This should be 3 different apartments at different price points in the same city...itd be more interesting to also see the lower price range, the average and the luxary.
BuzzFeed Worth It: Apartments 😁
Agree, although everything is expensive in Sydney. Large tv boxes rent as $350/week studio apartments.
Im honestly blown away by this series. In every city the rent is so high that renters usually have to share to afford it. I can't imagine the average renter can afford to save up to buy their own place someday. It's really sobering.
No wonder Tiny Homes have become a huge Trend.
Just move somewhere cheaper no?
Ju where there are no jobs?
@@Koriannae No, just drive to work easy. For example Madrid is expensive so I just live in Castilla in the countryside, finca with some horses while the people you work with only have a simple flat. I am soon buying a flat in Madrid and since I'm not there all days it will be on AirBnB too. It is very practical
@@hayati6374 LOL try driving from country NSW to Sydney City every day. You will be wasting 6 hours a day driving.
Any safiya nygaard fans notice something familiar about the intro?
Jenna L I was looking for this comment
Yup
Yeah..
Okay. Just realizing it after reading this comment. Went and check to see and yup.
But maybe it sounds similar?
I thought the exact same thing 😂
I'd love to see a northern European city. Especially Stockholm!
Draco Malfoy god they’ll all be super rich 😂😂😂 but anyway I love Sweden/ Scandinavia!
And I would absolutely love to see Hogwarts
I've stayed in AirBnBs in Stockholm and Copenhagen. Also one in Björkliden which isn't an apartment but still pretty cool. My favourite is the Copenhagen AirBnB. The Stockholm one is cozy but too small
C'mon man you live in Hogwarts why would you want to see any other place in the world
Do Ireland next! Thank you for changing the format, it's so much easier to follow now.
Ireland is not a city.. There is Cork, there is Galway, there is Dublin..
@@hayati6374 yeah I know, I was leaving options open because there are so many cool cities in Ireland.
they only gonna show 3000 euro apartments which is not how people usually live
I feel like you've could've shown much more diversity Marrickville, Paddington and Coogee and all south of the bridge and geographically quite close- considering what a sprawling city Sydney is. Could've shown some western suburb commuters, north syd, even Sutherland shire next to the national park (or otherwise near some local bush).
Come on, Buzzfeed ain't gonna go anywhere west of Petersham out of fear of getting shot or stabbed in a carjacking. :D
@@jonathantan2469 😂😂😂 that seems to be their thinking. Still, they could've done something like Chatswood, Cronulla and Newtown. A tiny bit of diversity plz. But yeah, some real diversity would've been nice.
Massive laundry at Paddington place.....by the way..Paddington is a very expensive inner Sydney suburb....
The last apartment is soooo beautiful
I’d love to see Barcelona/Paris/Rome and one in Eastern Europe like Kiev/Tallinn
Forget about Kiev for now.
Come do an episode in Canada! Vancouver...Toronto...Montreal...
But like, where do regular people live? 😅
I used to live in Newtown. I wish I could remember how much I paid. It was nice and I’ve never been the highest earner
I thought this is just how much all apartments costed in Sydney. It's a super expensive Sydney. A million dollars would buy you a shoebox. I havent lived there personally. I'm in Brisbane Australia, and most people I know have apartments at about $500 per week. Fancier places will be up to $1000 but not as much. I swear I have the cheapest place in the city at $280 per week. Wages are lower in Brisbane than Sydney though.
It all depends ( obviously) on where you live. You can rent a 3/4 bedroom house for $500.00 a week in outer suburbs of sydney/ blue mountains
I pay $950 for a 3 bed house with a pool. No way I could afford those places on my income alone. I support a family of 4 and it's tight even with my cheap rent!
Those are regular people if you live in eastern Sydney
As someone who lives in the Canadian cookie cutter suburbs....these Australian houses have such beautiful architectural features....red clay tiles, hanging lights with moulding, arched doorways. 💁
It partially depends on when the building was built. Australia had a housing boom in the late 60's - mid 70's that resulted in mass production of apartment units that are all very similar. Many still have the original tiles that are easily recognizable. A 2 bedroom units are around 55-65sqm, when the upper levels have a small balcony if they're lucky.
