Vernon Army Cadet Camp 1994 ...the documentary
Part 5 of 10 feature length 1 hr documentary copyright 1994 AVS Inc.
The first feature length documentary I produced on life at camp. 60 mins total length
Between 1994 and 2007, I spent my summers at Vernon shooting and creating a documentary that each year showed what camp life was like. The videos evolved from 60 minutes in 1994 to just over 2 hrs a few years later. I interviewed hundreds of cadets and staff, asking them what it was all about. Then, I'd spend autumn editing the 10-20 hours of raw footage down to a cohesive story. several days were devoted to writing the script and narration was added. Finally with the kind assistance of my friends, Wayne Emde with a selection of his photos and Ed Liukaitis with his brilliant and effective graphics design, a video cover would be created, each year those covers became a work of art. Many more days were spent duplicating the master copy to VHS, later high-speed DVD duplication made the process a little easier. At last I would ship this videos of across Canada to waiting cadets. I sometimes wonder what it was like to pen the package in the mail and watch it for the first time.
    It was certainly worth it.
There are so many people to thank, people who saw my vision and enabled these snapshots of history to occur. Thank you - Wayne Emde; Maj Knobby Clarke (for making it happen in '94); LCol Terry Kopan; LCol Allan Dengis; Col Doug Walton; LCol Fern Daigneault; Cdr Barry Saladana; Maj Russ Lacey; Maj Mitch Steck; Capt Faye Shore and so many other wonderful people. You were all patient and amazingly helpful. Thank you...

Well because the C1's are no longer the service rifle. And the CF paraded with the C1's. It creates a distinction between a Soldier and a Cadet. Plus now all AR/BR's are restricted firearms. So getting the rifles for use outside of camp is near impossible. Even now, try talking the CO of a Reserve COY to let some cadets use C&'s for drill. Mind you fully operational C7's.
