paul by his accusers and the record given by Luke. He seems to deal with them all. The book ends before a record of Paul's death. So if it is written after his death two questions arise. One why make the defense since it would be irrelevant. and Two why is there no record of his death. the second could be answered because both Luke and Acts are written on the longest scrolls available and there was no more room to include that information however the first objection has no good answer. if Paul is dead why write a defense for him? So I would question a late date for the writing of Acts. it was written after Luke but before Paul's death and must have been written shortly after Luke. I also pick up a suggestion that Paul was starting a non Jewish anti-law/Torah movement. i see this as popular but inaccurate of the Biblical evidence. Paul was continuing as an observant Jew his argument for Gentile inclusion is Torah based. it was agreed upon by the Apostles in Jerusalem if Luke's account in Acts is valid. Even James gave Paul and Barnabas a letter of authorization. They would not do this if there was no Hebrew Scriptural authority for the position the held.

The Church is actually a beautiful revelation. The institutions that existed up to that time none, not even the Nation of Israel, could achieve the great vision of God in bringing humanity together in one body....in some sense we could say the church joined in spirit to Christ was the new creation the womb through which God could bring forth children unto God.
So all that is true of Christ, Paul saw is true of Him in the church...he saw that man must let go of every divisive endeavour and embrace the new revelation which is not a mystical revelation as we have come to think but merely the correct/spiritual way of interpreting life.
I think Christianity has suffered primarily because we have misunderstood this. When Christ said the kingdom is within you the western mind has taken it to mean a secret, private and personal enjoyment of God..and I think I heard the presenter make that similar point. It is not private or secret at all. It is the he birthright of all the nations. "Jesus is Lord" Is the theme of the entire bible. This is the churches message but sad to say we have retired into our four-walled corners thinking we "saved ones" are the privileged lot.

Being in Christ means doing what God considers good. And Christ broke down the middle wall of separation between Jew & gentiles. The New Testament tells us that were the dogmas of ordinances....additions & subtraction from God's law through misapplication by men.
Like the rules of handwashing ( only for Levitical priests approaching for Temple service ) & the ORAL instruction to not associate with Gentiles which is not in the Torah at all.

The WORLD disbelieves and frowns on belief, the FLESH is lazy and selfcentered and so does not seek God/Truth, and the DEVIL temps us to instead lean on part, partial, false, and mischevious interpretations of other men, which are further removed from Truth. All of which lead to and support what we call "problems in the bible."

Now, since Paul said he counted Judaism as a pile of shit, I don't really think he's making the connection, nor 'departure', you and others really are suggesting - to some new and lawless libertine rewrite. As a matter of fact, Paul's faith was a RETURN to that of old which certainly was not Talmudic Judaism which had forsaken the old paths - for traditions of the elders run the roost in Judaism then and now, nor was it the Christian solar cult the WOLVES HE WARNED OF changed the message to, and which today do speeches (for a fee) as this video presents.
Torah was part of HIS GOSPEL (1 Tim 1:8-11) and since EVERY MOUTH could NEVER be stopped without it, nor could the whole world be found guilty without it, as it brings them to the realization of their need (Rom. 3:9-20), I suggest you rethink the brainwashing the WOLVES have done on you. Because that "man of sin" sitting in the "TEMPLE" exalted as if he were Yahweh is the solar cult messiah of the WOLVES ... the false messiah ... Jesus Christ. Christianity is the Great Falling Away Paul warned of, not proclaimed. The true Messiah Paul spoke of was not only torah observant, but NOT a universalist ... and the Mighty One in the Bible who is Yahweh is the Mighty One of ONE PEOPLE - the "HOLY SEED" - the "CHOSEN RACE", while the god of the WOLVES, merKURIOS, the lord, is for ALL "humanity" - universal ... "another gospel" from "another spirit" which Paul warned of, (2 Cor. 1:4). Far different than Paul's thinking is the modern WOLVES of today seeking to destroy the "holy seed" of the "chosen race" (Rom. 9:3-5). Jude terms them "FILTHY DREAMERS". I agree.

