Some people only plan their wedding, while others plan their entire chapel restoration before planning their wedding. 😅
😂
Perhaps the side or behind, outside the chapel a outside double power box .. for music and or cattering and lighting up chapel from outside? Etc@TheChateauDiaries

That IS wedding planning!
It:s Philip after all
My husband did lighting in the film industry, also audio for charity events in LA. He advises not to run lights and audio in the same pipes. It make an electromagnetic field and they will buzz, trust me you’d hate that noise. Pro tip from the pros.
They might want to consult a theatrical designer or other commercial expert in integrating light and sound, if budget permits.
Excellent advice💗
That’s has been the problem with airplanes
I can’t tell you how much I love Gerry!
He is an absolute tonic.
You all must have so much fun in his company.
I nearly spat my tea out when he said he woke up and thought he was dead 😂😂😂😂
Yes it is so nice to have him back! Welcome home Gerry!
If that were my kitchen, I would love to have a little bookshelf built into the space under the window by the cooker where the chaise lounge used to sit. Easy access to my cookbooks is essential, and having them all in one place is perfection. Plus, that would give the kitchen an extra surface to place more books or a decorative mixing bowl, or flowers in a vase. I love your kitchen.
Those side tables are “credence tables”, and would not have held candles. There would have been various accoutrements used by the servers to assist at mass such as little water cruets, towels, and the like.
Right🤗
Dimmer switches on the chandeliers at a minimum for the chapel.
Dimmer switches! Good idea!
Dimmer switches for sure BUT double check your ideas with a priest.
Was thinking the same. Along with wondering how much lighting such a relatively small space would need. Was also wondering if just one chandelier on would be lovely to have at times. More options anyway.
HUE Philips light bulbs You can dim them without dimmerswitches
I have worked as a lighting designer in churches and what made my work the hardest was when the house light (main light) turns on without a fade-in.
It can ruin the atmosphere completely!!
Hope they read this and decide on some kind of dimmable solution 😬
Obviously Ruby has been teaching Lancelot how to Miaow, she can be proud of her pupil. He is a happy little dog. The wall lights will look perfect in the Chapel, which is coming along a treat. Love Grant, you cannot beat a good no nonsense Aussie. Gerry's use of a poached egg was my kind of eating, none of that fancy French stuff.
Ruby is a boy. 😉
Well, even the word poach comes from the French poché, so it's not like poached eggs are completely divorced from "that fancy French stuff".
SO HAPPY TO SEE SCOTTMAN AND POVLINA MISSED THEM LOVE YOU ALL THANKS YOU SO MUCH GOD BLESS YOU ALL !!!!!!
While you're planning electrical for your chapel consider hard wiring Cat 6, Coax, Security System, Video Cameras, Sound System & Fire Alert. ❤️🙏
I love Gerry!! When he said he thought he was dead I bursted out laughing 😆
Gerry looks so good and healthy again❤❤❤
I think dimmer switches would work well in the chapel. Also, don't forget the outside - uplighting the chapel would be amazing!
Remember to imagine the lighting as viewed from outside the chapel at night. The glowing windows, safely walking out to the chapel, and any garden low lights or uplights on the outside of the chapel or the plants.
and a dehumidifier system.
As a designer…….I really cannot recommend enough that you consider dimers, you be glad that you did!
*dimmers
I'm missing seeing Amaury in the vlogs. Is he away working at his parents' house or is he purposely staying out of camera shot for now? I keep wondering if he's going to pop up at Chateau de Chaumont one day to work with Dan and Nick. What a team that would be! Huge respect for Amaury and I love seeing him at work, for all the reasons!
I think Amaury likes getting work done, rather than being on camera so much.
Gerald: "I actually thought I was death". 😂😂😂 Hilarious😅
Steph, may I suggest that you cut as much expense as possible at & around the altar by using oil-filled candles (no odour, no soot) instead of electrifying everything in sight?! Also, if you’re ever going to have Mass celebrated in the chapel in future (after all, you’ve said that it’s still consecrated), you should have a ‘living flame’ burning and not an electric lamp. If you would like any help with sourcing said oil-filled candles, please let me know. By the way, the person who has posted about ‘credence tables’ is absolutely right!
