Matilda Wormwood (Alisha Weir) is a little girl with big curiosity, a sharp mind and a vivid imagination - and the worst parents in the world. While her parents (Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough) content themselves with trashy TV and dodgy money-making schemes, she loves to lose herself in the pages of her beloved books. Where they are loud, selfish and unkind she is a quiet observer, thinking up small and cheeky acts of rebellion and revenge.
On meeting her inspirational teacher, Miss Honey (Lashana Lynch), Matilda is encouraged and begins conjuring her own fantastical tales. Excited to attend Crunchem Hall, Matilda is surprised to find the school is an ominous and oppressive place led by the huge and villainous Miss Trunchbull (Emma Thompson).
As well as kind Miss Honey, the bright lights among the meanness are story-loving librarian, Mrs. Phelps (Sindhu Vee), and Matilda’s newfound school friends. Filled with an overwhelming sense of justice, Matilda dares to take a stand for what is right and teach Trunchbull a lesson she won’t forget.
Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical is an inspirational musical tale of an extraordinary girl who discovers her superpower and summons the remarkable courage, against all odds, to help others change their stories, whilst also taking charge of her own destiny. Standing up for what’s right, she’s met with miraculous results.
Directed by Tony Award-winning director Matthew Warchus (Matilda The Musical), the film is produced by Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan for Working Title, Jon Finn (Billy Elliot), and Luke Kelly of The Roald Dahl Story Company. Screenwriter Dennis Kelly adapts the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production for the big screen, with original music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.

Meesha Garbett with red beret absolutely killed it. She ate and left no crumbs.
That entrance is so 🔥 I thought I was watching Step Up dance off
This comment haha

love hortensia
@@jar768jake from toastee no less!
Whoever is the choreographer, hats off to them!! Amazing!! And the immense talent of these kids bodes well for the future!!!
Credits to the people that works on the Broadway musicals that went to work on this movie to make sure that it would be as good. If not better. 🙌🏻
Couldn’t disagree more. Hate this style
Of dance. It’s too pronounced and try hard
@@josephtdi8764 Cry about it
@@josephtdi8764 "no it's the children who are wrong"
@@josephtdi8764 I guess we've found the human equivalent of a black hole
Jesus those kids! Do they take their morning coffee with Ecstasy? How are they this talented AND skilled? This is mind-blowing, honestly.
they're dwarfs from the circus and theature i think
you don't know what ecstasy does, do you?
@@troublebreathing8648 they are children those kids are dancers
@@emptyingmyballsinyomommymouth Yeah ecstasy would not make you want to dance like this, maybe speed?
@@anonymousfox7219 Depends on how smacky it is. 🥰
This is exactly how you make a movie musical!
Yess and not just have ppl randomly singing instead did talking
If you wanna see a quality movie musical, make sure you watch in the heights
@@9cloudrachel207 I saw it and it was brilliant
Yes the clip is quite good
yeah I love it even more if my name wasn't Matilda
That roll she did at the “we’re a little bit naughty” part is my favorite. Ties the whole hallway choreo part together!
Yh that's my fav part aswell
Right? It's so satisfying 😂
I love that they gave this song to Bruce and Hortensia giving the other kids besides Matilda a chance to shine.
Thats what I loved about it, every kid got their moment
Okay, Hortensia is clearly gonna steal whatever scene she is featured in. Fierce moves and big energy from her and I'm loving it. Her and Bruce leading the revolt is pretty awesome. And the energy that these kids are bringing is insane! 26 more days everyone (except for the UK, lucky ducks!)!
Is the red beret girl Hortensia ? I'd headcanoned that she was Amanda Thripp having cut off her pigtails post-throwing, but I didn't watch the trailers carefully enough to see if it was the same face.
@@oosakasan
Yup, That’s Hortensia.
@@oosakasanjust watched the movie. Can confirm Amanda keeps her pigtails throughout the whole thing
Also Australia lol, saw it today
@@oosakasan We saw it the other day, and my mum thinks that it's based off of Nazi rule, and the concentration camps, so she thought that Hortensia might represent the French revolution (hence the beret and french music that was playing in the background when she first comes in the at the start)
They need to add a choreographer section to the Academy Awards. This clip is more evidence of that fact.
There would only be like 2 nominations a year haha
Is quality of choreography measured by volume of moves these days or what
The eye roll during " a little bit naught". I want to be like girl you don't have to go so hard.
That's what I'm saying! Her facials are on point
... these kids have more swagger than any of us will ever have in our lifetime. holy crap
I didn't think this version could beat the Dani Davito 90s film, Boy was I wrong! This is a classic! Everything from the music, sets and cast was on point!
The book is the original the musical is very true to the book than my favourite movie was. They are based both on two characters playing in musical match the characters in book. The girl looks absoutely spit and dabs of matilda lol.
not fan of musical than won west end awards been running for 15 years.
@@thedusty194 her voice was amazing wdym?
@BigBruh very sus
@BigBruh She was I know she person of colour but anyone can play miss honey.
Can we appreciate the fact that studios are going oh wait let’s just put the actual musical to film and give it a big budget instead of trying to remake them! So far we have had so many good musicals to film lately dear even Hansen , Matilda , in the heights ! I can’t wait to see what’s next
im sorry but respectfully, in the heights was a mess!
I'm all for musical films, but Dear Evan Hansen was not it :( I do hope we get much more tho!
I'm waiting for Wicked
@@goooooorkyoit’s happening it’s coming out December 22nd of this year
@@Zoeysplaylist824 NO WAY
These children are dancing better than like 95% of dancing in musicals I’ve seen
😢
I think its also because of the camera angles that make the dancing become more effective to the audiences
@@danvillealdyon YES! Getting a good director is so important for a musical movie, and a lot of directors don’t know how to direct great musical scenes (*cough cough* Tom Hooper)
Trust me it took agessss for us to learn we were doing the wrong bit at the wrong time they worked us ages for this but it was worth it in the end
@@Streetdancer-yd6mx we’re u in it if u were I loved u whoever you were and + how to become actor any like tips of how to be noticed by moviemakers and how to be emailed?
Meesha Garbett as Hortensia had such great screen presence for a character who had only about 10 minutes of screentime (If that), she's easily my favorite character of the movie alongside Emma Thompson as Trunchbull.
0:11 idk why but this part sends me 😭 i think its the way he’s hunched over idk
Kids dance chronograph that is better then most of us will ever do 😄😂
I mean…they are actors…
@@BennyBoy_Alpha not all can dance and sing. They all have their strengths 😃
@@BennyBoy_Alpha actors that doesn’t mean can dance and sing they are all got different talent