God is the universalist. The mission of Israel was to proclaim Him throughout the world. By this I mean that Jews for Judaism, and your own response, illustrates exactly what both Jesus and the Apostles were confronting in the principalities and powers of Temple Judaism.
Jesus appeared to correct that failure and Paul recognized the continuity of His ethic and epistemology originating in the Torah and, based entirely on the divine aborgation of all things kosher, took this ethic to the Romans, in particular, who recognized the continuity of Jesus' epistemology and ethic from before the Torah, with Melchizedeck, then completed the task Israel had failed to accomplish.

A restored Israel could finally fulfill the promise made to Abraham: "By you all the families of the earth shall be blessed" (Gen. 12:3). The turn to Gentiles is the necessary consequent of a restore Israel. Indeed, Jesus, about to ascend into heaven: "You shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8). James is talking about being justified to fellow believers/men and Paul is dealing with justification before God. Paul also teaches what James teaches but uses a different choice of words that do not seem contradictory as James did. James also gives credence to Paul's understanding of Gentiles being accepted by faith rather than works of the law when the discussion is raised in Jerusalem and they put few restrictions than the law would. These seeming contradictions reveal the divine mind. and they are throughout scripture. example being justified by faith apart from works of the law yet also being judged according to your deeds. God being sovereign yet he has man choose. there are many many more. they appear contradictory but they are actually paradoxes (two equally true statements that appear to contradict but don't)

1 Corinthians 8:4-5, 7-8, 10-11 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
      For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
(Ok as long as it doesn't offend a "weaker" brother)
1 Corinthians 10:19, 27-28 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?
If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.
But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof
      (Plausible deniability)
Revelation 2:2, 9, 14, 20 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
Clearly Jesus doesn't think of an idol as nothing! Clearly Jesus is talking about foods sacrificed to idols as spiritual fornication/adultery!!!!
Paul has deceived the whole world with his wishy-washy doctrines. How much easier is it going to be for the Anti-christ of Revelation to deceive those already conditioned by Paul.

Speaking of thinking, what fruit does the knowledge of good and evil produce? It's not and Apple or an orange. It isn't a lemon either but it is a sour fruit and most often turns quite bitter.
Eating the fruit means building an attachment to your concept of right and wrong. Attachment is the eating part and judgment is the fruit produced by the knowledge of good and evil.
Appology, forgiveness or humility is spitting the Fruit back up and grace is leaving it on the Tree; reserving judgment or at least your attachment to it.

I think Paul went back to Genesis and based grace upon the promise of God to Abraham. this covenant proceeded the Covenant with Moses at Sinai and Paul reasons the later covenant had not nullified the former. So Jesus comes to fulfill both the Abrahamic and the Mosaic covenants and we are recipients of the blessings promised upon all who have the faith of Abraham.

Hebrews talks about the Covenant with Moses passing away and a covenant based on better promises. many see this as Old Covenant and New Covenant but Paul argues the Abrahamic Covenant which is older than the Mosaic is the basis. Jesus brings both together. He becomes Israel and fulfills their promised to do all that is declared in the Decalogue at Mount Sinai. He also fulfills the promise God makes to Abraham that all nations will be blessed through his promised seed. The giving of the Spirit coincided with the celebration of the Covenant held at Mount Sinai. So the Law was fulfilled and the blessing promised came in the form of the Spirit being poured out. the covenants were called the Everlasting Covenant so they were not abolished they were established and the New is a renewal of the Abrahamic where God alone promises to bring about his promise to Abraham.

Paul's theological inventions beyond Jesus teachings seems akin to later inventions of elaborate rituals to 'perfect' Christianity by the Roman church itself. (Perhaps the later are even a result of Paul's emphasis on the church?)