Believe me. ALOT of Aussie apartments are ugly
The Paddington house in the middle is in a particularly old (by Australian standards) inner city suburb that has gone through a lot of gentrification. I'd say it's old enough to be Victorian era - which is why it has those high ceilings and ornate features. Most houses in Australia and Sydney are not nearly as old or as elaborate as that. So it's not a good example of a typical or average Sydney house anymore (though it's probably a good example of Sydney's specifically inner city Victorian-era houses).
This whole video focusses south of the harbour from the beaches to the inner west. Not a huge area. Sydney is a sprawling city, so geographic area selected in this video isn't particularly big.
Australia has a lot of cookie-cutter suburban homes though. These examples in this video are all close to the city center. If you go to the middle to outer suburbs, you'll see lots & lots of suburban type single-household developments. The idea of raising a family in an apartment, townhouse, or above-shop unit is still seen as abnormal in Australia.
They listened to us!
I never realized how attractive Sydney is, it’s pulling me lol! I thought Ryan’s Goldilocks yard was wonderful, but Abby’s apartment is HUGE, and with fabulous views out of so many enormous windows! You’re so fortunate to live in such a sun-drenched place, Abby (and with such a hottie).
4000$ a Month ??? I am wondering how much people make like omg
For them to be paying 4k per month, they would be earning around $1000p/w before taxes (which is fairly average in Australia for mid-tier jobs), that's with flatmates of course. If they are by themselves or a couple - they would be around $1200p/w each).
@@ChaoticShelly i make 1000-1800/w but i live in 150 shared room to save cost
aud not usd
I live in parramatta sydney.. it is becoming a mini CBD western suburb lately... lot of corporate and business offices has made it their hub.. better then living in city where rent is so high approx. $ 1000 a week on average... any ways parramatta rentals are not so cheap as well....
I pay around $550 for a two bed- two bath apartment what is also 10 minutes walk from Parramatta station that has trains to city in 30 min or more amd every other corner of city .. so it is like a centralised train station....
We have quiet the secong biggest westfield that is also 10 min. Walk from my.place what makes it easier for shopping and other.
Living in this place for 6+ years and never had any issues.....
Sydney is a beautiful but also the busiest and hectic city at the same time...quality of life definitely depends on your Job profile..... but on an average you can have decent lifestyle here .....
People are nice and polite... not much of a crime .. it is one of the safest city in the world.
not surprised that the comments are surprised about the cost here. within an hour radius of the CBD, pretty much everything is expensive compared to a lot of other major cities, aside from out west i guess.
The prices here are almost 1.5X of Melbourne. Plus inner-city to city centre Melbourne is easy to get around due to the tram network, and abundance of bicycle lanes. And unlike Sydney, the terrain is pretty flat.
Ah, another MELB vs. SYD quarrel again...
Watching these videos before going to bed to remind myself how poor I am
I'm with you
All the places are beautiful, all are decorated perfectly 😊
Did anyone else notice Australians are the only ones is this series that speak for rent on a weekly basis instead of month ?
Nice to see you guys took the advice to show one apartment at a time. Much better good job.
And somehow these apartments are still bigger than NY apartments! Nice!
Isn't that the case almost everywhere?
Australian apartments were mostly built in the 60's-70's and are 2 bedrooms, 55-65sqm.
sydney has nowhere near the population density of nyc
Hope you can make a San Diego version!! Would love to be a part of it 😊 I’m such a huge BuzzFeed fan!
Australian rent is based per week rather than per calendar month.
Yes, we pay per calendar month but the price is per week.
the last one has an accent thats like a mix of american, british and australian
It’s old. It was build in the 80’s😂. I’m a 70’s baby. I feel old. 😁
The house I live in was built in 16th century haha that was cute to say from her 😅
Totally agree. While no building in Sydney is more than 200 years, I personally wouldn’t say any flat was old in Sydney unless it was built before WWII. I don’t think there are many, if any purpose built flats before WWI.
But when you go to Europe you find apartments built centuries ago.
Why don’t more people know about this channel? So goooooood
that feeling when a cat has a nicer bathroom than you
I felt it
Im a dane and all of the furniture reminded me of my childhood in the 90s especially the kitchen with the small rounded chairs.
