Where are the Jack Palance’s of the world? My goodness he’s a strong presence and of course Joan is an absolute beast!! They both should have won big time for this film, the film itself should have won, the crews, etc. This picture, and the role In which Joan was casted as the shop girl in the movie The Women , opposite Norma Shearer who plays the Devoted wife. There is not one man actually present in that film, you NEVER physically see or hear a mans voice. And if you love this, check out “A Letter To Three Wives” with Kirk Douglas. Also see “Sleep, My Love” with Bob Cummings and Don Ameche and Claudette Colbert. The fashion then was absolutely stunning. Glittery gowns, and sheer draped in embroidery……… they had more class than any three Jazz HQ on the upper end. Xo

She became a seasoned talent but when she reached 50 + the stupid industry didn't give these great actresses a break with good scripts. Joan had a very expressive face and the stupid tabloids of the day wth Hedda Hopper and Luana Parsons who pitted both Bette Davis and her against each other. Great script and Jack Palance was an instant talent with those exotic looks! This is what I googled about these two vipers: Parsons and Hopper were both self-made women, single moms from middle America who shattered the glass ceiling; they were also small-minded, self-obsessed bigots who used their power to persecute outsiders, police sexuality, and ensure that the rich, powerful people who made movies lived in fear.