Burying one's head in the ground by requiring PHYSICAL, historical evidence to accept the validity and authenticity of historical events is a sad way to live. If I claimed to have oatmeal for breakfast this morning but had no physical evidence, am I trustworthy enough for someone to accept my word? Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, and Paul, for starters, all record that Jesus of Nazareth claimed to be the long-prophesied Messiah who came to bring us real life -- and that life is found IN HIM. What a blessing to not have to trust in only one source!!! The evidence is without a doubt OVERWHELMING that Jesus of Nazareth is fully the God of all creation and simultaneously fully a man who lived life the way we were intended to live!! Hallelujah!!!
Each and every one of us, whether we admit it or not, lives by trust -- whether in ourselves (foolish choice), in another created being, in another created being's notions, or in the Divine Creator himself. It is a choice filled with peril to ignore and/or suppress a nagging conscience that the Creator of all things in the universe has clearly -- by observing the evidence of creation -- designed us for relationship with him and to bear his image in his creation. The idea that our merciful God has included me in his family through Jesus' life, death, and resurrection is a profound truth that allows me to live with deep confidence each day -- confidence that his life at work in and through me is contributing to things that matter now and will matter after my body dies. What an amazing experience and life to be a part of God's kingdom!!!

Honest reactions to the four Gospels include, 1) accepting them as historical accounts of actual events, people, and places that stir the reader toward understanding Jesus of Nazareth as the Creator of the universe, or 2) accepting them as historical accounts of actual events, people, and places that don't seem to be relevant to the reader at the time of analysis. Critics that describe these documents as myths and the events as impossible because the concept of "supernatural" has no evidence are ignoring the obvious. To observe the universe and all that it contains without admitting that the supernatural was required in CREATING the ELEMENTS/MATTER that comprise the objects in the universe is turning one's head away from the evidence.

But rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you, delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles to whom I am sending you to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’
    God tells Ananias
    Acts 9:10-17
In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The LORD called to him in a vision, "Ananias!" "Yes, LORD," he answered.
The LORD told him, "Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying.
In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight."
"LORD," Ananias answered, "I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem.
And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name."
But the LORD said to Ananias, "Go!
I will show him how much he must suffer for my name."
Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, "Brother Saul, the LORD-Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here-has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit."
    Finally, Peter sez
    2 Peter 3:15-16
And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, ..............WHICH THE IGNORANT AND UNSTABLE.............. twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.
So which are you? I hope it’s just confused.
The only reason Paul is an issue is because God said, " This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel" and satan attacks anything or anybody that brings the gospel to humans.

What is clear from all this and the separation between Paul and Barnabas is that Paul was teaching what Jesus never taught or asked his desciples to teach. Jesus taught strict obeisance to the law. In his sermon to his followers Jesus said " It was said in the past ...........but I say unto you......". He actually tightened the law. So by any imagination Paul's teachings were an aberation to what Jesus Christ and his desciples taught.
Now the importatnt question is , did Jesus know that someone like Paul will come after him and did he mention it ? Absolutely yes.
Jesus warned about the coming of the false prophets who will come "IN HIS NAME " and may mislead even the very elect. In fact Paul has been very successful in this and his industry has become a trillion dollars money making machine. Jesus was a thorough bred practicing Jew who prayed to God the creator like every Jew and never claimed to be God. Paul's industry has gone to absurdities by proclaiming Jesus as God.

@@jakpanana3938 Paul said nothing new. All he did was make it clear that the grace of God (which comes by faith) overrules the law. It always has. This was the case with the marauding gentile nation Nineveh, the 40-year fugitive Moses-a murderer under the Noahide law, and David with his multiple infractions of the Law of Moses.
Regarding the "tightening" of the law-yes Jesus did that exactly when he virtually equated lust with adultery, and anger with murder. But more than that, Jesus explained the origins of adultery and murder as the passions of the flesh. That was his real point-which the apostles expanded on in their letters.
Then why should Jesus not be God? If God could speak through a jackass or burning bush, could his word not also become flesh? If God could lead Israel with a pillar of smoke and fire, should he not also lead the whole world as a shepherd? But I'm convinced enough by what he did and said as "Son of God" and "Son of Man."

