- I'm on the hunt for fancy fabrics and Sam came THROUGH! Chic Fabrics is one of the very first stores I landed at when I taught myself to sew. Have a New York adventure with me, and see what we got for Rob. And myself. Because the sewist always gets a cut.

How glorious is this shop? 😍How fantastic is Sam? That store (really the entire garment district) would be so inspiring. It would be easy to lose track of time! I could quite possibly spend an afternoon just watching him cut fabric. Looking forward to seeing Rob's blazer.
Sam is a born entertainer-all of my gentlemen there are a blast, it is SO easy to lose track of time at Chic!

That was just amazing! Loved how he ripped the fabric and how he demonstrated opening the blazer to show the lining! Lol that definitely would lift your spirit! I know the feeling of just not feeling like leaving the house. Glad you felt better it was fun to see your trip. I wish there was a place like this here in MD
He had a bunch of cutting techniques that I had to leave out (dang sound engineer). I find that getting out almost always makes it better (almost;)

Hi there......thanks for taking us along......I will now have to venture to LA garment district for some fabric shopping.....love the wool and lining for the blazer.......that fabric you chose for yourself is fire.....I absolutely love the fabric color for the lining........that fabric would make a nice cowl draped slip dress............FUN!!!!
My sister and I always visit the LA garnent district when we go to LA.

@@worldgurl6957 Honestly, I don't think we ever knew the names of stores. We only knew them by location and the faces of the owners. There was one on a corner that had rough silk with the slubs that was made of two different colors of silk threads. The rolls all were standing on end on shorter spools so everyone could see them all at once. She and I went on a Saturday and I vividly recall the two of us and four other women all standing and admiring the fabrics before we made our commitment to cuts. If there is a fabric admiration equivalent to drooling, we were all doing it.

Sam’s old store (Fabrics For Less) really was jam packed with linen. I still find awesome linens at Chic!
OMG!!! Look at all THE FABRIC!! I would never leave Chic Fabrics.. lmao. I actually just sent them a message on their FB page asking them how to buy fabric just from them.. so/sew many many many projects to sew/so...its not hoarding if it fabric! right?... lol And can I just say That YOU are just the best! And Rob is soo funny! I came upon your channel by happenstance and was just instantly at ease with you, so I instantly subscribed to your channel. Your channel is the first thing I watch when I get home from work in the mornings, so keep up the great work and content!

I remember Fabrics for Less! Didn't they close? That was such a good store. Ah! Memories!!
They did, back in the day Chic & FFL were right next to each other, and it was glorious. So many stores in the garment district have had to move or close due to the crazy rents. I’m so glad Chic survived!

This weekend was my first time in the Garment District since the early 2000s (say, 2004?), and my heart was broken at how it was a shell of its former self. There used to be wall to wall fabric stores on 39th and 40th between Seventh and Eighth. I recall some stores dont open on Saturdays (or the weekend), but there were so few storefronts (opened or closed). So, its those damn greedy landlords. I read the same happened or is happening in Meatpacking District. And here I thought it was the Pandemic. Thanks lady for your very insightful videos! You are an angel on Earth!

Thank you for this. I'm always so intimidated by garment district shops. I've really only gotten myself into mood a couple of times. I know there are a ton of great stores there and my heart wants to spend a whole weekend spending all of the money for all of the pretty things. I'm definitely going to make a bee-line here the next time I visit! Please post more videos like this! I love to live vicariously and plan for future trips!

Can’t wait to see the jacket you’ll sew him. It'll be so unique, the woo and lining will be a perfect match. I loved all the fabrics Uncle Sam got out to show you and the measuring machine was brilliant. Don't we all want one! I watched your blog about up-cycling a denim jacket with embroidered mesh fabric, some time ago. I must admit I couldn't get a thrift jacket so bought a new cheap one in store, I love it so much and wear it all the time, as is. I'm still on the lookout for another to up-cycle - one day. Fun as always Marcy, and what a fabulous purchase you made. That purple under the chevron is wowza. Funny sometimes how we don't want to go somewhere and once we get there, we realize it was just what we needed.
That purple was like a high voltage vitamin supplement. Yeah, just getting out can do the trick sometimes 💗💗

Thank you for the Chic tour. I have missed seeing you and that fabulous hair! I got to go to Chic Fabrics once, many years ago. Sam helped me when I was there. He hasn't changed. I live on the other side of the country now in Washington, so I have to see New York fabric stores on any broadcast I can. Or in publications. No other stores like them.

We’ve tried a ton of mics, and had a lot of issues with all of them. We finally decided to go with the rode wireless go-so far I like the sound, I just need to make sure I’ve got the usage settings right next time 😅
