  • This video recounts Peruvian history starting from its first peoples all the way to Dina Boluarte's regime. It looks at its politics to explain why it is that Peru has struggled to construct and maintain democratic rule and looks at the Inca empire, independence under José de San Martin, the aristocratic republic, the Fujimori years and the recent political crises.

Small correction on the last part, the protests arrousing from Dina boluarte's ascencion where very different from teh 2020's one, mostly in the kind of people and the amount of them that participated, by comparison, while 2020's protest was absolutely massive in lima and other cities, the most recent one had a very unnatural and reduced atendance, being more known for the more agresive actions of the protestors, who were mainly peasants and rural folks in very particular southern parts of the nation, who felt represented by castillo, corrupt as he was, and knew nothing of why coups were, well, bad, nor of impeachments, nor any other sort of legal happening, they jsut perceived their " representation" had been done dirty, and a good chunk marched for it.
The protest grew dire when attempts to take strategical infraestructure (aka, airport, gas plants, highway, what not), was answered with an unmeasured show of force by the military, with plenty dead.
Of course, the sad reality of peru is that a 100 dead in the provinces dosen't even amount to one death in the capital, by comparison, it didn't help that most of the citizenship looked at these protest extremely unfavorly, and took the protestors, no matter who tehy truly were, as mere vandals and thiefs using the pretext to sack and destroy(wich, truth be told, had some base, many a ilegal miner and druglord used the protest to sneakily burn police stations and justice department locals were the registers of their wrogndoings were stored or managed.)

Protests were massive in the south and they were brought to Lima a month after the illegal deposicion of Castillo, by then 40+ citizens were executed by the army and the police. No protestors were tried nor convicted for vandalism or extreme violence to this day, leading to suspect attacks on judiciary institutions were false flag operations as the pattern repeated in many cities in the south. Ties to illegal mining activities and drug trafficking had been discredited as no proof was provided by gov officials to this day. Some people particularly in Lima keep regurgitating whatever they hear from media corporations monopolizing opinion in tv and newspapers

covering political parties and the army isnt very useful if we dont understand the economic powers and structures they represent. The question of who owns and controls the country's resources is a good place to start.

It is something part of our essence 🗿. It is not for nothing that the largest popular and most powerful party (which is not saying much, really) is the party of the daughter of Alberto Fujimori, the last dictator, and her release from prison is popular (or at least it did not generate a strong reaction against him)

@paologutarra2708 that's what happens when you let an elite that built an apartheid state stay in power after you emancipate the indigenous peasants. Her supporters are all rich white guys who want to introduce another complete overroll of the countries economy. Same reason castillo was couped.
