- Singer-songwriter Bree Sharp turned a fan obsession with David Duchovny into a record deal with her witty ode to Fox's fox. "The song is about David, but it's also about the way fantasy and reality blur," Sharp says. "And how giddy, hot and excellent that can be."
"David Duchovny" not only caught the ear of Trauma Records, but a tape made its way to Duchovny, who put it into heavy rotation in his trailer. "David kept on playing it," says Charles Forsch, assistant to X-Files creator, Chris Carter. Along with another X-Files assistant, Will Shivers, Forsch created this video for the song, splicing clips of Duchovny with on-the-fly footage of celebs like Brad Pitt, Pamela Anderson and George Clooney lip-synching the lyrics. "As soon as they heard the song, they were into it!" Forsch says.
This is the highest quality recording of the David Duchovny video ever made available.

When younger people ask me about the 90s I just say, "Yes. It really was that great."
(Yes some shit was going down, as always, but NOTHING like my immediate older generations! And was certainly exponentially better than what we got since.)

I met David Duchovny a few times while the X-Files was still filming. Nice man. And so handsome...swoon. Anyway, I used to belong to the AOL X-Files chat, and we had a RL get-together in downtown LA at a hotel. We were partying away, and decided to sing this at the tops of our lungs in the middle of the night (more than once). I'm still surprised we didn't get tossed out.

omg I remember SOMEHOW my dad got a copy of this on VHS back then… I think at SD comic con or something, all I know was that my pre teen self with the GIANT crush on DD was literally flailing/squeeing over this before those were even recognized verbs. And I watched it about 800 times. Also, can we just take a moment to reflect on the fact that this isn't a "real" music video, it was basically th- "first gen fanvid" ever made but since CC & co. were the creators, we ended up buttload of (1998) celebrities (the baywatch ones are hilarious now, and also Brad Pitt everyone!) literally singing lines from this obscure song about a relatively popular, but only kind of, tv show. Back then Fox Network was literally mostly running off reruns of Cops and Jerry Springer. Back to the vid, ratchets up the awesome scale b/c they even have bloopers at the end. This is so classic and awesome and pretty much the beginning of 'fandom' as we know it - just w/o high speed internet yet! ;D