Yep - I don't know if this is true in the rest of the world but definitely in Australia Danish furniture is very trendy
I love this series sooo much
Want something different try Tallinn Estonia!
should have shown some western sydney apartments, like parramatta or blacktown. coogee paddington and marrickville are all pretty expensive
A'd be glad to shoot for y'all apartment tour in switzerland...
I’m so glad I don’t live in Sydney anymore. The rent is the same price as a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom HOUSE, not apartment! Sydney housing is so overrated out of all cities in Australia (I’ve lived in Melbourne, Brisbane & Perth).
What's your favorite? I would love to visit Brisbane, and my bro wants to move there.
No one really likes it anymorez it getting deserted
chigasaki06 highly recommend Brisbane! There’s a reason why it’s called the “sunshine state”
@@MitchellBPYao why are u so salty? I live in Sydney and it’s not deserted at all. Probably the only city in the country that liveable right now. Melbourne shut down and Brisbane has been always a ghost town
@@eduard1215 Well ive been here a long time living with my parents as their are some areas like that
These tours are great but you really need to list the square footage. A 2 bedroom could be 500 or 2000 square feet -- big difference but it's hard to discern from a video. Listing the US cost would be helpful too although we can look up the exchange/conversion if so inclined.
Why the US cost? You can look up the exchange rate for any currency to any currency, doesn't have to based on just one place's. The world is big, the US is NOT the world.
@@triarb5790 Defensive much? I stated that we can all look up the exchange rate. I am asking as an American. If you want to ask for the cost in rubles or rupees be my guest.
@@tellthetruthna8523 why you americans are so entitled? Why should the whole world be bowing to US dollar?

At 3:47 the creepy half naked stalking neighbor immediately goes out to his balcony when she goes outside to show her balcony. The guy is brushing his teeth. But, he is so focused on her that while brushing his teeth he goes to stalk her. If I was her, I would put a curtain on that kitchen door and never go out to that balcony again.
The appartments are so clean just like in the catalogues. Do they really live there? Do they have a payed cleaning person? If I have to present my appartment I would need 3 weeks for preparing it...
Really beautiful homes.
I love Coogie beach when I went to visit! . Definitely great place to be. So many active and athletic locals there.
The frame rate of the B footage and paning up and down, up and down, left and right had my head hurting. Shoot it at 60fps to stop that motion.
Pls do Melbourne!!! Thankssss 💙
Shoot one in Sao Paulo!
I'm moving back to Sydney from NYC in January. Excited to find a new apartment 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 I moved away from Sydney back when I was a poor student and living in a v v cheap place. Been a few years since
That's so funny I'm moving back to Sydney too from NYC in January too!
@@imherelulwow! That's cool! Seems like a good time to leave NYC 😬
@@CaseyLouise149 why are u leaving nyc.
@@CaseyLouise149 nyc is better, no?
I'm confused. She said they pay 700 and split into 350 each. You wrote AUD 3000. AUD 3000 is approximately $2,188. So what currency is she referring to when she says 700?
Nevermind lmao she said 700 A WEEK. Had to watch that over haha
Australian rents are priced weekly, not per calendar month. This is largely due to people being paid on a weekly or fortnightly (2 weeks) basis.
Australians Be Like:
Aye Yesss Thats Where I Stay! Aka Me! 😂💯 Haha!!
You guys should do Cape Town South Africa
How about some more affordable options in the area? The homes were great but way above what I could afford. I support my family of 4.
Do aussies get paid per week compared to most americans getting paid bi-weekly. Cause paying the rent or mortgage weekly seems alot to me. But seriously these homes are beautiful
Jumping in as a representative for all Aussies - pay cycles vary depending on different workplaces, sometimes weekly, sometimes monthly or bi-weekly (we can that fortnightly). But rent is typically paid monthly, but always advertised as a weekly cost.
@@NeatNeat121 thank you for answering. I was shocked when everyone kept saying they pay weekly
@@NeatNeat121 I've always known rent to be paid weekly, mortgages monthly or fornightly.
The cost is advertised per week because months may have four or five weeks. So the rent is calculated by week to accommodate this. Weekly rent x 52 weeks. Divided by 12. You usually pay by the month.
I've always paid by the week, and it's convenient because most jobs I've had I get paid either weekly or fortnightly.
Do the East Coast of Canada. Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island or New Brunswick.