N.T. Wright is a good scholar and has written valuable works on the Christian religion. However his new perspectives on Paul is way off! And I question his understanding of sin and redemption as the basis for his errors on Paul. The reference to Akiba is one example of this? Akiba, though valiant and courageous never received the God of Israel's Messiah. Therefore he did not receive the heart spoken of in the Prophet Ezekiel and plainly spoken of by our Lord Jesus in John chapter 3. Which means he died in his sin and was never regenerated! The fact that Wright cannot see this proves his misunderstanding of salvation and true conversion? These are serious errors and the kind of problem that follows the new perspective? The Westminster confession other than in its faulty view of Baptism is thoroughly biblical and evangelical. Jews can talk of grace but it is just talk until they receive the Messiah. No unsaved person does good works from a natural heart! The Saints under the old covenant were indeed regenerated the same as they are under the new! The new lays out all the details and provides the reasons that are behind a true and genuine salvation and conversion experience. In Matthew Jesus tells us of multitudes who do good works and think that they have done them in truth and sincerity only to find that they were never saved and that their faith and deeds were done from the flesh and not from the power of the Spirit of God. Devout Jews labor under the same condition. Religion without regeneration is a damning thing. Knowing the difference separates genuine faith from a false deluded faith. Those spoken of in Matthew had a false and carnal faith and were trusting in themselves and their religious zeal and good works. Wright misses this notable distinction and serves as the reason for his errors with respect to Paul and what Paul taught in all of his writings. Paul himself was a devout religionist and thought that he was a good Jew who operated from right motives only to find he was as lost as the devil until he had his conversion experience and became a truly righteous man in Messiah and thus fit to preach the gospel to both Jews and gentiles. Wright and others have evaded this important point because thy do not have the biblical understanding of the depths and deception of mans dead and depraved heart? Truth and error are a fatal combination!

    2. to produce or create with the imagination: to invent a story.
    3. to make up or fabricate (something fictitious or false): to invent excuses.
    4. Archaic. to come upon; find.
The only definition that would seem to apply is the Archaic. Paul's Christian Theology is an application of reasoning from Torah. The reasoning may be unique to Paul but he did not originate or produce/create it nor did he make up/fabricate it. He discovered/came upon/found God's intention revealed in Genesis. God's chosen people from whom he intends to bless the whole world begins with Abraham/Abram. Paul discovers it was only in the 3rd renewal of the promise that Abraham was then circumcised. So he is father to both the circumcised and uncircumcised. It was the 2nd renewal where the formal cutting of the covenant was performed (while Abram was still uncircumcised). In this formal ceremony God pledges himself to accomplish all stipulations to bring about the promise. Paul states the later covenant through Moses some 400 years later at Mt Sinai did not nullify the former. it defined more clearly the stipulations. Christianity is based in God's revelation in Torah. Paul lays the foundation for Christianity upon what God determined beforehand. So the word used invented while accurate in an archaic sense gives a distorted picture in the way most people would take it to mean. I am sure Tom was using it to provoke thought. nothing wrong with that.

I can see the message Wright is getting at here, but he should have started off with the understanding that "all scripture is God-breathed" and worked out his title and message from there. God worked through Paul using him as a vessel by which to reach all mankind with the Gospel message and, yes, God used a new way of getting that message across through the God-breathed inspired New Testament scripture. God is the "inventor" of all theology and simply uses man as a vessel to deliver the message.

I disagree, God gives us truth, but “theology” is the different ways we try to UNDERSTAND that truth. So God doesn’t just give us theology directly, but lets us have the opportunity to explore it ourselves (hopefully with the Spirit’s guidance).

So you're saying that Paul--the one guy on the planet at that time, who had the entire Torah memorized beFORE going to study with Gamaliel, the preeminent Torah teacher, the Paul that says he was as zealous for God--that God picked Paul to say to the entire world "The law is done away with"? That makes no sense and isn't true. Paul spends his time explaining the Torah to those who had not grown up with it. It's only the "Church" that decided it was something new when they hadn't fully understood the actual Scriptures.

