Love your tadpoles' names! I named my leopard frog tadpole Tad and ever since I put a little hidey-hole in his enclosure he's been in the corner between the hidey-hole and the wall. He's a weird little fella, but he's MY weird little fella. Thanks for making this video, by the way!
I have like 1000 toads, fish, and lots of tadpoles at my pond in my backyard. If I walk near it, I will hear toads jumping everywhere. And If I scoop some water, I am guaranteed to pick up a tadpole
Have you ever dealt with Bullfrog tadpoles? I work at a pet store and a Bullfrog tadpole came in with the feeders and I have no idea what I'm doing... XD
I've been raising tadpoles every year and I found out if you put some moss on half of the bottom of the tank, they will eat it and it is really good at giving the water oxygen. I have leopard ones, toads, and tree frogs.
I like your video! I have an outdoor Koi Pond and bought 50 of American Bullfrog Tadpoles. They were all gone the next day and I wondered what killed them, the temp, the water, the giant koi, the mature bullfrogs or birds... a couple of days later I happened to shine a flashlight on the pond at night and there they all were, happily eating away. Turns out the need a day and night cycle and prefer to eat during the night cycle and recuperate in hiding during the day cycle. So I hope you did not leave your light on all day!
So I caught a tadpole in the stage that yours are in the video. I've never seen him eat, but I'll replace his food every two days and clean the tank a bit. I'm just praying I catch him eating or see his legs grow
Broken Sequel I have really yound tadpoles, the way I tell is one has his legs and the others are in difrent stages of development, after they all grow idk tho
@Adrian Muniz I don't know the name of the plant. I just grabbed some random plant. I wanted elodea though. Also, it's a marismo ball. I keep the light on just like the sun. morning-night
Super Scienced Enjoying the videos Chris! And the tank looks awesome! For the plant- it's also called Anacharis, so the pet shops may have it labeled that.A local 'mom/pop shop' should be able to order it for you.
Super Scienced Chris not trying to be 'complaining' but can you make a super scienced video without any tadpoles. I'm not the most intrested in tadpoles |:
picked up a tadpole at work, it came in with our goldfish so im going to house him till he's a frog.. that's a marimo moss ball, not quite an algea ball. heh. Thanks for the video, I wasnt sure what they ate, he's living in my betta medical tank for the time being.
One alternative for providing food for the tadpoles is to look on the ground in shady areas of the ground. Look for where it looks like a bare spot of ground is turning a greenish color. I'm not a botanist so I don't know the difference between algae and moss but I have found that you can use that green stuff growing on the ground in shady spots. I just take a knife or shovel and cut a thin slice of the dirt, just enough to get that green stuff. Tadpoles love it.
I use a 55 gallon tub from Home Depot for 16$ made it to a pond works great got a few small chiclids a few hatchling turtles I’m about to get some tadpoles tomorrow
We’re keeping about four tadpoles in a basin in our garden with water that came straight from the pond we caught em in. They have plenty of algae as well as a plant to hide in but we are having an issue with one- he’s been acting strange and swimming on his back in circles? We are wondering if he may have swallowed air or if he got hurt somehow. We’re prepared to keep him if he grows up with some issues, but wanted some advice 💙
As an aquascapist, I recommend that you purchase tap water treatment from your local pet store. Freshwater aquarium fish can be put into tap water that has been treated with treatment chemicals that remove undesired chemicals. This chemical has treated water for my fish and crawfish, and I feel that anyone who owns an aquarium for a freshwater creature should have this. It's not too technical - all you do is add a small amount in relation to your volume of water and let it sit for some time. It treats water immediately, too. Also, I agree with the pond water. BUT - here is the thing. Tap water will kill all the healthy bacteria you can find in pond water. The pond water the tadpoles came from will be full of essential bacteria that keep the water and plants, like algae, healthy and beneficial for the tadpole. www.valuepetsupplies.com/api-tap-water-conditioner-16oz.html?scid=scplp4115520&gclid=CPqCzZDa88gCFYgTHwod0voHpQ
I ain't getting paid, it was just a link to show him what it is. He needs it, everyone does. I was just trying to help. Get familiar with forums- they share links and they don't get paid, they just do it for convenience.
I just got my tadpoles yesterday, and I have pond weed in the tank with them. I don't have any pebbles or sand or rocks at the bottom of the tank, would you suggest that I have something at the bottom of the tank or is it fine to leave it as it?
