The Australians had put Commando units on Timor to raid and ambush the Japanese forces there. Japanese command decided that something had to be done so they deployed their own Yugeki Chutai (Commando Company) to the island.
After a lot of skirmishing where the Japanese took the heaviest losses the whole operation of both sides degenerated into just keeping an eye out for enemy troop movements.
The Japanese also found that strengthening their bases defense was enough to discourage the Australians from doing their raids.
After a couple of months the Australians decided that it was not worthwhile to keep the Commandos on the island.
This battle depicts where two of the bigger patrols bumped into each other and the ensuing firefight.