32:8 and 32:43. Even though we are comparing the same chapter of Deuteronomy, the texts never completely agree in all verses. Sometimes the DSS agree with the MT over the LXX, as in verse 32:43[ii], and sometimes the DSS agree with the LXX over the MT, as in verse 32:8[iii].

just talking about text differences not talking about the
      inconsistency
      factual error
and ethical error in OT and NT
      the textual variant
so many that is much more than the text in NT itself why bcz we have so many manuscript but of them from 1000 AD
the most of differences are in spelling but the number of manuscript from 1000 ad are eclipses the the textual variation as if its just spelling, but the variant that was matters important and theologically effective and some of them stay inside the text for centuries and regarded a part of the text until scholars remove it, many scholars only regard the original autography to be innerant not the copy from the transmission bcz we cant deny its many differences interpolation changes and substraction as it happen in torah and NT is as it follow
Throughout the Middle Ages, scribes did not realize just how much different the manuscripts they were copying were from one another. It was not until 1707 that scholars began to realize the enormity of the problem. so the editing to the original words takes time, That was the year that an Oxford scholar named John Mill (no relation to the Victorian John Stuart Mill) published an edition of the New Testament that included a list of places where there were variant readings in the manuscripts.
also important to know that some of these differences are extremely important, affecting how significant passages-or even entire books-are interpreted. Obviously knowing the original text in these places is important: you can’t very well say what the New Testament means if you don’t know what it says! Unfortunately, there are dozens of passages whose original wording scholars debate, and for some passages where we will probably never know. sometimes even there are evenly divided variants so new testament use them both so divided translation have two of this variant

Luke 10 is the only place where we find the account of Jesus sending a specific 70 (or 72) disciples to prepare the way before Him. The discrepancies in the number (70 or 72) come from differences found in approximately half of the ancient scrolls used in translation. The texts are nearly evenly divided between the numbers, and scholars do not agree on whether the number should be 70 or 72
earlier manuscript is sometimes have widely attested differences compare to modern bible for example in luke there is cainan as the son of arphaxad instead of selah now this thing was not in earlier manuscripts that used by josephus, eusibius , africanus and other early church father
the interpolation of john the baptist as a mere warner of christ coming and no taht graet significant is christian interpolation to make jesus is more important figure
      the earlier manuscript

“yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. “
this word is not in earleir manuscript
and in a luke 2:33,43 it said joseph and his mother marveled
but other translation read his father and his mother marvelled
the first reading inkjv is widely attested in majorit greek manuscript amd early latin copies and use by early saint and many manuscript and famous manuscript
but modern translation choose the 2nd one
contradiction in translation usually modern translator render the mistake or contradiction in old testament masoratic or even septuagint so theyreading is new reading which is corrected like
2 Samuel 21:19 the New NET translation also kjv and nkjv
change that Elhanan killed the brother of goliath
but many other translation said elhanan killed goliath the gittite and they follow masoratic amd septuagint
several verses that fake were in bible for centuries until scholars take it out only after found earlier manuscript and compare them so its not pristine in the journey of transmission so taht we could have it without textual criticism which found the original word
you can see your self about inconsistencies
Remember that in the other Gospels, Jesus actually eats the Passover meal with his disciples before his arrest. John’s timing of the story is different - he has Jesus die before the Passover meal is eaten. Why did John’s author alter the story? We find a clue in the Gospel of John when he refers to Jesus as the “Lamb of God”: “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’” [John 1:29]
We can see that in the Gospel of Matthew, Mary Magdalene is presented as having found the tomb empty, but after that she actually encountered Jesus as she was running away from the tomb. In the Gospel of John, Mary Magdalene is also presented as having found the tomb empty. However, after she flees the tomb she doesn’t encounter Jesus but instead runs to the disciples and tells them that the body of Jesus had been stolen. Now, these two accounts of the resurrection are a contradiction; if Mary Magdalene met Jesus at the tomb, as Matthew says, then why did she report that the body had been stolen, according to John ?

I like that NT Wright brings up, "Teach someone to think in Christ.”
As I see it, the springboard of Paul's presentations is summarized in the two choices he gave to Felix and Drusilla in Acts 24:24-26: "Faith in Jesus Christ" or "righteousness, self-control and the coming judgment." Which will it be?
Paul’s letters then walk his readers through how he thinks. They’re organic beginning with this agreed-to proposition of faith in Jesus Christ. They are “if this then that" kind of discussions.
Problem is we sincere Christians will take Paul conclusions-and turn them into a verse-by-verse “believe this and do that” religion, rather than understand his whole argument.
Knowing how Paul thinks however, we should be able to begin at the same place, and come to the same conclusions.

