Billiards/Pool is a classification of cue sports played on a table with six pockets along the rails into which balls are shot 🎱!
1954 looks more advanced than 1980
Probably because the one from 1954 was made with the most advanced computer possible but also the least practical of the time (THE COMPUTERS OF THE 50'S AND 60'S WERE GIGANTIC AND ONLY DID ONE OR TWO THINGS RIGHT AT A TIME)... the one from 1980, We could say that it is a more "cheap, economical, accessible and more practical" version than that of 1954.
It only looks more advanced but it doesn't.
The main reason it may looks more advanced are due to the fact that the footage is being made using a simulator.
The actual graphics of the 1954 actual game playing on the actual computer it was made for are just the white lights. The sides of the table and the pockets were not actually part of the games graphics, but instead were drawn in grease pencil on a transparent overlay.
The 1954 game also, as it was being played on a very primitive machine, did not have the power to simultaneously do a real-time analog pool simulation and have the appropriate programming to perform tasks such as "Stop" the controls after the player's move and only allow the player makes his next move when the ball stops moving, dividing the game into turns.
Instead, the game can simply move the cue and hit the ball freely while it is moving.
Another thing that makes the 1954 game seem more advanced is the fact that the graphics movements appear to be smoother and happen at a higher frame rate. However, this is largely due to the fact that the 1954 game has absurd ghosting in its graphics (which is a problem) and because the game operates with analog functions (which is naturally smoother but is much less sophisticated).
In 1970, if you showed both games to someone, that person would be surprised millions of times more by the Odyssey2 game, which has more colors, has turn-based operation, in which the entire table is drawn by the console, has almost the same framerate as the 1954 game without ghosting and without needing to operate with analog functions
Neat, i was just playing pocket pool on switch, didnt know 13:17 psp had same name but different. It makes pool into mini golf. Why was I born had a fun pool level too, playing as the ball.
51 clubhouse games on switch is a fun one too. Almost impossible to track everything I admit.
Pure pool is still the best of all time, but Arcade Pool and Side Pocket are also classics.
Great vid
Virtual Pool and ShootersPool are awesome.
