As Amyah prepares to go off to college, I'm reminded of a time when Amyah was 5 year old. She often spoke about how great of a high school student she was going to be, how she would always get straight A's, become president, and be a respectful child forever. She actually promised me at 5 years old she'd be a good teenager and SHE KEPT that promise. She's always been a very mature child, with a natural born talent to communicate with others. She was born with the "light" or "salt" of this world. I don't know about you guys but I know for myself it can be sometimes hard to identify what that light is in us. Abilities that come natural for us are sometimes sooo natural sooo ingrained in us that we just can't see it. Sometimes we need to look to other people *we trust* who can identify that specialness in us. And that's okay. However, don't ever underestimate looking towards God for those answers. When you see Amyah you can tell that she shines! So I often get the question "How did you raise her like that?" and my answer would be "I raise her well, but I can't take all the credit. She was born like that! and I'm making sure she stays like that!" I see it as my responsibility to protect her childhood so she can thrive in adulthood. But unhealthy relationships in childhood can often hide those talents and gifts under a bushel! I've seen this happen in many of my friends. It saddens and frustrates me. For some of us adults it's time for us to seek help and say "No, I'm going to let it shine". By grace we've been able to maintain and grow healthy family relationships! I'm grateful that when it's college essay time 1) Amyah comes to us for help!! and 2) we can help reminder her of all her special unique traits that God gave her.
Why I cried reading this. I never had a mother to guide me through life but ...but reading this and everything you saying was true to life I love your family and you all a roll model and I thank you for sharing and keep it true to us ....
So true, the only person I had was my Dad, and now that he is gone I feel like every turn I take is the wrong one. Glad that u have created an environment where your kids feel free. Most importantly you have made them your priority, trust me after you ,there is no one who will say they are my priority its all on you.
Congratulations Amyah
AMEN
Beautifully said.
Amen 🙏 Amyah stay blessed 🙏🙏
Her auntie is very articulate, she speaks volumes of meaning in her sentences. Lucky you Amaya to be surrounded by people like your parents and extended family at large. All the best.
shes a teacher. she homeschools her kids and theirs..
Her critique comes from a place love and knowledge. Too many people sugar coat their childrens work and it does not prepare them for college, but not Auntie. She's not going to let Amayah be mediocre.
I admire someone (Auntie) who can teach me a 65 y.o. Auntie how to be better in the care of my neices and nephews.
@@levinkobb2431 you feel annoyed because your brain is too weak to understand her intelligent sentences.
@@levinkobb2431 Exacly, I have stopped watching because I can't stand how annoying she is, not everything has to be so serious and a lesson. She can't say anything without being a lecture
The way she takes constructive criticism without shutting down or becoming defensive is impressive! That is one of the best qualities a person can have
I see why Amayah is so great. Her village is so strong and loving. They don't pull punches. While they have her back. I cried watching this. I honestly have went back to learning Spanish and teaching my 5 year old son to learning it. She is her own self. Love them all. Akeeba and Alana are strong roots for these kids they will rule the world 🌎. Can't wait to see.
From a older person who was both of you. Don't Don't change who you are to fit in the crowd! Find your tribe it make take some time but thats ok! ❤❤
Amaya is a carbon copy of her mommy! She will do amazing in college❣️
Yes she truly is!
This comment had me rolling 😂 she literally is her mini me😅
So agree!
Is Amaya Joe's daughter?
I'm just curious because of her skin colour
Especially her mums laugh
How special it is to have all of these educated individuals around you who genuinely care about your education and success. Amaya is such a lucky girl! Good luck on wherever you choose to go to college ❤
Joe never went to college. I guess his being Korean was enough.
@@queennanna5595 College is not for everyone, many intelligent people have become successful without it. Joe is a content creator and a lot of times when you are skilled in the arts, you really don't need to go to school for it but you can simply study the skill on your own by reading, finding a mentor, or using youtube to perfect your craft.
It’s honestly heartwarming. And I’m almost teary thinking about this.

Amaya is soo lucky to have such intelligent adults around her. No wonder she's so smart herself.
Yes, I call it blessed✝️🙏🙌🏼
Alena is an incredible mother and role model. She creates a comfortable home with great strong boundaries. And Joe is an incredibly intelligent man, who allows Alena to flourish without sacrificing his dignity.
Yes he does!!
I love thr way you wrote this it's so beautifully written
Amyah is a star! She is so level-headed, kind, patient, and intelligent. We have all the faith in her ability to make her mark on the world! Amyah, you were born for this! 💥👸🏿
The support these kids are getting from their parents and aunt is aMAZE-ing. All the best Amaya.