    • @fleetwd1
      @fleetwd1  Před 4 lety +1

Paul was not opposed to righteousness, self control or the judgment to come as if it is juxtaposed to faith in Christ. the one leads to the other just as cause leads to effect. Faith in Christ bring completeness based upon the gift of God's righteousness demonstrated in the Christ event. When we believe we become one with him and the Holy Spirit which Jesus deserves becomes ours and then "the righteousness of the Law shall be fulfilled in us who walk not by the flesh but by the Spirit." However, "by the righteousness of the law shall no flesh be justified." The righteousness of God in Christ is what justifies. it is the cause the righteousness of the Law that shall be fulfilled in us is the effect. They are not juxtaposed as if opposites one leads to the other. Paul writings are full of exhortations after he conveys the Gospel of God's covenantal faithfulness manifested in Jesus' death for sin and resurrection for our justification. God's work is the basis of our inclusion into God's people. But as citizens of the kingdom we embrace "righteousness, self control and (we look forward) to the coming judgment" where we will be fully restored. We now only have a down payment but then we will be fully clothed in righteousness. We are declared to be complete in Christ and we strive to become what we are said to be. But our stiving does not lead to God's righteousness, it is only the result of it. Many distort Paul by thinking he advocates faith is juxtaposed to Law. But he claims "faith establishes the Law.." It puts it into proper perspective. God's work done "for us" results in God's work "in us." the two are not equal they need to be distinguished but they are not in opposition they come together. One is primary and the other is secondary but noone will be saved without both being evidenced.

    • @tedclemens4093
      @tedclemens4093 Před 4 lety +1

@@fleetwd1 Mankind's answer to injustice is righteousness. But people naturally understand righteousness as a consequence of self-control according to some standard of judgment (as in the Law). Jesus didn't propose righteousness as the answer to injustice, but mercy-and a union with himself-a yoking as in a bride and bridegroom. A simple relationship. That relationship forms the basis for any righteousness that results. So as the letters argue, the believer's righteousness is in God himself, and his justification is by faith.

I think this is important to consider.
The snake is language, and the devil is evolution.
There was this lady Eve, and she knew this fellow Adam, and they lived in a garden. The garden of Eden, a garden which covered the whole of our blue-green earth.
One day, Eve ate some fruit, and she evolved the ability of language, and her words flew through the garden telling Adam everything he did right, everything wrong, everything good, everything evil. And so, Eve had developed the ability of thought, but it came at a price for language displaces instincts and so she could no longer live in the garden as did the bears and the wolves and the chickadees.
Now Eve wasn’t just one woman, she was all of women, kind or otherwise, in her day’s journey of evolution, and Adam wasn’t just one man, kind or otherwise, he was all of men in his day’s journey of evolution, and a day is one-seventh of a measure of time, as in they were living in the seventh age of creation and God is resting.
And we might recall that Adam was found to be naked, and that’s not to say he wasn’t adorned with a fig leaf-pattered shirt, but rather that he had lost the thick coat of fur that had once covered his human body. And with the loss of fur, his exposed skin evolved the ability to sweat, keeping him cool and allowing him to toil upon the soil for the not-so-symbolic fruit of labor.
But what of the snake? That slithering symbol of evolution gave Eve the first words ever spoken, “And it was Gossip.”
Attached to old ideas? Is it time for new interpretations?