At mass, except under extraordinary circumstances, real candles are always used near or on the altar. There are beeswax candles and smokeless candles. If you don't have votive candles for special prayer intentions, because you are afraid of fire (especially when no one is in the chapel) I can understand that. But during mass, there are always candles lit ...it is part of the sacred ritual.
If you are really budget conscious use battery operated lighting and blue tooth music
Lancelot is the cutest and when he is asleep he is very sweet and adorable. ❤❤
Luminara Candles are the most realistic LED candles on the market. Originally designed by the Walt Disney Research & Development Department when they were desiding for artificial Candles for Disney's Haunted Mansion at their Theme Parks. For safety reasons they didn't want real candles for fire safety concerns. I have approximately fortydifferent shapes and colors around my house in Upstate New York. My friends have even walked up to them to blow them out and getting over them before realizing they are artificial. I think Luminara candles would be ideal for the Chapel. They even come electrified besides battery.
Absolutely agree - perfect solution for lighting in delicate historical areas with delicate paintwork, paintings etc.
LoL, Gerald! "I thought I was dead!" Interesting that the chapel brings out Lancelot's feline tendencies...
Tip: Light switches for the lights behind the altar and over the sanctuary are usually in the sacristy.
So happy to see Gerald. I get a laugh from his puns. 😊
Someone tell Phillip to put all of the chandeliers on a dimmer switch and also to put spots at the base of each column aimed upward of each column to highlight the architecture and the gilding. I am an Art Director in the film industry.
Am I the only one who misses seeing Amaury? 🦋
Yeah he is certainly the masculine energy, now that Dan and the tree guy have gone. You hardly see any of Stephanie's old men friends anymore. 🥴
Not everyone loves the constant attention of a camera ..etc…maybe she’s stood back from filming them so they can just have time to themselves and get in with life and work.
@@jacquelinearcher1158 That may be so but he still can be missed.
@@margaret-annfoster5848 Obviously not noticed her very old man friend Grant has been there several days already
Many of us miss Amaury, but respect his desire for some privacy. Besides, he's probably helping his parents with their new home.
I may not be catholic but I've read that their are specific ways on how to dress/ decorate an altar. You can read Churches, their plans, and furnishings by Peter Anson as a guide. Also, if you are considering electrified candles, Mathieu Lustrerie makes those LED candle flame bulbs used at Versailles and other monument historique.
Discussing socket positions is definitely second only to watching paint dry in the excitement stakes 😂 Those sconces look fantastic though!
I thought it was fascinating, sorry you didn't but we all have our likes and dislikes.
The Sconces should illuminate the heads of the Statues so depending upon how tall the "Candles" are they should illuminate and not compete with the statues. Have to get the whole shebang assembled after the scaffolding is gone.
Exactly what I thought.
True but they need the scaffolding to install them.
My thoughts exactly
Switches are tasteful if at fingertip height, not at eye level. Our architect designed discreet switches in our last home.
I watched Lancelot yawn 3 times. His timing was impeccable.
Surely all of the lighting placement should have been laid out prior to any work commencing on the chapel? The Architect that is overseeing this project has a responsibility to make sure that any electrical work is done by a qualified electrician so that it will meet any standards set out by French law.
pretty sure it will be..........
Just a thought, you may want the three chandeliers controlled separately and on dimmers. You can turn on each individually and make them as light or dim as you want.
I was also wondering how and if the wires are going to be chased into the walls - given the renovations of the painting.
When the comment was made about future proofing I know I had to say something. The chapel should be a "smart" chapel utilizing wi-fi (or zigbee or z-wave) with either a touchscreen or amber wireless switches on the wall. The wireless switches you can move at anytime as your needs change. This also allows you to pre-program lighting "scenes" for different holidays or events which you can use the following years. Saves time, energy and can be more creative.
Brilliant! Saves a lot of time wiring stationary switches, too!
I worry about s😮one technology thou, we are taking lking a hundred years but tech comes and goes in 5 to 7 years when the manufacturer stops supporting it. You get a bit more use but then it's just gone!
Def run extra cabling to allow for future needs. ( Back in the day... when I used to be involved in telecommunications installations/ implementations, we used to run at least twice as much cable as we thought we needed. Often we used it all with a few months)
I'd rather they stick to the electric fundamentals instead of all this futurism. A lot of traditional Catholic churches were horrifically modernized in the 1970's and they now look like electrified boxy community colleges.
@@sandraoliver-poore7860 Yep. Had it happen to me.