This video shows how important is to have a supportive system in your family. How lucky to have all these educated people to help you figure things out. You're doing so well already you're gonna do amazing in College!
as a black girl currently applying for colleges as well, i see myself through amyah tremendously. i have an affinity for languages and cultures alike her and i’m striving for many prestigious colleges. as for her grades, most universities do take into account the 1st semester grades, something referred to as a “mid year report” that her school counselor will have to submit for her through the commonapp. i love how eloquent you all are around amyah. you all have great advise, and i would have to agree with amyah’s aunt wherein the spark has to be prevalent and not glossed over essentially. amyah is a great writer and i can tell through the snippet we heard, so as long as she can keep a consistent flow i think the essay will be amazing. and with her youtube channel, and the extracurriculars in school alongside her amazing grades, i’m sure she’ll do great when decisions come around. good luck!
best of wishes to you as well for applying to colleges 🎉 it’s crazy to think I was in this position almost 3 years ago. WOW 😂 I’m almost offended when I see or learn of new seniors+ applying because I’m still thinking I’m one of them, though I’m a sophomore now. Reach for the stars
@@jeianalottie right ? it’s crazy, i feel like i should be in hs still frl. good luck with exams and enjoy your break, you deserve it :)
Love her auntie she speaks wisdom.
Right? She and her mom were so real. Brutally honest but not harsh.
You have come so far since your Baltimore days: you earned your doctorate degree, Joe is designing a room that looks worthy of a magazine spread, Amaya is going to college and, all the while, your family is still growing! All of this is so "amazelee"!
On the family's behalf this should be a highlighted comment.
I love thiss
@@DjHappyscrappin Thank you!
Well said!
Great role models..
Preparing for college is stressful but, what three people to help her along the way.
This family is incredible and it teaches me too on how to build relationship between my children.
Amyah is blessed to have such supportive mentors around her. Your intentional approach to imparting knowledge while letting her be herself is what I admire most.
Amayah is so fortunate to enjoy the environment/guidance of two educated women, her mom and aunt. Joe complimenting guiding this beautiful girl, just aMAZEing. These kids will do well studying in their future endeavourements. Few families on the USA vlogs encouraging real education. MazeLee and Akeeba tops on this, congrats.
I love how Joe made Maya feel so comfortable with his questions!! It allowed her to express herself easily
Joe Is Moved By God’s Powerful, Meek, and Humble Holy Spirit, He Thinks First Before He Speaks Or Reacts, He Is Lead By The Holy Spirit, Which causes Amiah to Receive it! There is a Connection with Same Like Mind, Same Like Spirit, it is “The Holy Spirit”!
@@robincrawley311 yes I totally agree❤🙏🏽
@@Tina52516 Amen! To God Be The Glory!
He always prompted her so that she would think for herself instead of just saying do this and do that. I think it helps her to trust and own her ideas
@@EstherOlabisi I can’t have said it any better, agreed!
To witness Amyah become more and more engaged to the point of complete inspiration after the family bounced around ideas about her essay was something truly magnificent to behold. To your family all I can say is well done
This is how families should sit down with their children and have educative intelligent discussions to shape up the future of positive well admired and respected families. Well done
She has enjoyed an amazing childhood with parents to look up to and emulate. She has been well prepared for higher academics and, by the grace of God, she will excelle and become a further shining example for her siblings to follow. Her parents created the best and strongest foundations for her to build upon. God bless you all.
Please tell Amaya to add her youtube experience and followers to her admissions essay, they want influential students at their university it's great promo for them. Can't wait to here her decision of what school she is going to!
I wish I’d had this kinda support system when I was graduating from high school. Love this! I’m sure Amaya will be blessed to attend whatever college of her chose.
I was equally impressed with Amyah’s baby brother, who didn’t flinch or react to all the excited talking or Mom’s energy when she couldn’t sit still in her excitement in the moment. 😂 its a sign, he’s use to it. I love it, this is a baby that doesn’t require silence to sleep I bet.
Joe, is such a huge beacon of positivity and unconditional love in his children lives, they have been so blessed. 🙏🏽🌹🫂🙏🏽👍🏼💯👏🏼
thought you said bacon....you said beacon....now im hungry.....ALL I SAW WAS "HUGE BACON" IDC IDC
The entire family is a huge beacon of positivity and unconditional love.
