    I've built a small Firestore database/backend utility tool 2 weeks ago using Catalyst... it's truly amazing, everything is exactly how you would code a normal iOS app but you get a Mac app with zero complication, zero learning curve of a new language or set of tools. I really needed to make that utility fast, to add/edit content for my iOS app. It was done in a day thanks to Catalyst, Firestore, also integrating Algolia and Google text-to-speech. Loving it.

    Chris , what is the best way to master the ios development?

    • @CodeWithChris
      @CodeWithChris  Před 4 lety +2

      As with any skill, practice is the key to mastery. Code along tutorials, just code everyday for as many hours as you can. Having personal projects also help. Start with simple apps like calculator app, calendar app, or todo list app, etc. Then move forward with more advanced stuff as you get more comfortable. :)

    • @denisblack9897
      @denisblack9897 Před 4 lety +1

      programmatic ui is the only way you are going to master ios
      storyboards induce some prescription-grade impostor syndrome and they should
      google everything with a "... programmatically" at the end and you will find answers from real industry people, not fake wannabes (Chris is ok, not fake)
      example: "UIButton change title color programmatically"

    • @CodeWithChris

      Hello, it would be a hardware issue, a phone being too hot or too cold can make it run faster or slower, but it shouldn't really break your app but it can have performance issues

    I need a mac system just for Xcode ONLY. No entertainment or other use. I already have a top of the line line windows laptop for that.
    Apple does not relase new OS updates for mac mini 2011 model. The last possible update for this model is 10.13, latest update is 10.15. Now the latest Xcode works only on 10.12 and above.
    Shall I buy this mac? I need it for 2 years in exact. Do you think next Xcode updates will stop working on 10.13?

      Hello, i suggest getting a newer model if possible as that barely enough to run the latest version, maybe a mac mini 2015. or even a macbook air 2015 is quite good enough. just make sure that the os can be updated to catalina for now
      the minimal specs you should be looking for is
      i5 with (Intel HD Graphics 6000, Intel UHD graphics, or Intel Iris graphics)
      8 gb ram
      250gb ssd if possible

    i get shivers everytime people say "you can do it without a single line of code"!!!
    so, you guys, think navigating through tiny ugly menus EVERYTIME is somehow easier than copy pasting a line of code from a recent file?
    why do people keep complicating their work?
    god save us all =(

    • @CodeWithChris
      @CodeWithChris  Před 4 lety

      To be fair though sometimes copying code can give a lot of errors that could be harder to debug than just to rewriting everything again, but hey its your own style if that works for you and you are comfortable with it then why not :)

    Will swiftui replace uikit? or we can still build apps with uikit

    • @CodeWithChris
      @CodeWithChris  Před 4 lety

      Hello, swiftUI will not replace UIKit, SwiftUI was built to "extend" UIKit so you can build apps on the fly just using basic UIKit elements
      It is not a replacement to UIKit but it will work along side it as an "alternative" way to code (xcode will still be the normal way to build apps)
      Additionally, swiftUI is still in the early stages and is changing rapidly, it will take probably quite a while before it becomes stable and ready for the casual developers so i suggest to still go for the normal route of Swift and xcode for development :)
