    The Merton team is so well-rounded. Multiple team members contributing, good collaboration, and a wide range of knowledge. I certainly like their chances to make it to the finals.

      It's nice to see two strong teams too where the women are central to the group's overall success. I'm referring to Merton and St. John's. If they can avoid one another in the semi-finals they could both make it to the finals. Excellent teams.

      Vncnt D I completely agree. It's quite refreshing. I hope to see them both in the final.

      ITubaUTuba While I certainly agree with you, 3 out of 4 is certainly not bad. It seems that most all teams have 1 person who does not contribute. Perhaps St. John's is the real exception this year.

      Have a nasty habit of neither paying attention to what university a team comes from nor the sex/colour of contestants, and do not find Merton College's captain's performance impressive merely because she is a woman.

      @@unclerogerANKI Appears to me that almost always, when a team have a strong woman contestant, they will make her captain, believing the quizmaster is more benevolent towards a woman, which is probably right.

    Surprised nobody has said anything about the question at 4:43. An identity is a relation of equality between two things. Pi is a constant, a single number, and surely not an 'identity' unless there's some alternative definition I'm not aware of.

    Don't like how Pax didn't accept Copper. It's happened before that the captain slips the wrong word out and he'll give them the points. He clearly he heard Maloney get it right too ... It's not like the 5 points would change the results but still he should stick to either always allowing or never allowing it not just deciding when he wants to

    • @TyrSkyFatherOfTheGods
      @TyrSkyFatherOfTheGods Před 6 lety +4

      He gives them a point for mispronunciation, but he's fairly consistent that he takes the first answer out of the mouth.

    • @HadeesHeart
      @HadeesHeart Před 6 lety +2

      Yeah I agree that if they get it wrong & change after that he shouldn't give the points, but this exact situation has happened before where a team member gives the answer to the captain and the captain misinterprets it, and Paxman still gives full points as he knows it was "supposed" to be the correct answer given. He's usually very fair but this one just irked me because he'd previously given points for the exact same mistake (wish I remembered the episode to give it as an example!)

    • @anttiautio5293
      @anttiautio5293 Před 6 lety +1

      HadeesHeart I believe (but I might be wrong) that Paxman is a bit more lenient with the rules during the first round of the season and after that never allows things like this.

    • @vncntd3962
      @vncntd3962 Před 6 lety

      But is he a Swede? He says he's from Sweden and Japan. Does this mean he has mixed heritage? It's hard to tell his ethnicity - or his age, for that matter. We're told that the average age of the Merton team is 23-years-old but since his teammates are all probably between the ages of 19 and 20, Wiberg is probably in his early 30s.

    I held Wiberg in such high esteem until he let himself say "I THINK it's Björk"... Pretty shocked he missed Norway on the folklore and nobody knew about Istria...
    Also, I'm certain questions are becoming easier since the quarterfinals... I got 19 this time and 18 last time, before I was around 10-12...

  • @Dani_London
    @Dani_London Před 6 lety

    I usually refrain from posting negative comments but I'm glad to see Oxlade go. He's a pretty poor captain, having given incorrect answers on two or three occasions (including previous appearances) without conferring with his buddies. On top of that, he lost them five points for mishearing Maloney. Didn't matter in the end of course but still, poor performance as a captain.
    On a more positive note, Wiberg is a fucking g. So is Peplow. So is Psi.
    Edit: just learnt that Oxlade will return in a future episode. I shall skip said episode.