This is so beautiful watching the family work together for her essay ❤️ love it. Family that pray together stick together 🙏🏾. Congratulations on going to college 🎉
Families that pray together stay together 🙏🏾
As a med student who sits on the admissions panel at my school, I can definitely agree with the importance of authenticity vs trying to craft yourself into a unique case. I can’t even begin to tell you about the amount of medical school personal statements I’ve read that have contained, “a tear dropped down my face” or “I felt frozen in place” or “that was the moment I knew”. The purpose of a personal statement is to give admissions the chance to see who you are beyond your grades and SAT score. It may be that your experiences are very similar to many kids out there, especially today when it is quite common to find young social media influencers. But no one will be able to tell your story in the way that you can. Don’t focus on flowery language but do focus on the story that you’re trying to tell. If something is cohesive, relatable and honest, you have more of a shot of grabbing someone’s attention rather than a beautifully crafted yet disorganized story that may pop up in your interview. Good luck!
Not me wilding and cheering when we got to I let my subscribers write my college essays. Felt like I was in the room feeding off the energy. This was so special. A different angle in it takes a village. Love to see the family bonds manifest in this way. Go Amyah!! Go MAZELEE gang!!!
I love the family’s dynamics of brainstorming. Kudos.
I’m 18, only a year older than Amaya, and so it’s cool to connect with more people my age and see that we share similar ideas! I’m going to start college soon, in the spring!❤
I'm sure you will be a success during college. Just a little information: the seasons of the year are not capitalized.

for me, as a 32 year old Spanish American, amyah has inspired me due to her active enthusiasm and roll within her family in many ways - not limited to her language skills, but also it seems she loves to be charismatic, loving and present. Amyah, is such a pioneer within the CZcams community her young age , her eloquent nature is beautiful, uniqueness, zest for life and PERIODT. LOL GOOD LUCK and remember God is ALWAYS walking next to you- a pillar of strength even when you feel weak, inadequate or like someone is better than you- NO NO - GOD CREATED YOU shine bright girl!!!!!
AMYAH IS A VIBE !
I can't get over how baby boy is holding his head up and looking around like he's 6 months old. 💙💙💙💙
Right?!?!! Beautiful baby boy 😊
Yes and the spitting image of his Dad!!!!!
I love the cohesiveness of your entire family.. Amyah is going to do so well in college. Sending prayers to her for clarity and discernment as she’s in this process!
This video is now one of my FAVORITE CZcams videos of all time!!!! This was the ultimate living example of love, encouragement, teamwork, collaboration, brilliance, life lessons, assistance with finding/understanding a purpose/passion!!!
Amaya, may your college experience increase your innate genius abilities; be enriching, wholesome, well rounded, and more fun than you can imagine!!! You can ONLY soar from here!🖤✊🏾
This family is truly inspirational, the way you all collaborated to get Amayah on the right track for her college application essay, UK calls it personal statement, was absolutely brilliant.
Wishing Amayah all the best in her endeavours.
Baby boy is looking so handsome and growing well.
Love to you all.
Congratulations Amyah!!! Stay focused on God. The best advice I can give as a senior in college is to put HIM First I failed so many times when I put School above him. I promise you choose him he'll make everything fall into your lap 🤎💕🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿 we're children of God, we don't have to hustle God makes it happen for us💖
Amen 🙏🏽
Gooo little one you have professor s in the family 🏃🤗♥️🔥 you have everything .cool wish you the best
so nice hearing adults speaking of a child and to a child so positively , encouragingly about her deeds and efforts and future BUT honestly hoowee i loved this vid
If only so many other children had this type of wisdom and love at home!! The world would be such a better place.
Man, if only I had family support like this when I was entering college...
This family is truly a family in every sense of the word. Amyah is so blessed.
Amyah, as you enter into the indecisive and untamed world of college, take your love for God, prayer, and the foundational love and support of your family with you. There is much strength in the previous that will help you weather the storms of challenges for times when you have to stand out as a young woman of faith and color. Be the best while doing your best. You are so blessed and loved. You got this! 🙏🏽❤ Go with God.
They are so excited about this college essay!!!!!! It's the love, attention and dedication that can't be replaced in this family ❤️. That was awesome 👏🏾👏🏿👏🏽
Congratulations Amaya on your decision to attend college that is a decision that you will never regret. Stay focused on your journey and you will excel
Joe is a true designer. From a fellow designer. Great job.