Do one in Boston!
Do Buenos Aires, Argentina!
do Brasil or Mexico!!!!!!!!
broooo living in sydney is so expensive like if u dont have a job how are u gonna live? 3,000 aud per month like who earns that? crazy crazyyyyy
But these are all units with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms and they're splitting the costs. So it's not that expensive. And a single would be cheaper than 3000
Vicky M lmao like im only willing to pay rent 150 max haha :))
who tf doesn't have a job lmao
Is it normal to pay per week in australia?
It's normal to pay monthly, but prices are always advertised as a weekly cost.
@@NeatNeat121 oooh interesting
I used to pay per week but that was out in the suburbs not near the city
Yes it is. Rent is advertised at a weekly rate and is usually paid weekly unless you negotiate otherwise. Most Aussies get paid weekly or fortnightly.
Michelle X I’ve been a renter in both Sydney and Melbourne for 15yrs. I’ve never paid weekly. Also, most full time employees are paid monthly. Rent is advertised as ‘per week’ but 90% people pay this monthly.
A bedroom with no window ? I'll probably die of claustrophobia .
Compared to where I live Sydney seems pretty affordable.
well none of these apartments were in the city, and they were still expensive asf
Please do Scotland
I really can't understand why Australian pay their rent per week. It is so expensive also. Like Hong Kong expensive.
It makes a difference to how you are paid. I pay my mortgage monthly, but get paid fortnightly (most Australians are paid weekly or fortnightly). It is much easier to budget if you pay your housing at the same frequency as you are paid.
Why did she turn Californian at 3:06?
Soo do Toronto ... and maybe London England
Very lovely apartments.
Can we talk about the popper on the guy's bedside table pls
Wow didn't realize that. Guess someone's staying busy during the pandemic.
I forgot how expensive Australian cities are. Sheesh 😬
Do they pay monthly? Because they keep saying weekly
Sometimes we pay monthly but it’s mainly weekly
1) Voice over didn't pronounce Coogee and Marrackville probably. 2) A townhouse isn't an apartment... other than than great job.
Whats up with the weekly rent. Is that common in Australia..?
Yep I've always paid rent weekly
Please do Melbourne!
Sooooo overpriced, that's why this Sydneysider left. Tied of most of my pay going to rent. Moved overseas, live by the beach with a million dollar views and saving money 😁

Kmart. I laughed when I saw it. Exactly the same as mine
@@cocoacoolness thanks for the response. Unfortunately I live in canada and we don’t have K-Mart . So won’t be able to buy it . 😕
Omg I hate how the rent is measured in months rather than weeks. In Australia we talk about rent price per week, so trying to convert it from months is so confusing. Like, how the heck do I convert that? Some months will be 30 days long and others 31, and don’t even mention February! Like why can’t it be measured in WEEKS, it’s so much easier, ffs America 😤
Maip video a 30 day month is 4 weeks and 2 days long. The only months that works for is February
To weekly rental into monthly rental you multiply by 52 and divide by 12.
Hi
can you do buffalo, ny next?
lol hell no

All I heard in the beginning was Safiya’s intro
Hahaha same
Do one in Toronto, Canada and feature me. I'll get you millions of views
This is nice and all, but I would really appreciate if you would portray what real people live like. These people pay more in rent than I earn in a month. Please also branch outside of places like "Sydney, Rome, London, San Francisco." Show us how people in Grafton, Australia live.
Agree Thaliasghost. I knew before clicking it would be Eastern Beaches and Paddington.
Can’t answer for Grafton, but in Armidale rents are from the low $200s per week up to about $400 per week.
Do Singapore 🇸🇬
hdbs lmaoooooo
Coogee
Malaysia please 😅
why most of them "rent" and not "buy" the apartment?
Housing price in Australia urban area is very high. They cannot afford.
Each of the properties in the video could easily be from 800k(coogee apartment)-2million(Paddington terrace house). Buying property in Sydney is incredibly difficult and wage stagnation means that most young people no longer earn enough on entry level incomes to afford to purchase a house. On top of this property prices have increased so fast due to a lot of factors. Basically a bunch of rich old people are buying up all the houses to rent them out, meaning young people have little option but to rent.
i want to migrate to australia :)