Marcionism... That is what kept Paul alive in the post Christian Jewish era.. and when Roman Christianity needed an authority to defend it's evil and corrupt doctrines of predestination, original sin, denial of free will, denial of man made in the image of a Holy God and the enduring and eternal moral Law of God, it found a friend in "Brother Paul" (not an apostle or disciple of Jesus according to Peter) . Ap. Paul never invented any theology. Dissociating his testimony from Christ is very dangerous and will only lead to self-absorbed men, who have always wanted the opportunity to "make the gospel relevant today", think they can also reinterpret scripture to make it palatable to our generation.
    Galatians 1:11-12
For I certify to you, brothers, that the gospel I preached was not devised by man.
I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.
Then again was it Apos Pauls teaching all by himself? Otherwise how was Apos Peter privy to the content in 2 Peter 2:15-16?
We have confirmation in Galatians 2:1-2 that it was a message confirmed with Peter and John, at least, in Jerusalem:
    Galatians 2:1-2
Fourteen years later I went up again to Jerusalem, accompanied by Barnabas. I took Titus along also.
I went in response to a revelation and set before them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. But I spoke privately to those recognized as leaders, for fear that I was running or had already run in vain.
This issue arose because some false brothers had come in under false pretenses to spy on our freedom in Christ Jesus, in order to enslave us.
We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel would remain with you.
If any have invented a theology it is those of the trinitarians or modalists who, without any authorization, have gone beyond scripture to teach their concept of god and based their whole faith about that concept. They teach that unless you believe in a trinity you do not know the real Messiah therefore you are not saves. This is false teaching and beyond scripture. It is idolatry because they strive to create a concept of God beyond what The Lord Himself has seen sufficient for us to know for our salvation.

Well according to Luke who wrote the book of Acts, in chapter 19, demonic spirits knew the authority of Jesus and Paul.
Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.

According to Luke who wrote the book of Acts, in chapter 19, demonic spirits knew the authority of Jesus and Paul.

It depends on what you mean by theology. By normal Protestant definition what the author of Hebrews calls "the elementary teachings of Christ" (Hebrews 6) namely "repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, and of instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment" are NOT theology. "Theology" in Protestant terms, and even in Catholic terms, is CHRISTOLOGY. Jesus taught a moral system built around faith in God and ending in judgement based on works. Paul and friends taught christology about Jesus which began as adoptionist (even in Paul) but ultimately ended up as Arian christology (as in Colossians), and Paul in particular ended up bolderizing Jesus' teachings, as the writer in Hebrews 6 says "Therefore let us leave behind the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity" meaning that Paul and the followers of his heresy believed Jesus' own teachings were infantile but their nonsense is mature.

The Bible is the authority, it trumps scholarly concensus. The Bible is the inspired Word of God, God-breathed. God can not lie Titus 1:2 . The Bible holds all the answers: Compare scripture with scripture just as the Bible tells us: "For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line: here a little and there a little" (Isaiah 28:10). The Bible is not one book but 66 books written over a period of 1500 years. The Bible is the authority on the Bible! Jesus himself said in John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, "he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you." IITim3:16 "All scripture is "given by inspiration of God", and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. 2 Peter 1:21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but "men spoke from God" as they were carried along "by the Holy Spirit." Job 32:8 But it is the spirit in man, the "breath of the Almighty", that makes him understand. 2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. Revelation 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, "being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen," in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household.

Thank you for your thought. Some hold to the idea you express, however I don't agree with that. Except where Paul "says" he speaks for himself on certain points for example having to do with marriage (I Cor 7) we know that the Bible says ALL scripture is given by "inspiration" which means "God breathed". So, to say that Paul is not inspired is really quite an amazing conclusion you have drawn. The Apostle Paul was CHOSEN, singled out by God on the Damascus Road. Your ideas are contrary to the truth in the Word of God. That's between you and the Lord, but it has nothing to do with whether Paul was inspired, because the Word says differently than your words.
      2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. Peter, it is the authoritative Word of God.

Its amazing to say Paul is not inspired because Paul says "All scripture is inspired"? Really? First, Paul doesn't say that. A good case can be made that it should be translated not "All scripture is inspired and is profitable..." but "All scripture that is inspired is also profitable..." But be that as it may. Its pretty obvious that when Paul says "All scripture is inspired" he obviously isn't referring to his own writings, but to the Old Testament and the Gospels. How can anyone brainwash themselves into thinking that he's self-referencing here? Only by brainwashing themselves, obviously, but that's just plain absurd.