I love Akeeba!!! She is such a teacher Auntie ❤️ Alena, your children are so very blessed to have a family that values education the way that you all do❤️ Go Amaya!! Wishing your college days and beyond, so much happiness and success🙏🏾
I wish I had people around me like this growing up. This is beautiful to see and she is tremendously blessed. I remember going though high school alone and not having anyone to help me get through it, nobody to talk to, nobody to encourage me and nobody to give me advice. I was a teen walking through a world blind. Amaya is going to go far. I live vivaciously through their videos because I’ve never experienced this and I adore them so much. ❤ go Amaya! Amazing job aunty,Joe and mom!!!
Bravo! I never comment but had to for this. There was something about what we all just watched and it didn’t require anything snazzy! A family backing each other up. A high level of creativity and intelligence in one room. An active family invested into one another. Encouragement and celebration with honesty and informative feedback. Seriously! Loved everything about this. Amyah is a bright light and God genuinely created her and your family in a special way.
These close-ups of "Little Joe" are too much. He is sooooooo CUTE!
I just LOVE THIS. The collaboration of brilliant minds feeding the young great mind.
Such great family support!! Everyone around her had great ideas 💡 She is so intelligent, she’s just young so she is feeding off of all of this. She is amazing and headed for greatness!!😊
Congratulations to her! I’m currently in my junior year of college studying music therapy and my instrument is harp! College is a rough road but it goes by so fast. My advice to Amyah is to take your time, take your studies serious, but always find time to take care of yourself, make new friends and have fun. Always communicate with your professors and advisors if you have any trouble. And don’t ever let college get you to a point of feeling so stressed that you want to pull your hair out! Take care of your mental health and if anything starts to make you feel down, your parents are people who are there to listen, as well as good friends and counselors that are available at school! There’s never anything wrong with asking for help. And finally, NEVER compare yourself to any of your peers, or anyone in general. College isn’t a race! Always know you will succeed with your smarts, and strengths at your own pace! I had to learn all of these things thus far in college the hard way. I am wishing you such an amazing college journey. You have an amazing, and experienced support system! ❤️
Jada your advice to Amyah is spot on & since it's coming from u as a current college student. I hope that she really realize what u are saying & always know that her family is there for her. Amyah u will be great in college 💯%, just stay on top of your deadlines for all projects. Good luck & be safe 👍🙏.
God bless you.
Good advice
Thanks for giving good advice from someone close to her age generation.
Love how this family helped her work through her essay subject and style. ❤
Wow and wow ! So much infusion of love, family , seeing the new baby, parents, aunt and showing some beauty, Obama mentioned I love him, so much in this video was awesome! I can’t wait to see this family on here! Hurrah! And congratulations!!!!
Watching this entire video was very inspiring 🙌 From Joe's creativeness of putting together this beautiful room (calming colors and symmetrical togetherness) to the segue of it actually being the area of the awesome brainstorming that took place. Amyah is surrounded with so much wisdom. I tell you ..if Grandpa was there to round out the circle my heart would've jumped out my chest. I LOVE to hear him talk when he is featured. He surely has passed that intelligence and wisdom to his baby girls. Alena🌹Auntie🌻 & Joe💪 Bless you all for being such a STRONG guiding force for all the children. it really is a beautiful thing to witness❤ Thank you for sharing🙏
She personifies the first child. Shes beautiful like her mom.💝💝💝
I love it when a family comes together
Such an amazing intelligent family! Such a loving, caring, smart family. I love what Joe did in that room. Joe is a natural interior designer!
This was beautiful to watch. How you all poured into her and encouraged her wow!!!! You will do great Amyah. You hv an amazing support system.
Amyah is so intelligent, I love how the adults interact with her & give her incentive to enhance her own abilities. Amyah will be great!
Amayah, as an avid watcher of your CZcams and aspiring polyglot myself, you have 100% inspired me to learn know more about other cultures and languages. As an African-Australian, watching someone around my age learn and share with others your experiences in learning languages and culture truly pushes me to grow my skills. Your tips and tricks have been helping in my study even beyond learning languages. I’m hoping to one day become a medical doctor and i employ your study tips so often in my uni studies. Continue the hard work, and pray God may guide you in every step you take. You’re impact reaches worldwide.
Love the guidance you guys are giving her! ❤️
And I love that you’re telling her to be authentic. Honestly I’ve heard so much starting from my college entrance essay to applying for jobs after college that I just need to fluff things up and that’s what everyone does. First of all it fuels imposter syndrome, and second it makes you feel like there really isn’t something special about you that can help you achieve your goals.
It’s so great that you guys helped her realize that she doesn’t need to dramatize things bc she is enough, she just needed to find the right words to express it to others. When she gets into college she’ll know it’s her authentic self that got her in. And it’s her authentic self that can do all things through Christ who strengthens her!
