NUX Mighty Lite BT vs NUX Mighty Air Review

  • A comparison between the volume of the two practice amps. The Mighty Air is supposed to be rated at 10 watts but is much quieter than the 4 watt Mighty Lite. I may be doing something wrong in my app settings, but after setting both amps to noon on the app, saving it and the AB you see here, there is still a big difference in volume.

    The gain is different in algorithm. You can use the compressor volume in Mighty Air to get more gain and more volume. Or you can use the equalizer for get more volume for all frequences.

    When I need it loud and portable, I just connect my Mighty BT with my JBL Xtreme2 via the 1/8 jacks and I've got 40 watts and 15hrs of battery life with more volume than you could ask for.

      Very true, I had mighty air before and then sold it as I preferred Fly3. And later I bought Mighty lite II, I sold my Fly 3. For me, Mughty lite ii>Fly3>Mighty air. I also have to say that I also bought positive grid Spark Mini. It was same quality with Mighty lite ii with very different sound if you compare each amp models. I also sold Spark mini. I liked Mighty lite ii better.

    How is the latency on the Air? I currently have a Valeton Rushead Max which I pair to a Bluetooth speaker via an audio cable which I use as my portable amp, but I am hoping to go a bit more portable and get rid of the wire. I tried connecting two Bluetooth 5.0 transmitters to the Rushead Max but there was noticeable lag with both (maybe about 0.5s? I didn't know how to measure them, but it was definitely noticeable). Is there any noticeable lag when playing wirelessly with the Air? Thank you!

    Just to point out, The Mighty Air is Also made For Bass So the Volume is of course lower because The Mighty Air Has a Better Subwoofer and The watts are higher for The Sole purpose of Making it Compatible with Bass

    • @MiguelSilvaX
      @MiguelSilvaX Před 2 lety +3

      Yeap, bass needs more power to be heard, and some of it just shakes surfaces around. So our ears will perceive a louder sound if all the power is directed to the mid frequency like the Lite BT but might sound less quality (lacking bass and high frequencies).

  • @GiampieroSalvi
    @GiampieroSalvi Před 3 lety +2

    Hi, are you running the Lite from 6 AA batteries, power adapter or powerbank? I can't compare with the Air, but I noticed that the Lite is much more quiet if I feed it from a powerbank through the USB plug, perhaps the volume difference has something to do with feeding 9V (AA batteries or power adapter) versus feeding 3.7V with the powerbank (I understand the Air runs from a rechargeable battery that is probably standard 3.7V). I still haven't figure this out, but I must say that in my case the Lite is way too quiet on the clean channel (it does not sound anything like yours). It gets much louder with the overdrive and distortion channels. Perhaps it could also be a firmware rather than hardware issue.

      I really like the THR, especially the blues model, but I have to say that after these few months I am really liking the sounds I get the this AIR. I still have the BT and don’t plan on selling it, but the AIR is worth the upgrade.

    • @AxemanMessiah
      @AxemanMessiah Před 3 lety +1

      @@ryanleeashbaugh9390 The Air looks fantastic, USB-C and compact, fully wireless making it unbeatable. I have a Mighty Plug as well, which is basically the Air minus the speaker making it even more portable. Maybe the combination of the Plug and the THR10ii 20w would be the best. The Nux amps only let you have 3 presets and limited to 1 clean 1 crunch and 1 dirty, and no onboard control tweaking, gotta use the app. The THR is not USBC and heavier, wired, but it has onboard controls with 20w sound and unrestricted presets which make it more ideal for practice amp. The Air can replace the plug and the THR together, but it wouldn't be the best practice experience due to the cons stated. So I am leaning towards that combination. Do you think that's a good idea?

      @@ryanleeashbaugh9390 So true! I live in an apartment too so will have the same issue. I got the THR as it was on sale and the Air is the Mighty Plug minus speaker. I saw your updated comment that with the reset, the volume is the same as the Lite BT now, which is awesome! I bet the stereo does sound fuller even though it is the same max volume level. The THR has a 3 inch stereo setup, louder than I will ever need it to be, at 7lb it is not that portable with an AC adapter, and no USBC, which makes me think the Mighty Air would have been a better choice. Though, I don't really plan on moving it much, and on my BT and Plug, only used 2 of 3 presets, on this using all 5 and more on the app so far. The Yamaha app is more polished as well, though both can dial tones easy and get the job done well. I think I'm going to keep it especially as I got a great deal on it, and will use the Plug or Lite BT for on the go.

    It's possibile to connect bluetooth headphones to mighty air?

  • @Pharesm
    @Pharesm Před 3 lety

    Much thanks for your omparison! ...But I think your comparison doesn't really do what it should.
    Equal volume knob setting is fairly irrelevant with unequal amp power and speaker sizes. Smaller speakers move less air, so they need more power to boot, and with electronic compensation for changed efficiency across the frequency band, you'll lose even more of the amplifier's power.
    Its more useful to compare sound quality with equal real volume.
    Also, how high you can get the volume with a clean sound, before it distorts without intentional distortion being added.
    Since the tiny one likely has smaller and higher quality speakers, it'll remain clean for a greater range of volume, but not match absolute volume. Also, the enclosure is smaller too.
    Since you said the 4Watt Mighty light gets "too loud" for the neighbors anyway, I don't see the problem. Better quality and lower sound levels seem to be desirable for both living room and hotel rooms, no?
    Unless the Mighty Lite is lacking wireless connection to the guitar, I'd rather have that, which will eat less battery power with its 4 Watt amp, and swap the speaker with a higher quality speaker of the quality level that B&O, Vifa, Harman Kardon use for their high end Bluetooth speakers. There are many sources, where you can buy very high quality, well engineered speaker drivers.