As for Acts, Luke accurately records Paul's bogus claims and later embellishments of his conversion story as the lie evolves in Paul's mouth over time. Luke's accurate recording of this information is a confirmation that there is something deeply wrong with Paul, not a confirmation of Paul's story (actually, stories, plural). And one thing to be noted of special significance is that Luke never calls Paul an apostle except in one verse where he's second fiddle to Barnabas "The apostles Barnabas and Paul rent their clothes." In what sense is Barnabas, here given seniority over Paul, an apostle? In the sense that he was sent out by the church at Antioch, an apostle of men, an apostle of a congregation, not of Jesus Christ. Paul lies in Galatians disclaiming that he's an apostle of men in the same sense as Barnabas, saying "Paul, an apostle not of men nor by man but by Jesus Christ," but Luke already exposed him as merely an apostle of men like Barnabas so the gig is up.

Jesus was born a Jew, sent to the Jews as a messiah. He lived his life and prayed and followed all the laws of Jews. His enemies were Jews as he challenged their evil ways calling them evil generation, snakes and other names. The Jews went against them complained to Pilate and had him arrested.Jesus never wanted to die.He hid in the Garden and prayed to his God to be saved.
Paul in his own ideas, brought up this ""sacrifice for sins "" plea.
When his preaching to Jews did not work then he turns to gentiles AGAINST the direct commands of Jesus NOT to preach to nonjews[Mathews10:6].
It is Paul who changed religion to make it easy and said laws need not be followed. This is again against the command of Jesus who said"" keep the law""
Millions of Christians have gone off the track with the false notion that sins are paid for.
Read the gospels and follow the commands of Jesus and leave this deviant ideas of paul Your deeds will save you not the messiah.or his suffering.

+mohammad fazal Rahman Perhaps not quite.
Jesus didn't call 'Jews' 'snakes and other names.' He called the stubborn Pharisees that, for they were teachers and should have known better than to be so wrong about God. Nor were Jesus' 'enemies' Jews. All of his disciples were Jews, the first Christians were Jews, and crowds of them 'heard him gladly.'
Jesus said before he ever got to Jerusalem that he was going there to die. Peter told him not to, and Jesus corrected him.
Matthew 28 has the Great Commission in it in which Jesus sends his apostles to 'all the world.'
Jesus didn't say 'keep the law.' He himself contradicted several time-honored (or hide-bound) laws concerning the Sabbath and dining with 'sinners.' As to the Torah, he did keep that, but taught his disciples to think and to understand the Law, and to do its purpose: the two Great Commands.
Paul and Peter were both sent by God to nonjews, and not to tell them to become Jews, but to tell them the Gospel.
Deeds will never save. Faith does (Habakkuk 2:4; Hebrews 10:38) and the sacrifices---commanded in the Torah---do not, either (Isaiah 1:11; Ho. 6:6;Psalm 50:13-15).
Faith does. Paul knew that as he says in Romans and Galatians.

The prophet never wavers from his mission. We are told about Noah and Lot among others to emphasize this point.
      I question the bible narative.
Mathews 28 tells Jesus told disciples to go to Gallilee[200 km north of Jerusalem.] and from there he ascends to heaven. This should be the greatest miracle where every body is seeing Jesus go into the sky!!
However in Luke we are told Jesus took his followers to BETHANY[5 km from Jerusalem] and ascended to heaven from there witnessed by his disciples.
In ACTS 1:4 jesus tells his disciples NOT to leave Jerusalem for 50 days.till passover.

The quotes in big blue bars put me off at first, but they also did the trick. Once I realized how central the first two blue-barred statements were, I learned to love them. "The Jews did not ask how they could understand God more." "The Jews did ask, 'When is God coming back?'" I hear the siren song of full preterism (not from NT Wright, of course -- just in my own mind). What do you think about the sky rolling up like a scroll? It seems to me the only apocalyptic imagery left after 70 AD is the remaking of the heavens and the earth. Could the sky/scroll image be interpreted as the fulfillment of the old covenant, and following that, the new covenant as the remaking?
Then of course, there's the general resurrection. I'll follow the good bishop's inaugerated eschatology until I become overwhelmingly convinced of preterism, but that sure would make my life easier.

The Cross of Jesus was actually the turning point. The theology difference before the atonement and after the atonement by Jesus death and resurrection on the cross. Jesus was born under the mosaic laws, living in the mosaic laws. But that transforms to God's Grace after His resurrection.