You ain’t gonna get a job in a musical unless you can sing, dance, AND act at the same time
@BigBruh I see the girl who was acting and dancing because she got talent the others are just actors they doing a cast to dancers too, not just actors is different sing and dancing people who knows how to sing and dance
red beret girl is going to end up doing amazing things. SO talented!!
She's got it all. Great singing, great acting, great dancing.. I'd love to see her in more films
Soooo good. Tim Minchin lyrics are phenomenal
I hope he does more Broadway musicals I loved all he has done so far! Matilda and ground hog day
I wondered who did the music and makes so much sense it’s him
No way these kids just busted out a Crip Walk. High School Musical eat your heart out.
Certainly one way to put it 💀
Should be called “Tim Minchin’s Matilda.” It’s a whole new experience...saw the play a few years back, it was incredible!

Bruce: Songs!
and then for the end, its "2-L-8-4-U WE R- EVOLTING"
Thanks Dr. Jones
I don’t know why but the quick shot of the boy yelling into his walkie cracks me up
Lol I agree, that cut was awkward and didn't fit. His movements don't match the tempo. But otherwise the clip is great.
Gotta say, SHE WAS THE DANCE
Damn did she put Gorilla glue on that red beret hat?! 😂
That red beret is GLUED to her head lmaooo
THE GIRL WHO STRUGGLED TO GET UP ON THE CABINET THEN SPRINGING OFF IT JUST BEWILDERS ME
I've been acting since I was 4 for red beret girl to eat in 40 seconds more than I have in my life
That’s how you clear a plate
She left no crumbs
Hortensia (red beret girl) is easily my favourite part of this musical. She’s in like 3 scenes and she became my celebrity crush from this movie.
YES!!! HORTENSIA IS THE BEST IN THIS AWEFUL MOVIE!!!!!
@@E.G.H.Espindola it's not awful
Love how they elevate the musical numbers for the film.
Those moves go wayyyyy to hard with that song!!😭
They didnt have to go that hard with the dance (btw u put that hallway scene to any song and its an immediate banger)😂
bruce and the beret girl are so much fun to watch, they absolutely NAILED this! everyone did, to be fair-- this carries the energy of the song absolutely flawlessly
Her name is Hortensia
Went to see it last night with my grandchildren. We all loved it. Fabulous!
It’s crazy how massive a part Hortensia has in this song, I did this in July, memories flow back. But Hortensia wasn’t really important except as a kid, it’s great to see her in a leading role especially as the actor smashed it!
I have always thought this song really lends itself to scale, thematically speaking, and seeing the director and production team lean into this feels faithful. I love it. It really encompasses a lot of those undercurrents already present in the song, “There are more of us than of you”, “many coming together as one voice” etc etc. and so that mob scene when there’s the clap breakdown and there’s easily 100 or more individuals on screen, clapping, stomping, dancing, waving signs or hanging out of windows?! Masterful.
What is the name of this song, please?
@@ss87935 It’s called “Revolting Children” and it’s an original for Matilda the Musical, music and lyrics by Tim Minchin
After this film's release, we'll officially have 2 Matilda movies in total. FABULOUS!
Holy shit! I must admit this was pretty damn impressive! I thought it was a CGI clip until I stepped up the quality and then realized these are kids dancing fast as hell like they're sped up, nope! Just that well done! Kudos to everyone involved. 👏
This has been the umpteenth time that I have watched this snippet, and I just noticed that the one piece uniforms are actually rompers! Not only the music, the choreography, and the cinematography are great, but the costumes are genius too!
The way they ate this up…
Hortensia (red beret girl) seriously threw her bag out the window like she’s always wearing it-
Why did they go so hard on this song. The lyrics and choreo was amazing 👏🏼
0:31 favorite dance move
Ok but like it’s crazy how talented all those kids where with some of these moves like the hallway scenes was hype the little girl flipping off the locker the step up down the hallway