Great family moment ❤
Spending quality time, giving honest and constructive critique, but also genuine support and love.
I have been watching the baby boy the whole time during the video. What a great life experience for him! Hearing and learning to recognize all the loving voices of the family around while being in the protective arms of Mom or Amaliah. Already involved in her sister future ! How wonderful !

Man….. I just love your family!!!!! So inspiring!!!!! You guys are doing it right….and sooo authentic! Just love it!!!!
Lovely synergy in helping with this stressful college essay!!!!
Amyah - any college would be lucky to accept you for what you add to a class. You have conducted yourself so admirably in these videos and this is authentic to who you are. Anyone could see your bright light and lovely personality. The way you care for your sisters and your brothers is honest and true. It's not easy being the big sister and setting the example for the rest to follow. Intelligent, curious, generous, resourceful, thoughtful, and beautiful are the adjectives that describe you. You are an amazing daughter, sister, student, and friend. May God place a hedge of protection around you as you enter your college years and grant you success at every good thing you set your hand to do.
Unpopular take: I don't think Amayah's essay was that bad, it's clearly a first draft but upon restructuring, it would be interesting.
This sentence stuck out to me "The life I had been observing behind the screen was now a part of my own family."
She's talking about being an African American who suddenly got thrust in her family's Korean drama.
Now compound that with the fact that her daily life is literally played out on screens every week to millions of subscribers, you get a narrative within a narrative.
& Plot twist: Amayah is now creating Korean content of her own because of the role that culture has played in her life both directly and indirectly.
I also think Amayah's take on language as a bridge for connections while a common trope, as her aunt said: the way it's connected her life together is unique.
Don't give up on the original essay just yet, revisit the ways media, language, culture and family lead to the pursuit of a college degree at X university in Y city to study Z languages.
Good luck!
*Amyah
This is so inspiring! I wish I had a video like this out when I was writing my college admission essays. I love how you all came together to help Amyah. It really does take a village.
I love all the lessons, or “jewels” dropped in this video. My favorite parts went from bewilderment/frustration/overwhelmed looks in Amaya’s face in the beginning to the way her eyes light up at the end. The team effort, the way y’all collaborated and celebrated your efforts was so fun to watch. Great video 💞
This is so awesome to see and hear how you guys are so transparent, positive loving and so supportive to your daughter/neice!! Its so beautiful to see how well you all communicate and showing others parents how to relate, listen and be such a great support system to Mya!! Thank you so much for sharing your lives with us!!! All of children are so beautiful. Blessed family indeed full of love, laughter and life!!!
Family family family! I am so glad that I watch this episode. You guys rock! Amaya is so blessed and she is a blessing. I saw you guys take the spark and add a little firewood in their metaphorically and I saw that sparkle off in her eyes. I can't wait to see or hear what her essay actually becomes. So much of this was so relatable. Sometimes we could get so into our head that we really can't put a plane. I appreciate the inclusion of all of the adult opinions. I love that Auntie was building her up right from the beginning to let her know that the most special part about this whole essay is her. And encouraging her to speak with her own voice authentically.
She already rocks; now where will she go from there? UP!!😘

Wow! This may have been my favorite of your videos. The collaboration and love, the beautiful new baby on your shoulder, Amaya’s humility and emerging enthusiasm about the essay…all great.
And yes, an American black teen with fluency in Korean is fascinating as a starting point. Add the CZcams channel, the very interesting family dynamics, Amaya is quite a person. Any college would be lucky to have her represent their school.

Enjoy, have fun, learn, and stay alert. Congratulations on your journeyer of learning more about yourself. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
That was amazing! I loved the collaborative support, encouragement and inspiration Mya received. Just when she was getting discouraged and thinking she couldn't do it Mommy Mazalee sparked creativity inside Mya! What a teachable life moment! Great teamwork! Go get your college Mya!
I went to university of Chicago and they thrive on out of the box essays like this. Every year they put out a selection of essay prompts but they are always unique and something that sparks creativity so I absolutely love this idea for a college essay.
Amyah is destined to do so many great things and certainly make this world a better place. I feel extremely blessed to have the opportunity to watch her grow up. She has a beautiful smile and a sweet, kind, and selfless soul that already makes the world brighter. Love you sweet girl! ❤️
I love this conversation. My daughter is also facing all the same things. Lagging on the essays, the authenticity of thoughts. I played this for my daughter…needless to say we are finalizing and editing her essay over the holiday weekend to give her the BEST shot at acceptance to one of the schools of choice. Best of luck to your baby.