Great video. Our Leopard Frog tadpole keeps turning on his back, doesn't look great. Has back legs only , and he's been here about 6 weeks. I'm doing everything by the book- very careful with water changes, feeding, etc. But he just doesn't look good. He's in the smaller tank that was sent from Nature Gifts, with no filter. Algae balls just arrived. Any suggestions?
I have seven pollywogs, I'm moving them to a 20 gallon tank when they've metamorphosised. I'm keeping four and releasing the other three. I also collects algae from my horses water tank lol
how long dose it take for bullfrogs tadpole to grow legs? mine haven't yet. but my other bullfrogs did grow fast is it cause they might two different kinds?
We had some tadpoles hatch out in my kids baby pool while we were out of town. I want to save some of them and raise them as a hands on science experiment for my kids. I have no idea what kind they are, I assume they're the little frogs (people call them tree frogs around here but that may be completely wrong?). I bought a 10 gal fish tank to keep on the porch. Any advice would be appreciated. I've read to use a filter and I've read not to and I've read use one with a sponge filter as you are doing here. Is that from the beginning or only when they reach a certain age/size? Same with food, I've read boiled lettuce, fish food, and nothing at all of there's no lid on an outside tank. I bought a small jar of frog food at Walmart but that may be completely wrong. I love frogs so part of me is just trying to save as many as possible (Another question, how many can I put in the tank?) and the other part just thought it'd be fun for the kids but I have no idea what I am doing. TBH I've even read several different kinds and different amounts of water to put in the tank. I figure I have to move them soon before they run out of air in the pool or it gets too hot (IDK?) so whatever advice you can give as fast as possible would be greatly appreciated!
Pond caught tadpoles seem to have a higher chance of making it to adulthood, so I recommend catching some of those if possible. Just grab a net and a bucket and scoop 'em out of the pond. For wild caught tadpoles, you can just release the adult frogs back into the pond that you got the tadpoles from. If you buy tadpoles online, from a breeder, or a pet store, you will not be able to release the adult frogs. Frogs aren't much hassle to take care of as long as you aren't squeamish with handling small insects. I actually just caught 50 tadpoles from a nearby pond yesterday. Some of them have little legs already! I hope this helps :)
I use to work with and for a wildlife center. 35 years i have working with so many different animals and insects etc... I've raised a lot of different tadpoles and I can say with a fact that tadpoles will eat another tadpole! I've seen some pretty weird and gruesome crap these animals are very capable of.
Look for a uvb emitting bulb (uva is a bonus, avoid uvc as it is harmful) it will help you grow alge (allge, algie, I give up) and when the become frogs you will need it for a basking area. However you need to replace the light every year or it will not produce enough uvb. I have my turtle In a 70 gallon tank.
It depends on the surface area of the water, the number of tadpoles, and the number of aquatic plants that produce oxygen. I have had over 20 large tadpoles in one 20 gallon tank. They were very happy, and grew to be beautiful frogs.I had a clump of pond plants in with the tadpoles to help with the oxygen levels, but I didn't have a filter or pump. Hope this helps!
What if you have well water? Would it be safe just to put them in to the water without acclimating them first? I know it's safe for fish but idk if it would be safe for tadpoles.
What size of tank and rock and what should I put on the bottom please tell me I am a noob at owning tadpoles 🐸🐸 I love frogs and animals and tadpoles there just so cute I am going to be getting about 5 of them 🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸frogs rool

Thanks! I saved a few from a drying out pond. They’re doing ok but I wanted to make sure that they were getting enough nutrients.
One more update. DO not use a marimo ball for food purposes. Did not work for me :)
Super Scienced you mean from 2:06?
Heard!
I have tadpoles! They are in the stages of back legs growing and if it rains I leave their tank outside because the rain water doesn’t hurt them
Have you ever dealt with Bullfrog tadpoles? I work at a pet store and a Bullfrog tadpole came in with the feeders and I have no idea what I'm doing... XD
+LittleLion I found out later that these were bullfrog tadpoles! So just follow the video. Feed em lettuce and they'll be happy!
@@superscienced But lettuce isn't enough for them. It doesn't have much nutrients.
Thanks for the lettuce idea! They loved that!
Thanks so much for this vid because my neighbor has a frog pond with bullfrog tadpoles in it everywhere and I got 2 and I’m keeping them:)
I wafted this to take care of my one tadpole that I caught in the pond just a little bit ago

I don't know if this is ok for tadpoles but instead of adding straight tap water you could add repti safe