Sir Lancelot is a rock star!!!
So lovely to have Gerry back! He's such fun.
Was this filmed a while ago? I would have thought the electrics would be done before the paint restoration?
Yes it was. Stephanie doesn't stick to a rigid timeline. Somedays there's a lot going on and she has more content than she needs for the vlog, and somedays not much is happening, so she can use that extra content so she has something to put out.
are you illuminating the ceiling? I think you will miss a trick if you don't.
3 chandeliers
In the UK all electrical insulation has to be done by a qualified professional and must pass building regulation inspector. You would not be granted a fire certificate without.
What makes you think that the chapel restoration company, which is a large, well respected company (and one of the best there is), and has dozens of professionals of all specialties on staff, (that travel all around the world), doesn't have a qualified electrician?
Or insurance coverage
The most exciting part of this video is Gerry and the poached eggs
I agree, it's becoming very same same each video. More about Phillip and less about the actual chateau. You could write the script, Stephanie wakes up, after going to bed while Philip hangs out with the young ones, Stephanie looks out the window at the weather, Stephanie walks to the chapel, Stephanie goes on about Lancelot, Stephanie takes her boyfriend on holiday, when he's not hanging with his friends or telling her what he wants. Yep me I'm wrong 🤷💭
@@margaret-annfoster5848 You've whined about Philip every single comment you’ve made here. He's her partner, deal with it 😄
@@LaReynedEpee That may be the case, but it does not make him particularly interesting.
@@lala-ct9ir He may not entertain you, but it's not an excuse to persistently aim hate at someone. This person here has made an excessive amount of offensive comments. Animal cruelty and intellectual cruelty in the same video 😢😢😢
When my dad renovated our old house, a friend of his, a electrician, looked at his plans for switches and sockets and sad, always at least double the amount of sockets than you think you need... we have not regretted it. You will always need more than you think so doing more than the minimum is the best! I am glad you are doing it like this
Maybe the electricals should have been done before the renovations ? Or is there a technical reason for it to be done now ?
Marie, you should try a season French dessert : Tarte aux fraises. This is the full season at the moment in France and it's absolutely delicious.
The Chapel just lends itself for small family events such as intimate weddings, christenings, anniversaries and naming days. From experience it doesn’t matter how many points you put in there will always be a rethink as you can’t overload the circuit. It’s all fun and games.
Ruby definitely has been teaching Lancelot how to cat 😹😹😹😹😹
Phillip is so talented, thinking of every detail! Not all of us are detail oriented.
possibly put the plug in the floor with a cover so if you dont need you dont see/look at it . plus if you need to change just lift the tile and make modification ? the floor tile dont seem to be cemented. Same possibly put soft directionnal led in the floor lighting the walls and the decoration?
Have you thought about mounting tiny spotlights to eliminate the stained glass windows mounted on opposite walls? Then the windows can be admired at night from afar, when the chapel is empty. Thank you. ❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉😊
My church has three tall, slender, stained glass windows above the altar that are always illuminated and when you drive by at night, they are beautiful.
Stephanie, to be honest it would be a great idea to have one or two electrical outdoor sockets placed on the outside as well, in case lights would be plugged in on the outside of the church. Is that an option? Will you keep a dehumidifier running in the chapel when the pond is reinstated???
❤ Blessings
Be sure the outlets that may be used for plug in space heaters are very clearly marked and on upgraded wire. We see so many fires from space heaters plugged in as the wires heat up and burn up the outlets. Only use the specified outlets when plugging in the space heaters (in the future).
Gerry is a breath of fresh air in the morning as well. Please stay longer, Gerry.
I love the plans for the chapel lighting. Lancelot is bilingual. He now speaks cat! 😂
Marie, another fabulous dinner service.❤
Do be careful about putting in wall lights of unknown origin , you must have had them electrically tested first? . I hope Philip is consulting a qualified electrician as to what can be put in or you could overload the system.
We had an awful experience, we trusted a builder to sort out the electrics in our renovation. He was recommended by a friend. He told us he was a qualified electrician. We didn't check and we learned our lesson.!
The wiring proved to be faulty and too many sockets were put on one ring. We discovered that it was dangerous and could have caused a fire. He wasn't qualified and we had to replace the entire system
I doubt Philip is going to be installing any electrics. I would expect they'll get a qualified electrician.
