  • Welcome to Let's Discover India. On day three of our trip to Ladakh we set our compass towards Nubra Valley: Where Sand Dunes Meet the Snowy Peaks.
Nubra Valley is in the northernmost part of Ladakh, nestled between the mighty Karakoram and Ladakh mountain ranges. It lies just over 3,000 meters (about 10,000 feet) above sea level.
The valley is a tri-armed wonder, cut by the Nubra and Shyok rivers. Its Tibetan name, Dumra, translates to “valley of flowers” - a fitting description for its scenic beauty.
Nubra Valley has a rich history. In ancient times, Nubra Valley played a crucial role in connecting India to the southern branch of the Silk Road trade route from China through the Karakoram Pass. Traders journeyed between Yarkand (present-day Xinjiang in China) and Kashmir in India via Ladakh. The valley’s legacy includes the double-humped Bactrian camels, brought from China’s Gobi desert by traders to haul heavy loads.
Visiting Nubra Valley is like stepping into a hidden paradise, where adventure meets history and natural beauty abounds. If you ever get the chance, don’t miss this remarkable destination!