The blonde girl with the red beret was just amazing! They were all really good, my daughter loved it❤
I saw this with Missy Elliott lose control song on it and I had to see the original. The song wasn't as intense for the choreography as I thought but those kids killed it.🙌🙌🙌
Same!! 😂
Same lol.
Same
Dang it. I’ve only seen this without any sound so far so I’m scared of being disappointed lol.
@@sosmooth13 the one with the missy Elliott music is way better
This film was AMAZING! Just saw it in theaters. Very emotional 🥲 People were actually crying in my theater. Very dark compared to the 1996 adaption in terms of themes and Ms. Trunchbull was almost 10x worse
The most exhilarating dance scene I've seen in a long time....I haven't seen the movie but I will definitely watch it
I watched this on Netflix. It is a good movie
When you let your kids drink coffee for the first time
I dont even know Matilda or anything about this movie. But lemme tell you this video actually got me so hooked! I love it! Cant wait for me and my kid to watch it❤️
That pose at 0:03 was literally fire 🔥 well done
I saw the play at the West End several times and it always shocked me seeing the kids dancing and singing like that, but this is off the charts.
HOW DID THE HAT STAY ON?!?!?!
Bruce is the goat in the song, he is so good at singing, i still dont know why some people hate bruce, he’s just THE GOAT
Red beret girl kills that choreography. So good.
Why can’t I stop watching this clip?! Just amazing
Choreography, dancers, filming, cinematography, everything perfect. At the end, it sounded like very few singers in a recording booth, very clean sound but not like what we see in the scene, with tons of children.
when y'all are ready to exit red beret tunnel vision. the two behind her are killing it!!
Agreed! I had to watch several times just see each one.
I don't even have words. 😂 This has got to be one of the best choreographed scenes I've ever seen.
I hope those kids got paid well, that choreography is insane
The beginning gave me goosebumps i cant move my body like that something is going to break
Did you see those air flips? Bro this musical is another level
This shit go hard
They need more views
Probably the most hyped dance scene I’ve ever seen from kids
The most hyped dance scene I've ever seen. Period.
This shit go the hardest I'm not even gonna lie
I'm over the moon excited for this. The musical was a fantastic experience and this along with the trailer looks amazing.

I'm at awe how amazing these kids are
The dancing is INSANE!
We love a continuous shot. Having done this show, this song is the perfect ending.
That kids are talented af !!!!!
These tiny little humans are absolutely perfect my favorite part from the song to the way these kids executed this choreography❤❤
As it was a kids movie I didn't even bother watch it but after watching this scene I'm blown away. I can't believe they are dancing so well at such a young age, it's crazy.
This dance set to Dragula makes this scene infinitely more cooler.
THE CHOREO HOLY SHIT
Wow! Tha choreography is just WOW! Applause for the choreographer
The musical was amazing i was in love with this song sm
Hortensia is my favourite character, her attitude is everything. And the dance is clean asf.
0:17 DID THEY JUST DO A FRONT FLIP DOWN THE STAIRS?!
I usually hate ads but I keep seeing this on Tiktok and I kinda want to watch it
Ms red beret here is serving Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent.
This was a really great Broadway/West End show. So glad they made a movie.
I love it ♥
Those kids killed it.

The Broadway musical has BEEN the tea for a while so glad they made it into a movie
The movie is pretty true to the stage musical. It’s great.

I wasn't able to see this on Broadway when it was out and have been dying to see it some other way ever since, so I'm so excited to finally watch the musical when this streams on Netflix...or maybe I should see it in theaters. Also this crip walk has me dead 0:31 😂😂