Lancelot's not a cat, he's just bilingual. :) (humor)

Gerry Gerry Gerry , glad your back 😊
Is an electrical authority going to check electronics? Don't want to accidently burn down 'new' chapel.
Not an Electrician myself… thoughts of huge holes over top the restoration work being needed to run power lines. Not to mention the Carbon Footprint.. what are you thinking??
Wasn't the scaffold off the front of the chapel last time we looked? 😉
Did I put an older clip in? 🤦♀️

A query…..shouldn’t the electric sockets etc been fitted before all the new plaster went in. Aren’t they going to have to dig out channels to fit the wiring.
Yes, we asked for them from the beginning so it’s bewildering to me, but thankfully they don’t need to dig through any restored paintwork
@@TheChateauDiariesthe wall lights are going to look fantastic. Thanks for your reply x
It is great to see my fav back again, yes SCOTMAN!!!! I hope you are doing well! 😌🙏
Those side shelf type things on the walls beside the alter would have been for statues.
Flowers would look fabulous until the perfect statue.
Yes or for flowers.
And live burning candles, which is a requirement at mass or confirmations etc.
Doesn't the other two owners have any say in the planning of the lighting fir the Chapel?
I think they have every confidence in Stephanie to make the right decisions, Nick and Marie even left the decorating of their cottage to her because they know she will get it right
They both have full-time jobs and rarely discuss designs during a vlog. Nic once held the camera and nodded yes with it over window placements.
I wonder the same it seems that Stephanie is deferring more and more to Philip, which is a problem as he has no real skill or experience. It's becoming less wow and more child-like.
When you're young you think you have all the answers and you know everything, when you're older you realise you didn't and don't and you look for experience and professionals.

Had to laugh at Gerald "I thought I was dead!" Welcome back Gerald we missed you on the videos, nice to see you again at LaLand. I would get a professional to do the electrics at the chapel. Another lovely video. Have a lovely day.
European regulation guides you at what height your electricals need to be by law. Please check.
Idea: infrared heater… I saw one church with infrared chandeliers.
The lamp diminishes the majesty of the statues.
I totally agree, it's too much for the beauty of the chapel, once again Stephanie deferring to Phillips immature idea of grandeur.
Stephanie take a minute and step back, slow down and get it right. Get in professionals, this is too important too rush and get wrong. 🤦💭
Love seeing Gerry back, he's hilarious and Lancelot is more adorable by the day.
In the chapel, please consider electrifying those gifted, extremely heavy wall sconces that was said to hold candles. Please retrofit them for electricity. Please, no smoke in the chapel.
Yes, we’ll definitely be using them with electricity
@@TheChateauDiaries Thank you.
Put as many separate circuits as you can. I work in live events and power really makes a difference for extra lighting, sound equipment and if you ever needed to power a projector.
Do a combination of dimming and NON dimming outlets.
You will never regret extra power. When there isn’t enough you have to add a generator and it is always noisy.
The chapel is looking very beautiful
Hi! Everything looks amazing! It might be worth considering angled spot lights on the walls to highlight the columns, statues, death of St Joseph etc. Excited to see how the chapel progresses even further than it has already!
The chapel looks stunning. It takes my breath away. Since the chapel is consecrated consider consulting with a priest maybe for insights on luminaire. Either way it's just beautiful.
A priest will tell you about lighting in Catholicism?! Wow. Jesus never mentioned lighting systems - was that an oversight?
@@RockDove5212 😂
@@RockDove5212there are certain lights required under the church canon law, for example a tabernacle light which burns continuously as a sign God is present within the church. Stephanie has told us it is a consecrated chapel and she was brought up Catholic. There are certain rituals re candles at major festivals. Please don't mock other people's beliefs. Stephanie respects them as she is a former Catholic.
Just as water is consecrated, for various ceremonies and purposes, so are candles used in ceremonies for blessings. Yes, even Jesus followed the traditions of his time. @@RockDove5212
p,s, Hindus & Buddhists would say the same thing about water and lighting blessings ...the rituals and blessings may be different, but the elements are the same.@@hahna77
Illuminate the stained glass windows with some outside lights pointing to the windows to see each vs on a cloudy day or at night?
...I think it is wonderful to have a candlelight ceremony (dim light in a church) & be able to see the stained-glass windows shine in the dim light ...from outside lighting. The opposite effect is when the church is well-lit at night and the stained-glass windows can be seen brilliantly from outside ...making the chapel or church light up like a jewel-box!!
