Plot twist: Soviet agents tried to assassinate him, but instead found Yasser who was 20 years old and as strong as an ox.
"I have a bad back" lol
I love how Korchnoi's first idea wasn't, e.g., "buy a security system" or "buy a gun" or "hire a bodyguard", it was "get some stooge to sleep in my bed so he'll get shot instead" LOL
Every story by Yasser is a gem.
I read this story many many years ago on Yasser's book. He keep telling this stories in between his lectures and I never got tired listening to this amazing story with Korchnoi. I am glad now there is a video DEDICATED to this story!

Yasser is funny. He could tell a story in the middle of a fistfight, and you wouldn't notice it ;-)
That one dislike is from the Soviet assassin.
Yasser is a (inter)national treasure. If he wasn't a GM he could make an easy living as a voice actor or presenter.
Yasser = instant like. Most personable and nicest guy in chess history!
Zero dislikes just shows how charming Yasser is.
I love Yasser
Why did you delete your videos? You where so far ahead of the game when it came to funny chess content on youtube!
Man, Yasser is the best. We need a whole Yasser stories channel
Good old Yasser, the David Attenborough of the chess world.
LOve this man, his stories are golden
The Karpov vs Korchnoi documentary is amazing 👏
I like how Master Storyteller Yasser Seirawan is also a Chess Grandmaster.
A Grand Master in telling stories👌
Yassir so polite, Korchnoj realised he'd only yield, if he thought he were saving Korchnoj's life
I love how Grandmaster Yasser's most important lessons are off the board. Its more important to be a GM at life anyway.
He has wonderful memories.
Yay, storytime!
That's actually similar to a detective story I have read. A person thinks he's life is in danger and gets another complete stranger to live in his home for a week or more while he himself goes to hiding. Later the stranger hires a detective to find out what's going on
Amazing! What a story!
more yasser 🥳
I think Spassky told the best stories. But Yasser is great!
The 1 dislike is the Russian assassin..
hahaha I love Yasser's stories :D
Excellent bedtime story lol
Nice twist in the end
Wooo story telling 10/10
Back in the early ‘70s or possibly late ‘60s my father played chess with a Russian man every morning at his favourite coffee bar in Estepona in southern Spain - then he just suddenly stopped showing up. A week or so later he was discovered in the hills at the back of town with bullets in him.
😂😂😂 thank you Yasser
Shirlock-like Holmes-brilliance
That is an epic story and KGB clicked 1 dislike
*it's Wijk Aan Zee not Wijk Ann Zee
@@AgentSmith911 true, I thought the content creaters might want to know so they won't make the same mistake in the future.
I appreciate the note on the correct pronunciation. Even if it is a 'small village' doesn't mean we can disregard any attempt to correctly pronounce the name.
'Wijk Ann Zee' come on how did you fuck that up.
Yasser looks like Uncle Max from Ben 10
Push em, baby
so wijk aan zee is in tilbur right?
Wijk aan zee
can we all just appreciate Yasser's shirt for a moment like GOD DAMN
That's kind of messed up though.
Thats hilarious 😂😂.... Unless of course korchnoi legitimately put yasser in a dangerous scenario. Does anyone know if the soviets were after korchnoi or anything more about this story?

Yasser's stories prove how dangerous and cruel the Soviets were. Knowing that it's a fascist-type of government.
I don't understand why Soviets wants to assassinate to their own? Isn't vk is a soviet citizen at that time? Pls someone explain me...
All my stories are terrible.
Let’s be real... Korchnoi picked up on those closeted vibes Yasser puts off and thought he would try his luck at some cuddle time in the guest bedroom... when Yasser rebuffed him Korchnoi pretended like he intended for Yasser to take the master bedroom all along.
Pretty sure Yasser would have stopped being friends with Korchnoi if the story was true.
I just don't think he really believed someone would try to assasinate Victor in his home.
It's hard to believe that you could get killed over a chess match. Sounds a bit too much!!
There's a lot of money, status, and influence involved in world championship matches, completely believable. Even more so given that this was during the soviet era.
Korchnoi basically castled.
Underrated comments of chess, 2021.
good strategy xdddd
And left the rook hanging.
Lmaoooo dude xD
lol if only the story took place in Paris instead of Zurich. Then there'd be a French Defense joke too