Shouldn't nick and Michael be planning the inside and electrics of the chapel with you?
No I want phillip owns it now

Hire a lighting expert.
Absolutely, Phillip thinking he knows more than he does will cost Stephanie dearly in the end. Poor designed lightning will pay a big detrimental blight on the amazing work done on the chapel.
Be sure you consider the clearance you need to plug in something behind the Altar...the plug itself needs space and you need a few inches for the cord as well. You don't want to install outlets that are useless because there's not enough clearance to plug anything into them.
Would you be able to put outlets on the outside of the Chapel? Lights for the outside? Spotlights to aim in the garden area behind the Chapel or the front to aim towards the whole green yard area? Christmas lights? Just a thought.😄
Outdoor sockets would definitely be worth having
And Stephanie " didn't want a dog" lolololol!! But, seems like adorable lil lancelot has stolen her heart!! Along with Philip.❤❤🍷🍷💐💞🍽🍽🍰🍰🌭🍗 :',-[--[~
My tablet didn't have a dog tht looked like Lancelot, so I made one as close as I cld!!
The electric candles should be on their own switch so that they can be dimmed and brightened to taste without being in unison with utilitarian light levels, IMHO. You may need the candle flame very bright to be seen, whereas the larger lights would be glaring at that level, for example.
An architect friend of mine said re planning sockets = work out how many you think you need and then double it - as you always need more than you think !!
You said his name... that puts anyone/any dog that is lightly snoozing off of their relaxation & awakens them.
Caution: Please check with a liturgist before making a final decision about lighting placement around that altar. If that is a Roman Catholic chapel, for instance, candles can only be paced nearby, never on the altar.
The lighting is going to be very nice. Lancelot sure is a cutie.
Gerry is back. I adore Gerry and his spunk. Marie's dishes look wonderful and working on the Chapel lighting looks like it will be wonderful and looking forward to seeing it all lit up and more importantly when you have your wedding.
Hi Stephanie and Phillip, please don't forget to electrify the sanctuary lamp. The red light known as the Sanctuary Lamp signifies the presence of God in the tabernacle that contains the Eucharist. I know you won’t have the Eucharist in the chapel full time but it also reminds the faithful of the presence of Christ, and of his love. I cannot wait to see the chapel this July. You, Phillip, and the restorers are do an absolutely BEAUTIFUL job! See you soon! Hugs!
Catholic rules. Catholic law. Like the Jewish laws which Jesus freed us from with His crucifixion and His blood, so the people didn't have to give sacrifices and fuss over clothes, lights and lamps. The presence of God is in our hearts . Really doesn't matter about a red electric light bulb and an electricity circuit!! It's not theatre!
@@RockDove5212 You are correct. It isn't theater. It's a restoration of a Catholic chapel. The red Sanctuary Lamp is already in place. I was giving the reasoning/meaning as to why it's significant.

We will have a sanctuary lamp. It’s the one going into the sacristy, there’s a special bracket for it there, but we don’t have the lamp itself. It’s one of the fixtures we’re currently looking for
@@TheChateauDiaries I'll be on the look out too! 😀
@phillipJensen don’t forget to put outlets also on the ceiling for potential audio, and video in the future. You may need to have security systems, but also the ability to do videos of masses and weddings. Also don’t forget a microphone for the Lecturn In addition to everything that is plugged in, it would be beautiful to have the battery operated candles that look real absolutely flooding every niche in the chapel when you do events. The chapel is going to have so many possibilities for music, concerts, for weddings, and for special celebration masses, and lectures. Good luck!
How wonderful Marie to watch you proside over your culinary skills... you are amazing and looking forward to seeing more. Well done Marie❤
In the USA 🇺🇸 there are electrical outlets and lighting systems which completely operate with remote controls
Possibly you may consider using this type of installation if possible
Believe it or not, the rest of the world has them too
What about wireless candles or other wireless items? It would minimize electrical outlets.
Any plans for accommodating a space for a small choir and/or organ? Would need additional lights/outlets . Also, you might need to reconsecrate the chapel.
We have made sure there’s a socket for any future electric organ
Since you are doing it - electrical spot lighting on the outside of the chapel would be nice to light it up at night time.
